The Doge of Venice
The Doge (that means Duke or commander from the latin Dux) was the chief magistrate and the leader of the Venetian Republic (in Italian called Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia). There were 120 Doges during Venetian History.
The Doge’s wife was called Dogaressa but she had no rights, the role of leader of Venice was only for men.
The elections
The Doge was elected by voting frome the city’s arictocrats, and they couldn’t make decision by her own. The Doges could do nothing without Venetian aristocracy, but the arictovracy could do a lot without the Doge!

Ho guys,
I’m really sorry for my absence, I had some things to do with my job and I had to undergo surgery I’ve waited for a long time, but don’t worry I’m good!
I’m planning a trip to Padua and Venice at the end of May, I’ll write something for sure about these amazing city! I’d also like to talk about other places and food, for that reason I want to know if you would like some recipes about Italian plates. Let me know!

Fun Fact 324
Although the Holy See (Vatican City) is the world’s smallest country with a population of only around a thousand people, it’s also one of the most densely populated. With a population density of around 2 thousand people per sq km, it is the world’s 7th most populated region.

Easter in Italy
Italy is a Cristhian country, that means a lot of holidays!
One of the most important one is Easer, in which we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Easter in the Bibile
For the non Cristhian people: you have to know that in the Bible, the period concerned to Easter is the calvary of Christ, that we call Passione di Cristo (Christ’s passion in English). Three days after the crucifixion the Bible tell us that he came back to life, in order to announce that he is the real son of God.
So during this holiday, that lasts two days, we celebrate it and use to eat lamb, the symbol of Christ.
Easter Sweets
The most common sweet you can find in an Italian Easter is the chocolate egg, in which there is often a surprise.
The Easter eggs can be bought at supermarkets but some bakeries also make and decorate it! Every kind of chocolate is used, but for the homemade dark chocolate is better because it resists the weight of decoration, instead of milk one that melts easier.

Chocolate is also used for sweets with lamb, hen or chicken shape because the egg is the symbol of life. Sometimes you can also find a rabbit one, the brand Lindt use to make chocolate bunnies!
Another traditional plate that is not sweet (but it can be, it depends on what you want to put in!) is Pizza di Pasqua (Easter pizza), made with flour, eggs, Pecorino cheese and Parmesan. My mother-in-law also use to make the sweet version in which there’s obviously chocolate.
Pasquetta
The Monday after Easter is called Pasquetta (or Lunedì dell’angelo), in this day we use to meet our friends and make barbeques, go to the city, go to the restaurant... it depends on what we want to do, we’ll have fun for sure.
That’s because there is a figure of speech here:
Natale con i tuoi, Pasqua con chi vuoi.
That means that, if we use to spend Christmas with our family, during Easter we want to have fun with our friends.
Tumblr media
But we can also have misfortune during Easter, that’s because the holiday always falls during the beginning of Springs and often it’s raining!
What do you do during Easter in yout country? Tell me something about!

Libreria Acqua alta, Venezia (High Tide Bookshop, Venice), Veneto, Italy
This unique and amazing bookshop is located in an amazing place, outside the usual tourist flows. Due to the recurring high tide peaks (acqua alta or ”high water” in local dialect, hence the shop’s name), the books are placed above the usual high tide levels, on a gondola, another boat, and even in a bathtub.
Some old books and encyclopedias are placed in the backyard to form a stairway to have a look at the close canal.
