The Bowtie Aquamarine crystals drape over a matrix of beautiful rhombs of potassium feldspar, with a few accompanying prisms of schorl (black tourmaline), displaying the typical three faced crystal termination of this mineral. The specimen is large, measuring 32.5 x 22.9 x 12.8 cm, and was broken in half when found in a pocket in a pegmatite, being glued together at a later date. The join isn’t perfect, because a small amount of aqua recrystallised on the broken surface after whatever geological force that sundered it in twain wrought its work. Original caption:
Here’s new “Outback Trip” story about RideThePlanet team journeys to various mountain regions this year. From February to October we’ve drove around 25 000 km in our Subaru Outback. It took us to Caucasus areas, such as coastal Abkhazia, to Arctic Norway and Alps. This short film has the essence of that trips. Thanks to Subaru for supporting the project for 6th year, giving us best transport to cover the distances for desired destinations, and to move around there freely and safe. This short is published in 4K quality. Enjoy!

Thor’s Well on the Oregon coast is a mesmerizing natural spectacle to behold. Even more so at sunset. We spent over an hour watching the water fill up only to get sucked out again. (OC) [5322x3548]

Sands across the ocean
This really cool image from NASA’s Aqua satellite captures the South Atlantic Ocean from a unique perspective; looking west from orbit over Africa.
The deserts of North Africa regularly send plumes of dust out over the Atlantic. Here a strong wind has driven a huge plume of dust all the way across the Atlantic to the mouth of the Amazon River in South America.
