What’s the rumpus?(The plan): Watch Miller’s Crossing (1990) with the speakeasy. For those who don’t know, Miller’s Crossing is a 1920s gangster movie made by the Coen Bros. It has really lovely cinematography, a beautiful score, lots of hat symbolism (?? you’ll be into it, trust me), and some really good performances (including a brief appearance by a fast talkin’ Steve Buscemi).

When: Saturday, January 30th @8pm EST (Subject to negotiation. Please let me know if this absolutely does not work, we will work it out!!)

How: Acquire a copy of the film (download, stream, rent, buy) join us on chatstep*, and we’ll all press play at the same time and chit chat about it while we watch!

Announcement

Since we want to make sure everyone who wants to be part of this fandom can be welcomed in as easy a way as possible, the mechanics of the Speakeasy Network are getting a little tweak.

The old setup of the blogs page had to be manually updated if a participating blog changed their icon and/or url. I checked in on all the blogs every weekend to see what needed updating, but the sad part was we’ve lost too many blogs over time if someone changed their url and didn’t have a redirect. We don’t want to lose any of you so we’re making a little change.

The redesigned network will be self updating! If you change your url and/or icon it will reflect the change itself! We won’t lose you to broken links or any miscommunication (unless you want to leave of course, though please don’t go we love you!) 

How are we doing this you might ask? We’re using a blogroll code, so the blogs link now goes to a new url, speakeasyblogs. If you have a link somewhere to the old blogs page, that one will no longer update. You can update the link yourself but we’ll also put a redirect on top of the page. 

So what do you have to do if you’re already in the network? Nothing at all! Just relax, knowing that no matter what you do to your blog, you’ll always have a place in the Speakeasy. We’ll follow you all from speakeasyblogs to make sure you’re in.

The biggest change is that instead if submitting your url and icon to join, now you’ll just send a message expressing interest and we’ll follow you from speakeasyblogs. That’s it! The code will take care of the rest.
