Is the blog ending or are all the mods leaving tumblr itself?

Blog activity is being discontinued. Many of our most active mods have left in a very short span of time, for various reason, and I’m afraid we won’t be able to keep up quality posting or properly manage the discord community.

I’ll be keeping the blog alive for as long as Tumblr lets me: all of our posts since the nuke will remain for you guys. Among months of typical content are tutorials and critiques that mods worked for days if not weeks on, and deleting them would be a disservice to everyone.

The discord is, as of today, gone. If you want to talk to the mods you’ll have to seek them out individually. I won’t be giving out the links to anyone else’s main blogs in case they want to be distanced.

It’s been a good run, and I thank you guys for sticking with us through the entire shitshow of the blog. But now’s a good time to go out as strong as possible.

Criticism on this piece?

First of all, I appreciate the snek frend

Now the first thing I notice is that the whole picture looks kind of blurry because you overused the blur tool while highlighting/shading. The blur tool can make shading better when used right, but when used in excess it just makes the whole image look fuzzy. I would also suggest adding more detail to the background, like some patterns in the wood or adding more depth to the shelves behind the snekk.

As for the snake itself, Make sure that the body is curving naturally. The curve of the neck looks abrupt and too square and stiff, try to make the lines more dynamic and flow better (you can do this by using one hand movement for the whole line). Once again you overdid the blur tool in a few areas. You could also try to add some definition for some of the scales, because this would help make the piece look more finished and detailed.

Great, so you’re trying to a new style. That’s cool. But you’re breaking a few basic rules of anatomy that you really shouldn’t be ignoring, even in an exaggerated style. The arms are far too long. Not terrible in shape, but the elbows are basically sitting just above crotch level, meaning the wrists would come down to the knee. It might look fine now because of the way she’s holding her hands, but it’s going to look frightening if she’s ever got them straight. Also I would 100% recommend against drawing legs like that. It would look better having MLP legs on her than the ones at the moment. There is no adherence to the general form of the legs, and quite frankly they look broken. There does not need to be that much of a bend on the front of the shins. They aren’t concave. If you were looking for something sleek, make the front of the leg a single line with some slight curves, then put the drastic bend in the back, following the calf muscle.  The rest is acceptable. If I was going to offer a few more things, I would say avoid making the waist thinner than the head, and generally do more to balance out the features. But deal with the arms and legs first and foremost, I think.
