THE DROW WANDERER
How Imrae reacts to recruiting the other companions
Shadowheart
"Good. A healer in our group will help our chances of survival. I wonder if 'Shadowheart' is a pseudonym."
Astarion
If the leader is held at knifepoint:
Astarion: "And you. Keep your distance. No need for this to get messy." Imrae: "Beyond me to break up a civil greeting. Now let us hear what the nice man wants and then we can get on with our lives." Astarion: "Nice!? You're- Answers. I want answers."
[I believe that in that moment, Astarion is ready for threats and the like, but not for someone who is acting blasé about it because this is Tuesday for them]
After recruiting Astarion:
"Who knew my surface cousins have it in them. Oh, do not give me that look, this was but a formality. The blade was not even poisoned."
Gale
"Signs of slight seepage in that portal, likely from failure to buffer the chronomantic feedback of the Weave. I expected better from a wizard of Waterdeep. Let us that be a lesson about the quality of the arcane academies."
[Translation: "This is, in detail, how badly this other wizard messed up. His shiny diploma means nothing. I beg of you, do not replace me."]
Lae'zel
"She is as brutal as she is direct. I like her. She says it as it is, no mind games, no malice. And who, if not her people, are experts on what to do about these parasites? I say we listen to her advice."
Wyll
"I cannot say that Wyll's fame has reached the frontiers of the Underdark, but he has braved the Hells instead. We would be foolish to reject his aid."
Karlach
"By the gods, the scars on her... They cannot all be battle damage, can they? In any case, she has survived much. Let us make it not be in vain."

THE DROW WANDERER
How the companions react to recruiting Imrae

[During Imrae's introduction, Shadowheart winces from the wound on her hand. A drow near a Selûnite shrine threatens to trigger memories of Viconia.]
"I like this one's way of thinking. Let's make sure he uses these traps against our foes instead of us."

"A drow! Now we're a fashionable adventuring party. Is he more Drizzt, or more Jarlaxle, I wonder..." Alternatively, if the leader is a drow themselves: "Another drow! Now we have a set. Who of you is our Drizzt, and who is our Jarlaxle?"

"Wonderful! A fellow student of the arcane. His glyphs are most peculiar, I hope he is willing to share a secret or two among colleagues."

"This world's elves come in purple now? Chk. He is no gish, but he will have to do." Alternatively, if the leader is a drow themselves: "He is your kin, is he not? Chk. He is no gish, but he will have to do."

"I can't say that I have come across many drow in my travels. Imrae certainly lives up to their rumoured treachery. Let's extend our hands carefully." Alternatively, if the leader is a drow themselves: "I can't say that I have come across many drow before this. Imrae certainly lives up to the rumoured treachery of the stories. But if I trust anyone's judgement to bring him along, it is you."

"They collected us from all over, didn't they? The Hells and the fuckin' Underdark? This is big, soldier. Purple here seems like a real one though. Can't have been easy, all on your own down there."
Prompt: Questgiver If your OC were a camp companion, what would their character quest be? What would it be called and what would players have to do to complete it? What items or buffs might they get for it's completion? How might it change your character?
You were right, @sootycrowbait, Imrae's companion quest needs work and I finally had the time to give it some thought.
Some prelude - BG3 companions represent victims of different types of abuse. Grooming for Gale, religious abuse for Shadowheart, etc.
Imrae is the representation of a victim who left an abusive (foster) family situation and has cut all ties long ago. He is free, but he has not yet found a new social circle.
As a voice reference - if I had free reign over the voice casting, I would cast Gareth David-Llyod (aka Solas from Dragon Age). Let's throw the drow's trustworthiness into question from the moment he opens his mouth, shall we?
THE DROW WANDERER
ACT ONE, PART ONE
The leader can find Imrae in the owlbear cave, where he is carving warding glyphs into the walls or pondering the old Selunite shrine. He has found familiar terrain and considers the owlbear a potentially symbiotic partner, at least short-term. If the leader sends Andrick and Brynna to the cave, one of them might die from a trap he set.
He openly tells the leader that he was wandering alone in the Underdark when he was knocked out by cultists of the Absolute, then he woke up on the nautiloid where he was infected with a mindflayer parasite. An insight check reveals that he is telling the truth.
The first plot beat comes at Waukeen's Rest. If Imrae is in the party when you approach the burning inn, the Flaming Fist will try to arrest the drow to question him, assuming that he was part of the attack on Ulder Ravengard. If he is not in the party, the Florrick or the Fist might ask the leader if they met any strange drow lately.
If the leader hands Imrae to the Fist, either right at Waukeen's rest or if they invite Florrick to camp, the drow's quest ends for the time being as they take him away.
The leader also can defend Imrae, ideally by asking questions and proving to the Fist that the wizard could not have been part of the attack since it just happened, the building is still burning after all. (This grants +10 Approval from Imrae, +5 if you do it with threats instead of logic)
Afterwards, Imrae thanks the leader for their trust, telling them that usually people do not stand up for him. He is not happy about the revelation that there seems to be a heavier drow involvement in all of this than he previously thought.
He tells them that he left his family long ago because of how he was treated. He concedes that it would have been worse if his guardian had been a follower of Lolth, but he recognized with time that what happened to him still was not ok. He has not faced any bounty hunters in decades, so he does not think that this is about him in any way and that the group should be safe. (Telling him that he is safe with them grants another +3 approval)
Potential long rest cutscenes or conversations with him after gaining approval:
The leader might see him shirtless when during a moment of personal hygiene, and can comment on the spell runes on his skin, also on the fact that he looks skinny even for an elf. He will tell them that he has carved his spellbook into his skin so nobody can take it away from him. The leader can also pass a persuasion check to gently make him accept some extra food from them, which gives approval.
In another scene, he would be stargazing, fascinated by the vast nothingness over their heads where in the Underdark it was tons of earth and stone with another world on the surface.
If camping in any sort of ruins or in the wilderness camp, he might be examining the structures, and tell the leader that he used to do this all the time in the Underdark.
If asked how old he is, he will ask the leader the current year, after which he will estimate that he is getting towards the century mark.

Imrae and his companions
𝔸𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕚𝕠𝕟
"My love, my light, my laughter. I will move the heavens and the earth to see him smile. His sharp wit makes any situation bearable. Never before have I felt as seen by another, never have I felt safer under someone's eye. There is none I would rather while away the centuries with."
𝔾𝕒𝕝𝕖
"My own pride and fear stood in the way of a possible friendship. I took offense to his offer of excercising weavecraft together, thinking he was naming himself superior. Our relationship was not a bad one, but I feel that I failed him."
ℍ𝕒𝕝𝕤𝕚𝕟
"I thought him a mentor and potential paternal figure. He saw me in a very different light. I would have rejected his advances even if I had not been happily taken, but he accused me of treating him like a lover when that could not have been farther from the truth. I do not think him a bad person, but our interactions feel fraught to me ever since."
𝕁𝕒𝕙𝕖𝕚𝕣𝕒
"She has healed an old wound in my heart. Never would I have imagined that calling a woman 'ancient' and 'crow' would earn me her respect instead of a beating. I treasure every remaining day on which she graces the Realms with her presence."
𝕂𝕒𝕣𝕝𝕒𝕔𝕙
"She has survived so much. She has clawed and fought for her freedom, and she has my undying respect for it."
𝕃𝕒𝕖'𝕫𝕖𝕝
"I am proud to call her my confidant. Her brazen honesty has always been endearing to me. She has become a formidable leader in the fight for Githyanki freedom, though her departure has left a large hole in my heart."
𝕊𝕙𝕒𝕕𝕠𝕨𝕙𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕥
"She is the woman I call my dear sister. She calls me 'old fool' with a smile and it makes my heart ache with joy. She will always have a home with me, if she so desires. I wish for her life, her future, to be as bright as the night on a full moon."
𝕎𝕪𝕝𝕝
"He has sacrificed much for his city and his father. I cannot begin to understand it, but I know that it makes him a greater hero than I will ever be, and I am glad that the Realms have him."
Made a little relationship chart for your BG3 protagonists and their party. (Two versions, one with and without Minthara.)
Feel free to use, no credit needed, but a link back to the template for others to find would be helpful!

Plants of Baldur's Gate 3
Act One Edition
Many plants are the same as in Rivington. The game does have a limited amount of set dressing plants, which is completely fine since the party never does move around that much. The flora is allowed to be similar.

Maybe an eastern white pine?

Lavender. It is hard to tell if it is true lavender (Lavandula angustfolia), the standard medical herb, or another species.
I think some species of carex grass?

It's likely an agave, dead after blooming. A lot of agaves in the region are in bloom, and I do wonder if it is the druids' influence.

I think it's spotted laurel (Aucuba japonica).

Easy one. Amanita muscaria, the fly agaric. Technically not a plant since fungi are separate but part of the ecosystem nonetheless.
That swamp...
A lot of the plants in the Putrid Bog are just withered and strange but I'll include a few.
Barbed Bulrush seems like a thoroughly magical plant, likely Auntie Ethel's creation. It holds poison apples despite being some mixture of a palm tree and a cattail/bulrush.

See what I said about the plants being in a bad shape? I think this is a thuja occidentalis shrubbery that has turned completely brown. Thuja is a plant that comes from the swamps and bogs of North America, so the placement in the Putrid Bog is fitting.
The Mountain Pass
Again, similar flora to the rest. But it is the first time we find the harvestable berry bushes!

Which, according to the game, are raspberries. But the leaves aren't raspberry leaves. I checked all species I could find.
The leaves look more like they could be from a mastic bush. Its fruit is technically edible though the resin is what it is cultivated for.
The bushes are elsewhere in the game, like the swamp or the crash region, but without berries. So I guess Larian had no time to specifically model a raspberry bush.

Saw these blooms on the climbable knotted roots and they stumped me for a while. I arrived at the conclusion that those are a form of wild roses, the blooms and leaves match up alright.
I am open to other suggestions though.
Again, thank you for your attention, dear reader.

Don't mind if I do.
Your OC as a flower:

Imyaraen is the Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum).
Poppies have long been used as a symbol of sleep, peace, and death.
They are often bred for their medicinal purposes, but let's not forget that opium is a highly potent drug used by those who wish to escape reality for a moment.
Imrae is a seldarine drow of old noble blood, and his guardian raised him to be the consort to another seldarine matriarch - he was supposed to be a source of comfort and relaxation for his intended.
He did not care for that future at all.
So he ran away and almost starved. But as the opium poppy is resilient against droughts, he persisted and survived.
After being caught by the cultists of the Absolute, soon infected with a mindflayer parasite, and grouping with other abductees, he became the leader of the group.
He was the nightwatch, helping the others sleep.
He was the much-needed peacemaker. Getting Wyll to see the truth about Karlach. Calming Lae'zel and Shadowheart during their feuding. Defending Astarion from the rest of the camp.
He was a formidable wizard, bringing death to their opponents with both brute force and guile.
One might say, they became dependent on him. And in a way, he liked that others needed him.
Luckily, this was easier to break than an actual opioid addiction, and his companions spread their proverbial wings and flew on their own by the end.
The one who remained with him, the freed vampire spawn Astarion, did so out of love, not dependence.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for the open tag, @the-red-drow.
I'm also tagging anyone who sees it, has not done it yet but wants to. Or if you have done it and want to do it again with another OC/Tav!
Your OC as a flower:

Deet is the Common Blue Violet
It's a lovely flower, both edible and with some medicinal properties, that feeds many a pollinator; violets can survive in a lot of different environments but can (like Deet) really thrive in forested or wooded areas.
When I sat down to answer this question, I immediately had to search "common flowering weeds" because (save for the invasive kind) what we see as "weeds" are often just inconvenient plants and what is Deet if not an inconvenience?
He's not really, of course, but he was treated as one for most of his childhood and adolescence and Deet's internalized that. He's very quick to make himself useful to the people around him, although he's rather lowkey about it and it often just looks like thoughtfulness. For example, with the BG3 bunch, he quickly falls back into old habits and takes over managing the most menial tasks related to setting up and taking down camp (his responsibility when he began traveling with his father--yes, even at seven years old).
That the common blue violet can be nourishing to people, animals, and pollinators also reminds me a bit of Deet, as his natural instincts are often nurturing (and whereas several of his ingrained instincts and learned apathy are not), more than protective or combative.
I think of Deet as a lovely person who's survived long enough to get a chance to thrive. A patch of violets that finally found a bit of shade.
Thanks for the tag @ranger-jahen!
Ummmm.... I'm not sure who hasn't doesn't this yet, so tagging anyone who sees this and would like to do it~

Agave americana (?) spotted in Baldur's Gate 3! Looks like this one's going to die soon, but not before producing pups!
Agave are usually very pointy and I should be allowed to throw the small ones for 1d6 piecing damage.

Plants of Baldur's Gate 3
Rivington Edition
I love to examine set-dressing plants in video games. So I took some snapshots to see if I could find real-life counterparts to the flora of Rivington.

Coastal Morning Glory (Ipomoea cairica)?
Some beautiful ivy, Hedera helix.

Grapevines (Vitis vinifera)!

Some sheperd's purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris).

I am unsure about this one. Some species of Calydorea perhaps?

A red flowering agave (Agave potrerana)?

It is of the genus lupinus for certain, though even among the species there are so many varieties in gardening. It's probably Lupinus polyphyllus, but my knowledge of plants is very European.
Anyway, I might do this again for the Act I region and the mountain pass. Thank you for your attention, dear reader. ❤

That sounds delightful. I'm in.
Meet Imyaraen, called "Imrae" by himself, the true neutral seldarine drow abjurer.
General
He'd be in the owlbear cave, carving warding glyphs into the walls or pondering the old Selunite shrine. He has found familiar terrain and considers the owlbear a potentially symbiotic partner, at least short-term. If you send Andrick and Brynna to the cave, one of them might die from a trap he set.
Astarion might be delighted, because drow and Drizzt. Gale might assess his spellwork and be curious about his fellow wizard. Shadowheart might appreciate the trickery, especially since it undermines Selunê as a Sharran tactic.
Surprised but delighted at Astarion's dagger tactics, would not even threaten him during the hostage situation. Will afterwards tell Tav/Durge that this is a friendly greeting in the Underdark. As for Gale, he would show no mercy roasting the wizard who got stuck in his own portal (this behaviour stems from the fear of being outdone by "the prodigy Gale of Waterdeep" and losing his niche in the group). Recognizes Karlach as a fellow survivalist.
He is a pragmatist and a tactician. He wants to be cured above all, but he is an empathetic man. He approves actions that might bring you closer to a cure, and he does like clever trickery, especially when it avoids a fight. He approves greatly when abusers and slavers get their comeuppance.
He would never leave, because he only profits from the artifact if he is with the group. BUT. He would start to scheme to take you down from the inside if you start going down an evil route, especially if you side with Minthara. When his betrayal is revealed, the leader might decide to kill him for good.
When drow involvement in the Absolute's cult becomes apparent (like a mention of Minthara, or the drow attack on Waukeen's Rest), he confesses that he has a guardian whom he ran away from and who still might be on the lookout for him, but he has not faced any bounty hunters in decades. A potential scene after gaining some approval is to see him prepare his spells from spell runes that he carved into his own skin. He will explain that this way, nobody can take his spellbook away from him.
He is mostly along for the ride, though he might want to check out a rumour that one of the daughters of his guardian (his "cousins") is part of the Absolute's cult. Refusal to do so won't ruin the leader's relationship with him - he will agree that they have more pressing worries.
"A break sounds wonderful. There is this structure near our camp that I have been aching to examine..." "Let me check the wards, then we can head out."
Minthara, if recruited. To her, he is barely a person. He will hate every second around her. Tav/Durge might need to resolve a conflict where she demands his respect and submission - and he would rather die than bow to her.
The mentioned "cousin" in the cult. Their relationship was not good, but he still pities her. He would not enjoy killing her, if they faced each other at Moonrise in battle.
He will be furious if the leader makes Astarion bite Araj, calling them despicable among other things, and will tell them to choke on the potion they "bought" - a hard detour from his usual pragmatism. He will, in turn, commend them if they support Astarion. He will tell you about the Oblodras if the leader isn't drow themselves. He will recall a personal story about his female "cousins" behaving just like Araj.
Story Specific
He will advise caution, though he is not against the use of more tadpoles if it gives the party an advantage.
Similar to Gale, trying to analyze the situation. Ultimately, he would advise against infernal deals.
He would shrug and admit that he thought Astarion was a dhampir before that night. He approves if you don't shame Astarion, as he relates to being seen as a monster in the dark.
With indifference.
Examining them afterwards - seeing if taking tadpoles causes transformation to happen despite the artifact.
See General, Point 5.
Tiefling Party: He will be in a good mood, sharing a song from the Underdark with Alfira. Goblin Party: He will be by the water in Wyll's spot, hiding from Minthara's sight. He will be drinking, if not consuming something harder to numb his mind.
He will hint at not quite understanding arousal and attraction (as he is asexual) but will wish the leader a pleasant evening.
He will chide the leader for being careless and for their lack of a plan.
He'll say that while he ate some questionable things to survive, he draws the line at that carcass.
He will refuse to do it.
Probably no kidnapping, no.
He's very happy if the 7007 are spared, remarking that "the Underdark might actually become better for it" when they head there. He will be very subdued about an Ascended Astarion, though his nonchalance betrays the plan to watch and maybe take down the vampire lord after the fact.
He would not become a mindflayer himself, but he will thank whoever sacrifices themselves.
He will express concern for their wellbeing, theorizing that the tadpole might be causing the thoughts.
With hidden devastation. He really likes Alfira.
He'll trap them in a warding circle until morning.
Romance
He would be open to romance, with the only requirement being approval. Respecting his asexuality is key.
He is rather passive when it comes to romance, so the leader will need to flirt with him.
He is open to polyamory.
Tiefling party: He will sing for the leader. He is not a bad singer, but not trained either.
One path.
He is a "cut your losses and move on" kind of guy. He will concede that breaking up/choosing someone else is the best choice if there are doubts in his partner's mind about their compatiblitiy.
"Listen. Think. What does the drow miss most about the Underdark?" - Trick question, he does not miss the Underdark/The mysteries which are sleeping down there. "We are all fallible. What cardinal sin could lead to his demise?" - His pride. "Yes, pride comes before a fall, indeed. Swallowing one's pride is the mark of a caring person. Who or what would he do it for?" - [The leader's] wellbeing/the freedom of others.
He will tell the leader to probe the waters and tell him how it went.
He will remind them that open relationships and polyamory only work with communication. He is willing to talk it out if his partner is accountable.
He will decline, telling his partner that it would be overwhelming for him, but he won't be mad if they want to go ahead alone.
He will want to continue to wander and explore the Realms. If his partner is settled down in some fashion, he will try to make a life with them, but go on expeditions and trips often. He's not one for marriage, at least not after that short amount of time, but that does not mean that he is not interested in a relationship for life. He does not want children.
If the leader romances neither him nor Astarion, and the latter refuses the ritual, and both survive til the end, the two might end up in the Underdark together. Also, his role in camp likely would be security - casting wards, setting alarms etc, as well as keeping watch, as he needs less sleep and has great darkvision.
