I have a theory that Yeowool Ha has some sort of trauma/bad experience with men and that's maybe why she said Daniel's body was disgusting. Maybe, in verse, she pretends to be a man because being a woman is too hard for her. She's attractive, has a curvy body. It would make sense if she didn't like men because of something that happened..? Call me crazy, but we might actually have a complex female character here...

Yeowool Ha is definitely interesting. I wonder why she has a blank face? Why do I feel like she has brain damage or smth like Warren used to.
Anyway, I'm starting to think PTJ is just stupid. That mystery person was clearly drawn as a male. This is different to Lua's case because her clothes were looser and more androgynous. Yeowool's physique INSIDE the suit completely changed when she was revealed. She suddenly grows boobs and hips when you see her face.
Is it supposed to be some twisted form of lookism? Am I not seeing something? Is it like you only see her curves when you see she's a woman? Like you're inclined to assume it's a man even when you don't know?
Does the suit have padding to make her look like a man??? Also, her voice?? Is she a freaking voice actress or smth??
Also also!! She's number 3 which means somebody else is number 2!

Question: I was thinking about how much Lookism has changed and how the characters are so different from what they were in the beginning.
For my writing, it would be nice to start differentiating between the early versions of the characters versus the later versions. Or maybe even referring to a specific arc. Is that something you guys would want?
Like early version Eli, skinny Danny, loser Zack, etc...
For someone like me who is having a hard time coming to terms with what the series has become, it's HARD to write and conceptualize for characters, especially when there's so much information to unpack.
It would be easier to just go back to the old days, so is it alright if I start separating them?

Sigh...I can't stop finding things I should have put in my Goo analysis.
Goo is (almost) canonically not from Seoul.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Could be from another district (Gangseo...?). But I take this as him just being from another city. Reminds me of how Taehoon is actually from Busan.
I've also considered the possibility that he might be from another country or spent time in another country. I just...get this feeling that he has not been in Korea his whole life. Could be wrong tho.

I think...I believe this theory more than anything else right now. James Lee, as of right now, IS Charles Choi in some shape or fashion.
I know I said I didn't want to believe it but hear me out. There are TWO James Lees. Everyone knows by now that James fell off HARD after the HFG arc. He dyed his hair, and he completely changed personalities. This is what I'm talking about.
The James from the HFG arc was a totally different person. He was actively planning on killing Charles with his bare hands. He was trying to assist Daniel and tried to prevent him from falling into the grasp of Charles by way of the secret of the two bodies.
And I'm supposed to believe that after all of that, James suddenly turned on Daniel to pursue politics and work with GITAE KIM who he called a bastard and noticeably shut down when Eugene mentioned him???
The new James is cold, emotionless, and selfish. Why the fuck would a congressman work with a fucking popstar?? He wouldn't. But he would work with Charles Choi who built an empire and who is more likely to have ties with the government than anyone else.
I think...the secret of the two bodies that kept James on a leash for years, that he was fighting to be free from...has something to do with a connection between Charles and James.
And Charles Choi's death triggered the switch.
His soul/mind took over James after he died. And maybe James is in another body of his own...or who knows where...maybe still in there somewhere?
I'm not here to defend James. But those are two different fucking people.
You could argue maybe Charles was controlling James during the time he killed Gapryong but that is whole other can of worms. We might end up with 3-4 different James at that point.
I'd like to note that we have no evidence of Gitae's and Charles' relationship. Gitae was not shown to betray Charles the way James was. So them working together is not surprising at all.

the power of yapping forever
One thing I really want to discuss about Lookism is the use of what I like to call "filler scenes" or "filler dialogue". These are scenes that used to show that a certain character is involved with, in the area of, or is aware of another storyline they were not previously a part of. An example of this is Goo being introduced in Busan. The point of doing this is to reveal a character's knowledge or participation while maintaining their previous facade. In other words, forever hinting at their story without telling it.
I had this thought yesterday that I feel like sometimes PTJ doesn't know how to write his own characters. And I was trying to figure out why and I think this is it.
These "filler scenes" with sometimes filler information/dialogue are sometimes just meant to showcase a character rather than actually you know...characterize them. This is not the case for all of them. One FANTASTIC example is the scene where Daniel finds Goo in Samuel's office. We learn more about Goo's story, his sneaky ways, his viciousness, and he meets Daniel all in one. Plus it sets them up to have a potential relationship later (which is currently being picked up).
A bad example (imho) is the scene where we see Goo introduced in Busan. He's just kind of sitting on a car, mentions that he's depressed, goes on about Gun. It's not really anything special. It doesn't reveal anything important about him. It's actually kind of drawn out. The only thing we find out in the end is that he doesn't like Gitae.
Now, I can't talk about this without mentioning the scenes where the characters talk to the camera. I'm talking about those old panels of Gun, Goo, and Tom Lee essentially talking to the reader and revealing important information. Nowadays, if I remember correctly, this is more common with Eugene. These scenes are a great storytelling device and are not inherently bad, but they're not really anything special either.
Another example is all of the times we see Gun and Goo in flashbacks and they're doing something fun together while also revealing important information (think Gun telling Eli's story while fishing). Some of these a little weird imo, but they happened so early on that they were accepted as integral parts of their story.
And then! Sometimes these filler scenes are not even meant to connect a character to anything, they're just meant to show the character doing stuff. Like Sinu and Yeonhui banging in a bus. Out of place. Weird. Not necessary. Stop it PTJ.
After this surface-level investigative endeavor, I have come to the conclusion that these "filler scenes", while they can be great, can also depict the characters in a weird way and that's why sometimes seeing them feels really off. Or it reveals filler information that just is not necessary or...desired really.
My point is that I think, in the process of writing and drawing these filler scenes, PTJ strays from what we already understand the character to be, and it can sometimes come off as inauthentic or out of place. I also think this is why people get tired of reading Lookism. They read for so long and PTJ never gets to the damn point, just gives these filler panels that do nothing. And what happens is, because PTJ doesn't want to tell their story yet, he's stuck writing filler stuff and it comes off like he doesn't know his own characters. Although, maybe this is just me..
Edit: I forgot to add! Another great example is Depressed Gooβ„’ last week. That scene shows that Goo is clearly not taking care of himself (living off of ramen, coke, and soju) and despite his keeping up his appearance (hair and clothes), he's struggling on the inside. Preferring to stay inside and game alone and remaining very irritable as he consistently fails to beat Gun's high score. This is a great characterization that actually relates to the story, even alluding to Goo's likely weakness.

I'm making a prediction that the other King of Incheon is either someone who trained under the same master as Goo..
Or his brother.
Goo gives me little brother vibes and none of y'all can stop me. I always felt like he had a missing sibling and if that sibling is the man in Incheon, the man he had blocked maybe?? Ooooooooohhhhh
Edit: The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Goo being from Incheon would be very on brand and it would make sense if his brother is a king of the land of war or whatever tf they called it. Maybe his brother kicked him out and that’s why he was wandering Seoul looking for money.

As much I as knew Depressed Gooβ„’ was coming. It's still sad to see him locking himself in a...whatever tf that place is. Convenience store? Game room?? Gas station?? And just eating ramen and drinking soju and coke while playing games.
It's so easy to just fall into the pattern of doing nothing but indulging all day and I genuinely hope Goo feels better soon. I hope he doesn't get weaker or anything...
Also whoever messaged him, he clearly had blocked. And for that message to come through when he's already depressed...man give my boy a break..

Ok I was wrong I have more theories for Goo.
I'd like to believe that Goo invented the eclipse move himself and the reason he knows he can stab himself and live is because it's the same place he stabbed his master and he lived. Which is why they specify he was stabbed and not killed. Goo just discovered the perfect move by accident or smth. Or maybe he knew the move already and attacked the master knowing he wouldn't die.
