If we have to have more snow, at least it's beautiful.

When I'm at work, with no internet access, I think of things to blog about, but when I sit in front of the computer, my mind is as blank as the text window.

You can't wait for someone else to make you happy. You have to make yourself happy, but sometimes you can take others along for the ride.

Kristen/Sovngarde, If you see this, Jlist posted this photo on Facebook and it made me think of you, given some of your recent posts. It's kind of a moe version of Snow White.

Hid in the bathroom
The tornado siren went off today. I guess there was some major damage in towns to the SW of me. Hid in the bathroom until the worst of it was over, but fortunately no damage. My heart goes out to those who lost their homes.

Ever notice how the disclaimers "I'm not a racist" or "I don't consider myself to be racist" always seem to precede a racist statement?

Mean People
Some people say that there are more mean people now because they can say things from afar on the Internet. I don't think there are more mean people, I think they've always been mean, but hiding behind the Internet allows them to show their true colors.
Fortunately, there are plenty of nice people out there, too.

My iTunes Favorites List
I always have this strong desire to share the songs on my favorites list. (Anyone have 19 hours to listen?) They really are favorites. I could listen to them over and over and not get tired of them. Sometimes I add a new song, or a rediscovered old gem, and sometimes I take one away to give it a rest, but I like them all. But what reaction would I get if I shared? I might get, "that one's pretty good," "that's not bad." No one would really get the same thing out of my favorites that I do. Why is that?... We like songs because they mean something to us. Sometimes we feel a special connection to the lyrics, or the melody stirs something inside of us or the singer's voice is sensual. But many times a song will evoke a special memory of an event or a happy time in our lives, or even a bittersweet memory of lost love. So we should never expect others to feel exactly the same about a song as we do. Our relationship with music is very complicated and personal.
On a side note: How many people know that the name of the theme song from the movie and TV series MASH is "Suicide is Painless"? There are even lyrics. Neither the song nor I endorse suicide, the theme is that suicide is always there as an option, but the singer chooses not to take that option.

My unconscious mind is having writer's block. My dreams are usually interesting plots (even when they don't make sense in the real world), but lately they've just been a bunch of random images without any attempt to tie them together. I guess it's time to exercise my creative muscles in the waking world so I'll have better dreams.

Women friends
Even though I'm a guy, I've had more women friends than men friends. Most men have a narrow field of interests and lack sensitivity. The men friends I do have are usually more sensitive.
I don't necessarily believe that women in general have a broader range of interests than men, I just think that women have a different and intriguing perspective on things than I do, so I find them fascinating.

People sometimes ask, "What Superhero would you want to be?" or "What super power would you like to have?"
I want to know, "What Anime/Manga character would you like to be?"
I think I would choose Yoshino Takigawa from Blast of Tempest (Zetsuen No Tempest). He's smart and observant, but he doesn't broadcast his thoughts or feelings. And he always tries to do what he feels is the right thing to do, regardless of the difficulties or the consequences to himself.

Love
One of my cousins reposted on Facebook something that inferred Love is only chemistry. I quickly disagreed with him. Love is such a complex thing that does involve chemistry, but it also involves everything about two people's histories, thoughts, dreams, expectations and perceptions. Every loving relationship is a unique thing that all the computers in the world wouldn't be able to calculate. There is unconditional love, unrequited love, love in spite of a person's flaws and even love of people who hurt us. What makes you love someone? Even if you try to put it into words, you won't be able to. Oh, you can cite some reasons or examples of character, but they only scratch the surface. I don't think anyone can put into words, or even fully put the complex series of thoughts and emotions they feel into coherent form.

Anime Central, May 2013. I love Anime Conventions. No one judges you for the color of your skin, your gender, your sexual preferences, your age; whether you're a nerd, a jock, an extrovert or an introvert. Just a bunch of people with a common interest coming together and having a good time. You can participate heavily or keep in the background and enjoy the ever evolving show of human interactivity and Cosplay costumes.
