Spy x Family volume 12 omake chapter translation and new pages

Volume 12 of the SxF manga was just released and it included a hilarious extra chapter about Anya and Becky's zoo visit! Here are my translations (I only have MS Paint so sorry for the poor editing!)

This was such a great extra chapter, not just because Anya and Becky are hilarious as ever, but as usual, even in a humorous situation, Endo manages to slip in a serious theme without disrupting the comedy. This actually reminds me of a story my mom told me where, back when she was a kid in the 50s/60s, she went to a similar zoo exhibit that featured "the most dangerous animal of all," but inside was just a mirror.

I hope Endo had fun drawing lots of different animals! 😁

In addition to the omake chapter, the volume also features a few new illustrations.

Sylvia is on the cover and, keeping in line with Endo's tradition of showcasing the characters' inner/true selves on the inside cover, that's also what we have for her here!

I'm planning to pick up my own copy of the volume this weekend 😀

Out of all the leaked character sheets, Lucifer aggravates me the most. You can just tell that Vivzie would rather paint him as this goofy uwu baby who technically did nothing wrong with the whole “He may be the ruler of this evil place but is actually a wonder filled dreamer who only got sent to hell because he saw the bad in humanity! 🥺”- because she clearly has a bias against Christians and wants her version of heaven to be sickly corrupt so the characters that are ACTUALLY bad look like lambs in comparison. I really wanted Lucifer to be this complex almighty powerful dark lord who while had sick and twisted viewpoints, did genuinely care for his daughter just..not in the right way, but instead he’s this guy who actually WANTS to connect with her and is goofy and misses his lovely wife because Vivzie is afraid of actually making her characters 3 dimensional and seem unlikable or unredeemable in the slightest, because having morally corrupt characters are for wimps! Lucifer is literally the most important character in the show, he’s the king of Hell and the one who basically runs things, so to see him portrayed as Stolas 2.0 as well as see his motivations for coming to hell and rebelling babyfied is so damn annoying, boring, and it’s wasted potential. We have yet to see him in the actual show and really get to know him, but I can already smell how he’ll be characterized and it’s going to be very underwhelming.

*MANGA SPOILERS AHEAD*

There's plenty of evidence in the series that Handler indulges Twilight when it comes to the Forgers - letting...nay, 'ordering' him to go on a family vacation to play with Anya. And reading between the lines, it's because she has a soft spot for the little girl, but also because Sylvia understand that Twilight has gone way past 'too far' in his mission setting up a fake family. She knows the Forgers is a real family, and that Twilight is a fool for not admitting it.

Sylvia has, up to now, conspicuously not pulled Twilight back from getting attached. Which means there's a scenario where WISE actually would allow Twilight to keep his family - it's really only him who constantly tells himself he'd need to abandon his wife, daughter and dog at some point if he continues to be a spy.

And that last bit is key. Whether he chooses to see himself as just a spy, a weapon to mete out violence, no matter the cause, or see himself as a real person deserving of joys and pain that others experience in their sometimes mundane daily life. He still has a long way to get to that point, even as those who know him very well like Sylvia see he is on that journey already.

Damn, I knew this show wasn't gonna live up to my expectations but this just hits hard. I thought Charlie's dad LUCIFER was gonna be this intimidating villain that loomed over charlie like in this picture. That he was gonna find ways to stop charlie's quest for demon redemption by manipulating her and the whole ring. Maybe be a "puppet master" of sorts but overall just being a good antagonist. To know they are not going for something like this is disappointing. But hey being a GOOFY DAD gets more fanart right?

Still not over the idea that Lucifer is now just this uwu goofy sad guy who wants his daughter and wife back and is mopey that everyone in hell is a jerk. It’s such a weird and hugely underwhelming writing decision for the character, especially since the pilot indicated that he was this sinister person who wasn’t really a good father and saw Charlie as a failure, like…what happened to this?

Charlie questions why she’s always been a failure, and then later says “I think dad was right about me”-, indicating that the two didn’t have a good relationship, and then the dialogue leaks come along and it’s now just “Charlie I love you so much I wanna reconcile with you but I don’t know how because I’m GOOFY lol, my wife hates me!”- and it feels like the writing for a kids show. I can just see the show trying to paint Charlie in the wrong or something simply because her father is “trying” and loves her deep down. Please I hope it won’t be Stolas and Octavia all over again. And I understand that Viv has described Lucifer as “goofy” even before these leaks came out, but that doesn’t really excuse the indications she gave in the pilot.

Wow, ya'll are really reaching in this post aren't ya'll. I'm really glad chapter 132 came out because god damn what are ya'll talking about.

Does anyone else feel like the author is slowly killing the Zenyuki ship? I aint complaining as a hardcore Obiyuki fan, despite having accepted the inevitability of Zenyuki for years. However the latest chapters have me thinking especially the last one. Shirayuki hardly seems to be as excited to see Zen as she used to be whenever he showed up unexpectedly. She doesn't hug him back, and especially Zens last sentence there; "Were your eyes open?". Idk bout you guys but when a person kisses someone they are in love with, the eyes close. Eyes open is such a symbol of lack of feelings present. Seems reeeaaal suss.
