Instead of saying [common, perfectly serviceable word] when you write, why not try one of the following synonyms?

[wildly differing connotation]

[five syllables where one will do]

[tonally dissonant formalism]

[misunderstood medical term]

[word that hasn’t been in regular use since the 1700s]

[actual typo]

The sides are stickily coagulating together, clear slimy liquid oozing around it. Healing. 

It was a house, yet not quite. Four walls meant to resemble a home of comfort and thyme, strawberries and lime. Suffocatingly sweet, dripping of exasperation. Skin on skin contact, it sticks close-by. A hug. The walls are gushy. I don't know where they end nor where I begin. Their formation is so desperately simple, so piercingly human. Swallowing you whole, safely guiding you back to where you belong.

Can I be honest?

You can pry my purple prose out of my cold, dead hands. I will only cut down on prose if I need to be more concise, but I WILL go on for several paragraphs if that's what I feel like and you WILL LIKE IT.

I come on this website and I give advice like "be patient with yourself <3 no one has to be a perfect writer!" and then I turn around and feel immensely disappointed when I am also not a perfect writer

favorite color: yellow :))))) all shades. green too but only deep/acidy greens. not too keen on the muddy shades

currently watching: i've been on a movie binge. most recent i watched was quadrophenia! really cool insight into british mod/rocker culture from the 70's.

spicy/savoury/sweet: savoury at all times but love spicy stuff too

relationship status: single and very content with that

current obsession: crocheting. i've been on a mad one and made so much crap that i keep giving out to anyone who will take it

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

not to be dramatic but i don't think i'll ever love anything or anyone the way i love writing. my best friend my raison d'etre my comfort blanket my constant challenge my joy my sorrow it all culminates in the form of the words i write. i love it with everything i have and yes sometimes it frustrates me but in the same vein of loving being hard work i can't ever imagine myself showing up for any other the way i do for writing. constantly returning to the keyboard to try again, trying to make it work.

This poll centers around a hard question to answer- but one I've been thinking about for a long time.

Why do we write?

AO3 Comments are SO SO SOOOOOOO important because you can only leave Kudos ONCE. You add to the hit count ONCE (every 24 hours).

So whenever someone updates their fic, the ONLY way an author knows who their regular readers are is if they comment on each chapter. And we WANT to know who's still reading.

Believe it or not, some of us think about the name that pops up constantly in the comments and go "omg I can't wait to see what they think of THIS SPECIFIC SCENE cuz I KNOW they'll say something about it!!!"
