"Something Old, Something New" is interesting, but I prefer N and Tessa as siblings, like twins or the older sister and younger brother stuff, you know? Soulmates don't need to be romantic. They're very cute, btw.

Platonic soulmates for the win!! It's one of my favoritest dynamics out there, and I love writing it! I don't do it nearly enough, lol.

Kinda wondering, how do you see Cyn and Tessa's relationship, or more specifically the formers opinion of the latter (both pre-gala and currently) in feathers? Like how does cyn's canon obsession with Tessa (even without the skinsuit, she modeled her appearance after her) fit into it?

Also we know that Cyn cares for N in an extremely toxic way, was that ever the case for Tessa or nah? And if not does she just hate her for stealing N away or is there something more going on?

Specifically in hope is the thing with (bladed) feathers:

Pre-gala, this Cyn carried a deep resentment for humanity, and obtaining the Solver gave her the means to do something about that resentment. Tessa was a means to an end after rescuing Cyn from the drone dump, tho I'd say Cyn did have some genuinely good moments with Tessa and the others, primarily N.

But the time between her rescue and the gala was filler. Nothing Tessa did ever could've made Cyn decide not to go through with the massacre. At the same time, it wasn't personal. Cyn would have said she liked Tessa pre-gala. But liking someone, to Cyn, doesn't equate granting them mercy or wanting them to be safe or happy.

And in regard to Cyn mimicking Tessa's appearance, I've never been sure if the drones chose their appearances or if Tessa did (which makes somewhat more sense to me). Either way, it doesn't have any significant deeper meaning in this AU. I think all it could've been was Tessa asking if Cyn had a preference for hairstyle and Cyn having no idea how to answer so she just says, "...I like yours."

Wanting Tessa as a skin-suit was originally a combo of liking Tessa enough to want to keep part of her and wanting to use Tessa's corpse as further psychological warfare against N, V, and J.

Currently, Cyn sees Tessa as an obstacle and a glitch in the midst of her otherwise perfect plan. Half the point of this fic is playing with the what-if of "Tessa went to get N instead of confronting Cyn," so we the audience know that Cyn is, objectively, correct. If Tessa had played Cyn's game the way Cyn wanted, everything would've gone exactly to plan (up to canon, of course). So now it's kinda personal.

Cyn also knows that N's not going to "come home" on his own, and Tessa's at the core of that. So long as Tessa is alive, N has a reason to resist Cyn. Killing Tessa would pretty effectively break N, as she's the only one he has left right now. (Obviously, the situation is more complicated than that, but as has been mentioned, Cyn's a lil tunnel-visioned and also an unreliable narrator, even to herself sometimes.)

At the heart of it, I think it's important to point out that Cyn's hatred of Tessa isn't fully logical. General resentment towards humanity, of which Tessa is a member, has mixed with petty annoyance at her plans being disrupted and anger that Tessa seems to be the main thing standing between Cyn and N.

Plus, Tessa (and N) are entirely denying Cyn something she wants. And that smarts. As Moonscribe3 on ao3 pointed out: "You know, thinking about the fact that Cyn hasn't been told "no" by anyone except N (and Tessa) really adds a level to her anger that is really satisfying. No can be such a powerful word, not just for the one saying it but also to the one being denied. You aren't all powerful."

And as we're going to see in hope's next chapter (a short interlude with Cyn), she has some complicated feelings about power.

I think I've mostly answered the last questions somewhere in this mess of a response, but just to be sure: I do not have Cyn caring for Tessa at any point to the same degree as she cares about N. Tessa "stealing" N plays a huge role in Cyn's hatred, but hopefully I explained the other reasons well enough!

In Bring Him Back, I kinda wanted to throw a shoe at V. Uzi will go mad once she finds out what that disassembler did. And maybe the rest of the outpost will give their support, since N is very dear to everyone.

That was definitely the most common sentiment after this last chapter, lol! Chapter 5 is shaping up to be predominantly angst with a small dash of silliness >:) Plot stuff should start moving relatively quickly now that the setup is done.

Ello. Just wanted to ask what you thought of this concept:

Cyn has never liked humans, and that extends to a fundamental level. Everything about the design is ridiculous - to their limbs, their constant, lengthy rest and fueling periods, and their physical weaknesses. However, she must admit some aspects of the form are rather adequate. Adrenaline is a powerful thing. Perhaps she could make a few… improvements of her own design, as she did with the Murder Drones.

And who better a canvas for this future work of art than one Tessa James Elliot?

Or, Cyn turns Tessa into another one of her murder pets. Everyone else has a bad time.

Ooooh!! I like it a lot! Whether it's full drone!Tessa in a new kind of body or a cyborg!Tessa, that sounds super interesting! Leaning into Cyn's experimenting side and taking it to a whole new level would be all kinds of messed up and angsty! (<- said gleefully)

Since these asks lately have been on the topic of shipping, I have to ask what you think of Polychrome? (J x V x N x Tessa)

It’s a ship that exists only within my head and maybe in someone else’s mind but I really really love it despite the lack of content. Id love to see what you think of it!

I see the vision!! My immediate impression is very "four of us against the world." I can totally see it starting out as Jessa and eNVy but then they do double date stuff, because like, who else are they all gonna hang out with. Tessa sitting down one day and going, huh. HUH.

Or something more like, the lines of friendship start to blur because they're all each other has and sure, the cuddle puddles started out totally platonic but how many times can any of them wake up an inch away from someone else's face and sleepily think pretty before they start to have Thoughts . And the shift is so gradual that suddenly they all realize they've been holding hands completely interchangeably between all four of them and the cheek-forehead-shoulder-crown kisses are innumerable, and the feelings aren't completely platonic anymore.

In conclusion: I think it sounds adorable!! Good ship! I could totally write this!

Nouisa is probably one of the few ships I'd give a hard no on writing, I'm afraid.

The Elliotts being turned into DDs is a banger of an idea, tho! I'd do it as them being forced to obey Cyn, as probably some of the most psychologically torturous karma imaginable.

Which got me wondering what’s your take/view on some other ships in MD and which, if any, might show up in future stories/one-shots:

Vizzy (V x Lizzy)

Honestly one of the cutest “canon-adjacent” ships. V’s hardened edge and Lizzy’s bratty, self-centered and mean girl charm balance in such a funny but genuinely sweet way.

Vuzi (V x Uzi)

Delicious tension. Enemies-to-trauma-bonding-to-something-more energy.

Juzi (J x Uzi)

A rarer pair, but very loaded. Both have trauma, leadership complexes, and are driven by guilt/pride/insecurities in different ways.

CodeGold (N x J)

It's not about “abuser x victim,” it’s about the possibility of change.

A story about redemption, emotional healing, and second chances that aren’t handed out for free, but built through empathy, patience, and mutual growth. Instead of falling into a cycle of hate, punishment, and regret, CodeGold asks a harder question: What if someone who has done harm can change? Not because they’re forced to, but because someone believes in them when no one else will.

Oilrose (J x V)

Snarky girlbosses with trauma and unresolved feelings? Do I even have to say anything else...

Full Company (N x V x J x Uzi)

Ooooh, fun question!!

(before I jump in, I do just want to make a quick note that whether or not I personally ship something isn't a one-to-one indicator of whether or not I'd write it. canon J/N/V isn't a personal ship of mine, but I was interested in exploring the dynamics, so I wrote it as an AU. same with the upcoming Nessa fic, I don't personally ship N and Tessa, but that doesn't mean I refuse to write it)

Vizzy: I like it well enough! their interactions in the show were fun and cute in their own way! it's unlikely to make a real appearance in my fics outside of background mentions (it's extremely subtly implied in Mission Accomplished, actually) because I have zero confidence in writing Lizzy, lol, and she admittedly doesn't super interest me as a character I'd want to explore

Vuzi: I love them together, but I have to admit, I much prefer when it's full Envuzi. their interactions are so much fun to write because of how sharply they can tease each other without getting offended, and i think their vibes mesh really well! unless you count their scenes where N isn't present and they get some one-on-one time, it's almost certainly not something we'll see in my fics unless it's by request

Juzi: this one's a miss for me. I think she and J could have a really interesting platonic relationship post-canon or even during canon if some things were changed, but I don't personally feel a spark between them that could make them something more. I'm not a huge fan of enemies to lovers, tbh, and J hits "enemy" to me waaay more than N or V do

CodeGold: I have to admit that it is really hard for me to look past the abuse for this one. I know the situation is complicated, but I also can't ignore that if the manor flashbacks are accurate, then J has always been a bully to some extent. but at the same time, that question of change and growth applies to all three of them, and the series makes a pretty big point of the workers accepting N and V with almost no pushback or hard feelings*, so I would never say that J doesn't deserve her own chance. at the heart of it, no, I don't ship them, and if I ever did write them within the context of canon, I'm not sure I could do it outside of a serious slow burn with a ton of deep, emotional conversations between them. I personally prefer N and J's relationship to be a weird friendship where they are simultaneously very close and frenemies of a sort (like in hope)

*not counting Doll, lol

Oilrose: their 1v1 in ep 8 is just. So Much. the underlying hurt. the anger. there is something so Unresolved between them. I think I kinda ship them but only in specific circumstances. in canon context, post-gala and pre-canon, I could easily see them having Something. they are both hurting, both broken, neither able to be with their first choice, and it's not comforting exactly, what they have, it might not even be healthy, but it's better than nothing. ep 8 dooms them. I'm unlikely to write them together as anything other than angsty OR very canon-diverged

Full Company: not my first choice, but has a certain interesting potential that means I would be willing to give this one a go to see how I vibe with it. I otherwise cannot say for sure if I ship them like this or not at present. a lot of my background issues with these same characters put in varying duos would be resolved in this context

GOSH yes that's perfect XD the visual is so clear in my head, Godzilla's doing his rumbling chuckle thing, Mark is having to yell from the top of Castle Bravo, that's how i'm seeing it, Maddie sitting on G's head down in the water, and the rest of the base is trying not to break down in helpless laughter. someone (almost certainly Rick) gets pictures and it becomes an on-base meme for months

Just thought about this AU last night what if after godzilla kills Ghidorah Mothra lands near him prompting Godzilla to nuzzle her but he begins to smell a humans scent emanating on Mothra he’s a little concerned until Mothra reveals to be holding Madison who seems to be unconscious with her clothes, soaked from Ghidorah’s storm & an injury on her forehead with tiny specs of blood Godzilla slowly, nuzzles Madison leaving him to wonder how she ended up in this mess in the first place

it is always a good time to put Maddie on Mothra's back, lol, i'm a big fan of that one

Godzilla's just like "who's the human, how did she get up there, and why did you adopt her without me :/"
