the fact that merlin kills arthur’s family members (uther aggravaine morgause morgana) because they keep dissapointing him is kind of insane to me

I’ve wrote something similar to this (-hunith) but it’s part of a bigger fix it au and in a dialogue format and the ending is kinda a cliffhanger. You can check it here if you’re interested ^^ my personal headcanon is that arthur is bad at archery and he always uses his sword to cover that up 😭

feeding into my merlin can do archery bs: i never knew this pic existed and my mind just- exploded. I mean imagine guys merlin doing archery IMAGINE IMAGINEEEE
i also made this a while back because i was delusional ⬇️⬇️ (not accurate posture)

because the plot
Seriously, though:
How could Morgana see Merlin walking around in Camelot, healthy as ever, after she had left him to die in the woods, chained up with magic chains and surrounded by gigantic murderous scorpions and not assume he has magic himself on the spot??
She went to magic boot camp and came back a classist, absolutely convinced a lowly servant couldn’t have magic.

I really like the fact that Merlin doesn’t flip the sword out of Odin’s hand or make it burn him or create a distraction or something, instead he just flips the f out. He sees Arthur about to get killed and he chooses to go full on BAMF!Merlin and straight up opens the earth underneath their feet.
Merlin is truly terrifying when he wants to be.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Sir Leon the Long Suffering is one of the best tags ever invented.

I recently watched the Merlin witchfinder episode and you know what's heartbreaking??
The fact that he used his magic for something so innocent, so childlike. Yes, he uses it for chores but the one time he uses it just because, just because he has it and it's enchanting and it's magical and that nickel of happiness he gives himself turns into the nightmare of Gaius almost being killed for it. It drives in just how there really is no space for magic, for Merlin in Camelot because no matter what he does with his gift, he will always always be the enemy.

I have nothing to hide, he says but his entire existence is an unending game of hide and seek.

I think the downright most horrific and brutal detail in the show is that Kilgharrah actually used Merlin to make sure Arthur's death happened with the pretence of protecting him

Merlin season 1 observation, part 2
• Merlin was able to heal by using herbs and magic, and by puting the mix of herb next to the person and using a spell. After that the bag started glowing.
• People can enhance potions/poison with spells. Normal potion + spell = stronger effect (if poison, requires Healing potion enhanced with magic as well).
This may be useful to write healing magic.
• Merlin decided that Arthur life was more important than his since chapter 2 or 3. The trope of "I will die for him, no matter the consequence" It's cannon, and It's not exaggerated.
In chapter one Merlin put Arthur away from the arrow trajectory, after that he's willing to be the one to take the bullet. That bloody warlock had nothing in his head.
• Morgana's destiny was killing Uther, Merlin's was protecting Arthur, Moldred's was killing Arthur, and Arthur's was creating Albion (a nation with magic). Everything else in the middle was people's fault, and their desire to protect someone.
• Uther told Arthur that he should get used to people giving their life for him. That sickest Arthur since day 1.
• Merlin sees no point in hunting as a sport. He's ok with hunting to eat.
• Merlin was told "if it wasn't by your magic you should be dead" "that should have killed you" al leat twice.
• Merlin never told Gaius that he heard the dragon, or that he took advice from him multiple times.
• Merlin did learn a lot of spells in season 1. He learns fast.
• His practice was repeating the spell until it worked.
And I think that all for now.
Hope this helps someone.
Have a nice day!

Question: in Merlin, do you think that Lancelot sacrificed himself because he promised Gwen he’d look after Arthur or because he knew Merlin was planning to sacrifice himself?
