I have seen very few takes about Utena’s white saviourism. Like weather or not it was the intent of the creators I think we should be doing analysis of the racial dynamics in Utena. Anthy is Black/Brown. And the struggles she faces in her relationship w Utena and the rest of the world are faced by many WLW of colour. They’re real.

We all know Utena was initially fighting the duels and trying to save Anthy because that is what princes do. It was to fuel her own ego and gender euphoria. It’s white savioirism. It’s “I can save this ferishized objectified woc from this system”

And Utena’s chacrcter development is realising the inherent toxicity in the kind of masculinity she has been looking up to. The Princehood. A Colonial ideal dependent on the ownership and subjugation of Anthy, of all black and brown women.
