...take a guess what inspired this particular track. Anyways, more music on the way, been super busy lately, tons of tracks in the backlog. Hope to share some of them with y’all soon!

Inspired(???) by the following Youtube Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIxY_Y9TGWI I was genuinely wondering what it would be like to try writing “Nothing Music.” That curiosity has now been sated. I no longer wish to write in this absolutely soul-crushing manner.
Regardless uh... thanks for listening? Also I’m sorry

This one is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin - it’s music to explore to, with a little bit of theming that could be tied in with other tracks. Admittedly, I’ve been kinda stuck on certain sounds for these larger pieces, but I’m just happy that they’ve all seemed to have turned out as well as they have! As always, comments and critiques are welcome. Thanks for listening!

It’s chiptune, it’s fun, and it works! As before, I’ll take it. Keep pushing to the finish line, as it were!
As always, comments and critiques are welcome. Thanks for listening!

I’ll be honest, I finished this, and I found that I didn’t have a lot to say about it. It’s boss battle music, and it’s fun boss battle music. And it’s a loop that’s slightly longer than 2 minutes, which I’ve slowly gotten better at making. I’ll take that. As always, comments and critiques are welcome. Thanks for listening!

No New Music Today
I think this seems like a good new rhythm - depending on how things go I might go down to less posts per week, but I’m definitely getting a good feeling for just how much music I’m making these days. 6 new pieces of music per week is... quite a lot, it turns out. Admittedly, that also opens up possibilities like doing 6 pieces with the same melody... HMMM... there are some interesting thoughts to be mined here...

Yet another experiment in 7/8 because I just can’t seem to get it out of my head for some reason. Also more tricks with me getting used to the new DAW. I didn’t want to post another fragment today, but unfortunately time has kind of run out. The frustrating thing is that I’m about 80% done with a whole bunch of longer tracks, and it’s just the last 20% of each that seems to be eluding me. Hopefully, those tracks will bear fruit by next post. Until then though, it’s back to the grindstone for me.

Nothing like chiptune to experiment with all sorts of different things. Honestly, now that I’m exploring different scales beyond the minor / Major stuff, it’s amazing how much they influence the feeling of melodies. It helps that I really like the quasi-mystical feel that lydian seems to have, at least for me. Short and sweet this time, but there’s a good chance that this one will get built out into something bigger in the future.
As usual, comments and critiques are greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening!

Commissioned by Myr - @Yiffcat on Twitter Well, this was a fine how’dya do. One of the group chats I was in was joking about having character leitmotifs for their D&D group... and I decided to take that completely seriously. I gave a few people their snippets, and a few of them wanted to see these built up into full character themes! SO THAT WAS COOL. Anyway, this first theme comes courtesy of a Grave Cleric who... well lets just say her allegiances have shifted a lot since I started writing this theme. Still, I think it fits her rather well, and there’s a nice instability to the bass drone that really sticks with me. Plus making something vaguely threatening and unsettling is a real treat. Thanks for listening!

An absolutely minuscule fragment coming out of the new DAW. It is honestly so much easier to write in irregular time signatures in that program. Plus it’s always a treat to find some weird sounding chords and such. Getting used to the controls and the layout is tricky, but I’m managing. Ideally the next run of tests will be with live recording, though I’m not 100% confident in my abilities there. Still, this is significant progress as far as I’m concerned.
As usual, comments and critiques are always appreciated. Thanks for listening!

Possible Volume Warning? ...yeah, the inspiration for this particular one is pretty obvious. Honestly though, this was a lot of fun. One of my first attempts really playing with filter automation and really getting the B section working in the loop. Not to mention just having a lot more fun with sample-slicing and drumming patterns. This is another one that I’m actually pretty proud of I’ll be honest, even though it gets a little muddy at some points. I will say that it was a pain in the ass to mix, and it always felt like my right ear was unbalanced for the longest time with this song. I still think the mixing could use some work, but I’ll gladly call this finished for now. As usual, comments and critiques are always appreciated. Thanks for listening!

What really sucks about this is that I’m absolutely loving the vibe that this fragment has, but I just have no idea where it’s going to go, or how it’s going to transform. Until then though, this was a good experiment in irregular time, namely 7/8. I do love how that time can feel either super unstable or just hypnotic, all depending on how it’s used. Still, sending this one up in the hopes that I’ll be able to build it out someday. As usual, comments and critiques are always appreciated. Thanks for listening!

Taking a break for the day, and giving you all a break from the stream of new music. At this point, I’ve actually built up a bit of a back-log now, which is... honestly amazing to me. I never thought I’d actually be ahead of the curve. I’m also starting to learn a new music program as well, so expect some updates on how that learning process is going. For references sake, I’m moving from FL Studio to Studio One, mostly because I’m finally rubbing up against the more... annoying bits of FL Studio’s workflow. And honestly, I want to step up my game, learn how to make proper mixing and proper production that won’t blow everyone’s headphones out. If any of y’all on Tumblr have some tips and such, comments and critiques are always appreciated. Expect a few more shorter pieces from the new program, alongside some longer stuff that’s still being made in FL Studio. It may be a little less powerful, but it’s still the program I know the best right now.

Hooray! An actual song for once! Honestly, I’m rather pleased with how this one came out, despite how short of a loop it is. Everything flows together, and the loop is actually really well maintained. A friend of mine said that this kind of sounds like the music you would hear in a shop, and I’m inclined to agree. There’s something almost a little sci-fi to how this piece feels. I’m not sure I can put it into words. Still, I’d call this little experiment to be an absolutely roaring success. As usual, comments and critiques are always appreciated. Thanks for listening!

Another fragment, this time an experiment with some different string textures, with a smidge of a minimalist air. Admittedly, calling this minimalist is like calling a tricycle a mode of urban transport, but I still kind of like how the bass came out in this one. I’ve been doing more experimenting and such, so there will probably be a lot more fragments. Hopefully, there will be more actual full pieces too. Eventually. As usual, comments and critiques are always appreciated. Thanks for listening!

A really simple sketch using just some chiptune and a basic bass instrument. This was originally completed in August of 2019, and I still kinda like it, despite how utterly weird it is. I see it as kind of a goofy, plodding world map theme, like you’d find in a weird and goofy retro game. Or maybe just a general theme for nonsensical meandering. As usual, comments and critiques are always appreciated. Thanks for listening!

It’s a fragment of jazzy things! Kinda! I still have no idea where to take this or what to do with it. It’s just kind of a weird piece. But at least it has a pretty skeezy saxophone sound in it, which seems to fit the mood just fine. I’m pretty sure the walking piano bass-line was inspired by examining and deconstructing a song I’d heard earlier that day. I know that this isn’t really jazz, but goooosh if it wasn’t fun to do something really cliche-sounding. As usual, comments and critiques are always appreciated. Thanks for listening!
