I was putting so much pressure on myself to make a grand gesture for today with art or something but struggled and eventually gave up and came to the conclusion that it's okay to just say that I appreciate the community so much.

OFMD is very important to me and thank you for being part of my community. It healed something in me.

Can we appreciate what an actual badass Stede Bonnet is that he gets drawn into a duel with someone far more skilled than him, defends himself so well that he actually has the opportunity to kill his opponent (but doesn’t take it), and then thinks fast enough, after having been hit and slashed, to use a lesson Ed taught him AND his knowledge of the ship’s construction to 1) get run through and survive and 2) disarm his opponent and win the duel in the process?

Like, what he does right there, the speed of response? That's skill and intuition. He waits to move so that he can take the sword where it will do the least damage and depends on it sticking in the mast behind him. He doesn't telegraph his intention at all.

(This is also, BTW, indicative of what a quick learner Stede is and also that Ed has actually taught him well. We know that they've been training together before the stabbing scene, and Stede has absorbed enough knowledge to be able to hold his own.)
