More facts about Alicia and Jacob

I want to share them more, but am dealing with art block rn - so here's some more info about my OCs, Alicia and Jacob!

Both

They’re both autistic. It’s more outwardly noticeable with Jacob, who struggles to read people and social situations, and sometimes comes across as annoyed when he doesn’t mean to. Alicia’s able to mask it better, but still has her quirks.

Mischievous little buggers. They love working together to prank people, or saying things to rile people up a bit (all in good fun, of course).

When they were younger, they were also chaotic toward each other sometimes. One time, they had a fight where Alicia bit Jacob so hard that he started bleeding (he still has little teeth-shaped scars on his arm). Another time, Jacob tried to cut off one of her pigtails with blunt scissors, because she stole his juice box.

Despite this, Alicia’s always been a bit protective over Jacob, since she knew that other kids didn’t understand or like him, and hated when they bullied him over it. Even though he started closing himself off more a few years before Violet, she still gets wary of people who seem to want to harm him.

Since they’re from Hulbury, they have noticeable Scouse accents, and use a lot of the slang/phrases. They find it hilarious when the poor, innocent Paldeans/Unovans around them have no clue what they’re saying.

Neither of them seek out the Treasures of Ruin. Alicia's already got her hands full with trying to become a Champion, looking for Titans, and disbanding Team Star; Jacob is doing two of these, and has also sworn to never get involved with Legendaries again, out of guilt for how it turned out in Kitakami. This spot may possibly be filled by a new OC, if I develop them to a point I'm happy with... 👀

Alicia

She’s left-handed. Sometimes she likes to take advantage of this by mirroring a small action she knows Jacob is about to do, to either annoy him, or freak someone else out.

She’s a fan of Roxie and Piers’ music. She had hoped that her Zigzagoon would eventually become an Obstagoon, like the one Piers has, but the little bugger never wanted to evolve.

She has sensory issues regarding food, which makes her a fairly picky eater. She can’t handle strong flavours, but also has trouble stomaching blander foods.

Her favourite fruit is strawberries. She likes them both as a light snack, and in desserts or smoothies (the latter especially if it also has banana). She thinks there’s no way to go wrong with them.

Although she generally likes to be the centre of attention, she despises journalists/the press, because of how invasive they were after she dropped out of the Galar League due to her parents' death (she had just defeated the 6th gym, so it was a fairly big story for news about the League).

She's a people-pleaser. She likes making people happy, so she really goes out of her way to help them, and to always be someone capable of doing so. While it's often how she makes friends, she sometimes gets overwhelmed with trying to do so many things at once. Arven eventually had to tell her that, while it's nice that she wants to solve everthing quickly, she needs to slow down to look after herself sometimes, too.

The fact that she does some things that help her to manage her emotions - such as writing about them in a journal, or letting them out through drumming or singing - is part of the reason she's more well-adjusted than Jacob, who bottles his feelings up.

She can be prone to black-and-white thinking. Her brutal attitude toward people she feels wronged by/who wrong her loved ones comes from seeing anyone who hurts them as being completely against them, without thinking about the context. The exception is when it's clear that someone is acting against their own will, such as with Turo's AI copy.

Alicia is the one to meet Turo at Crystal Lake, and swap the white book for the violet one. She doesn't take the implications of it very well. :)

Jacob

He has a bit of an odd way of talking. He tends to keep his sentences as short as possible, to the point that it can be difficult to understand what he’s trying to say at first. He often says single words at first before being asked to clarify, doesn’t use many filler words, and he tends to drop the “I” in “I” statements.

He’s always doing something with his hands, whether it be using a fidget toy, picking at his nails, sewing, crafting, or just tapping a table in front of him. When he and Kieran eventually become a couple, he also tends to absentmindedly stroke Kieran’s back, arm or hair while cuddling.

MASSIVE sensory seeker, especially with food. He likes a lot of strong flavours, many of which he’ll happily mix and match despite them definitely not going together. He’ll eat a lot of different foods, as long as they’re not too mild.

On that note: his favourite fruit is lemons. He loves how sour they are. He can bite into one like an apple and not even wince. This terrifies everyone who knows him.

He has some mild hoarding tendencies, of the “I’ll definitely use this someday, so I should save it” variety. His rooms at home and at Uva Academy appear quite neat, because he organises his items well - but once you get past the presentation, there’s still a lot of pointless crap on his desk, shelf, and in boxes against the walls.

He and Carmine really didn’t take to each other at first, because she found him odd on top of being an outsider, while Jacob found her obnoxious, especially when he was trying to get help for a sick child in his group. By the end of the school trip, they warmed up to each other considerably, although they still like to wind each other up.

He's claustrophobic. He doesn't remember if there was a specific cause for it, but being in a small space with no apparent escape terrifies him enough that, when he goes dumpster diving, he needs someone he trusts with him, so he can be certain that he'll get out if he gets stuck somewhere.

Despite his aforementioned desire to not get involved with Legendaries after having caught Ogerpon, he ends up being the one to catch Terapagos. It likes to sit on his head, because of how fluffy his hair is.

Through the power of therapy and friendship, he's noticably more content with himself and open to others by the time he's chosen to go to Blueberry Academy - but since the school trip is still a sore spot for him, he's put off at the idea of going. This leads to Directors Clavell and Cyrano agreeing to let Alicia go with him.

Whenever I see people act like Kieran felt nothing but a pure, burning hatred for the MC throughout Indigo Disk, I have to wonder if they skipped over this line:

He literally only spent a couple days around the player in Kitakami, so him saying he looked up to them "for so long" suggested to me that, despite resenting them a LOT after what happened there, he never really stopped admiring them. His feelings toward them were a lot more complicated than just plain hatred.

Since some people are theorising that Corbeau could be related to Carmine and Kieran (possibly even their dad), there's a couple of possible hints I just remembered, as someone who is still hyperfixated on SV and likes to overthink character dialogue in media:

There's a couple of moments in The Teal Mask where Carmine mentions wanting you to be her grunt ("I'll let you into town, but only if you become one of my grunts and do every little thing I-"), or briefly calls you her grunt before "correcting" herself ("I knew I could count on my best grunt - er, I mean friend!"). If she has a parent who's a leader of a crime sindicate, and hasn't had many close relationships outside of that, it's possible that she didn't fully understand the difference between a follower and a friend at first.

The fact that, if his behaviour throughout The Indigo Disk is any indication, part of Kieran's idea of being strong is acting like a straight-up tyrant to the League Club. If, again, he was raised by someone who leads an evil group of any kind, it would make sense if that taught him that he needs to be assertive, and even somewhat cruel, to be powerful (doubly so after the player character's betrayal - it could also have made him believe that he needs to behave more like he dad to gain their respect/be taken seriously).

I woke up like an hour ago and am probably reaching, but I like seeing little connections like this. And adding fuel to theories about characters I like :D
