For me, running is both exercise and a metaphor. Running day after day, piling up the races, bit by bit I raise the bar, and by clearing each level I elevate myself.

“ The literal-minded will complain that the quotes in this book cannot be accurate, and this is probably true. However, nothing between quote marks has been wholly invented; it has been put down to the best memory of people who actually heard or said what was said, and this is, in the opinion of the author, better than the indirect quotation that convinces nobody. The book is an attempt to bring life to what is rapidly becoming a legend, and to show the subject as he lived and breathed. Play it, Sam.”

I can never understand why Londoners fail to see that they live in the most wonderful city in the world. It is far more beautiful and interesting than Paris, if you ask me, and more lively than anywhere but New York – and even New York can’t touch it in lots of important ways. It has more history, finer parks, a livelier and more varied press, better theatres, more numerous orchestras and museums, leafier squares, safer streets, and more courteous inhabitants than any other large city in the world.

it’s cool and fun and special that you can usually do whatever you put your mind to. if you want to be well read know the history of architecture learn to play the piano write consistently sew your own clothes run better speak a foreign language fluently all you have to do is apply curiosity and patience and determination, learn in a way that most makes sense to you, and one day you too will have absorbed the skills necessary to be good at something you once merely envied

because i love y’all, i’m sharing my family’s recipe for apple tea (traditional fall/winter drink in west asia, turkey, and many areas of the balkans)
it’s like a more delicate version of apple cider and i basically live off of this stuff when the weather starts to cool!
Apple Tea (for two)
1 large apple or 2 small, shredded (you can use a cheese grater)
3 cups water
1-2 cinnamon sticks
2-3 pc clove (optional)
honey to taste
1 tsp of lemon juice (add at end)
green tea (optional! the lebanese version usually calls for green tea but i actually prefer it without. up to you!)
throw it all in a pot and let it simmer on a low temperature for an hour or so. while it’s simmering, it will also make your home smell delicious! (if you make it with green tea, add the tea at the end, about five minutes before taking it off the heat so the flavor doesn’t become bitter from oversteeping). strain into your cups and enjoy hot.
end result:

…he wondered if Mozart had had any intuition that the future did not exist, that he had already used up his little time. Maybe I have, too, Rick thought as he watched the rehearsal move along. This rehearsal will end, the performance will end, the singers will die, eventually the last score of the music will be destroyed in one way or another; finally the name ‘Mozart’ will vanish, the dust will have won. If not on this planet then another.

Smiling as an act of resistance in Occupied Palestine | ROAR Magazine
Palestinians living in occupied Palestine have been facing ethnic cleansing and forcible displacement from their villages for more than seven decades. This has been pursued through house demolitions, restriction of movement, curfews, arbitrary arrests and detentions, land confiscations and the denial of access to water, electricity, health and education. Yet Palestinians have also resisted displacement with the aim of rebuilding destroyed houses, ending the Israeli occupation and finally having their freedom.

AFRICOM: The U.S Imperialist Death Squads in Africa | by Enzo Rivers | Medium
AFRICOM is a combatant command which is responsible for all the Department of Defense activities and operations in the African continent, it’s islands, and it’s surrounding waters. Currently there are 29 U.S military bases in 15 African countries, and more than 7,000 American military personnel in the continent alone. The U.S has been able to expand it’s long military presence in Africa with little to no resistance or awareness from media, as many in the United States have no idea what AFRICOM even is. Amongst the people who do know of it’s existence, AFRICOM is well known for it’s lack of transparency when detailing the particular military operations they carry out. AFRICOM doesn’t report nearly any of that militant operations it carries out, and when such activities are reported, like drone strikes, they largely conflict with local reports.

Joe Biden is Bombing Somalia - Left Voice
On Tuesday July 20, the U.S. launched its first airstrike against Somalia since Biden took office in January. Allegedly, the airstrike targeted al-Shabaab, a jihadist organization that has profiliferated throughout Somalia, particularly in the city of Galkayo in central Somalia. It has not yet been independently verified whether any civilians were wounded or killed by the airstrike. Only a few days later, the U.S. carried out its second bombing of Somalia.
