Sheridan: I really can’t take all the credit, Ivanova was essential in running the station.
Lochley: So what did you run?
Sheridan: According to her? My mouth.

went to a spa the other week and thought about absolutely nothing but this the whole time. gale was a team effort so thank you @ladymurgatroid for the phrase ‘retired old lady workout regimen’.
i know shadowheart can learn to swim in the course of the game but there is no way she’s good at it. she is forcibly removed from the floatie when karlach cannonballs too close to the sun, and spends the rest of the day on a lounger insisting that she isn’t sulking.

People have written a lot of touchy-feely pieces on this subject but I thought I’d get right to the heart of the matter

and (in addition, the above is absolutely fair): some people including some women just don't like pink and don't enjoy feminine activities. which is in fact okay. obviously not an excuse to be unkind to those who do, but i think some of the dislike isn't that much deeper than not enjoying like. olives.
i have another bomb to throw, girls who hated pink and femininity in childhood were not experiencing internalized misogyny; it was a rejection of the conditioning pushed on us from birth which we never felt passion for and grew resentful towards because of adults’ insistence on us following the rules of being a girl. when you hit middle-high school and get more say in how you look it feels fucking incredible to reject and be openly hostile to the things you were forced to embrace your whole life. you people just don’t know what internalized misogyny is and tumblr choice feminism lied to you

I know that the nitpicking over why the Fellowship didn’t just ride the eagles to fly directly to Mordor has been talked to death, there’s more than enough answers. The Doylist answer is that would stop the whole book from existing, or replace it with a wholly different book all about eagles. The Watsonian answer is that a) the eagles are a noble independent people not a taxi service, b) the quest is a stealth mission and huge massive giant eagles are not stealthy, c) Mordor has air supremacy and the eagles could only fly to Mount Doom after Sauron was defeated and the Nazguls all gone.
But just now, option d) occurred to me: do we really trust the eagles to withstand the ring? If it tempts Gandalf and Galadriel, surely it tempts Gwaihir the Windlord. Do we want to create the Dread Lord of the Skies? He would wear the Ring on his lovely sharp claw! He would fly higher and swifter than the winds of the world! He would build a magnificent nest from the broken timbers of Edoras! He would eat so many people! All elves and men would be forced underground!

The way Legolas and Arwen approach falling in love with a mortal is really, really funny to me because
Arwen: I will give up my immortality, and my chance to see my mother and father again, because I would rather die with you than live forever after you’re gone.
Legolas, building a ship: Hey Gimli have you ever heard of this little thing called breaking and entering because we’re going to do it to heaven.

Not “Only my reading of canon is correct” or “Interpretations are subjective and all valid” but a secret third thing, “More than one interpretation can be valid but there’s a reason your English teacher had you cite quotes and examples in your papers, you have to have a strong argument that your interpretation is actually supported by the text or it is just wrong and I’m fine with telling you it’s wrong, actually.”

An underappreciated part of running youth organisations (and probably non-youth ones) and wanting them to be welcoming/open/diverse/inclusive is just how often you wind up having to think "is this harmful or just weird to me?" in response to stuff people say or tell you about their lives.
The moment your org tries to appeal outside its bubble and has any success, it will be confronted with the things that were tacitly assumed among you and aren't the norm everywhere, and it's surprisingly stressful on the spot. I don't even think trying to generalise standards here is super helpful beyond a minimal code of conduct because of how out of the blue some stuff is. Just continued investment and novelty to how people live their lives.
