BEHIND THE MUSIC When "Love Mi Browning" came out in 1992, many women were offended. They thought the artist Buju Banton was perpetuating that perceived preference for mulatto and mixed-race women that was allegedly prevalent in Jamaica and the Caribbean at the time. However, few know that he was actually singing to one particular woman, his love interest at the time, the mysterious and beautiful Lorna 👑. According to Buju, certain women were filling up her head with rumors about him, trying to destroy their relationship. He wrote the song to remind Lorna that of all that he possessed and loved, he loved her the most. And he was so grateful that she chose not to be swayed by the "viper" dem.

That's the same Lorna from "Hey Lorna" with Wayne Wonder... #feellikecrying

Allegedly in response to the grumblings, Buju Banton followed up his #1 hit with another single, "Love Black Woman". Both songs were featured on the Mr. Mention album along with "Batty Rider" and "Dickie". Every self-respecting reggae lover had this album, and to this day any time a DJ runs that old "Feeling Soul" riddim (when you hear "Feeling Lonely" by Beres Hammond, that's it) everyone is waiting for BROWNING to drop.... and just like Monday comes behind Sunday, "Love Black Woman" follows that song every time. Historical, lyrical and typical.

Once you know yourself, you can be honest enough to take responsibility for everything you do. Hiding away in your room or roaming the streets avoiding and lying to yourself does not solve the problem. Nope. It's time to rip the bandaid off and let your wounds heal. Covering it up only leads to infection, you need to make it *sting* to clean it up then let the fresh air cure it. Insecurity, self-loathing, narcissism, unaddressed hurt from past experiences, even your own mistakes are all festering wounds that never get better until you acknowledge them and treat them with the balm of self-love, opening your mind, taking responsibility and always, #prayer. Making a commitment to yourself is powerful, because as @bishopjakes preaches, there is nothing as powerful as a changed mind 🤯 Regaining your strength means that people can no longer #gaslight you, making you think that everything is always your fault while they remain perfect. That's not true and they knew it, but they also knew that while you were weak you would continue to accept all the negativity and pile it into yourself. 😨🥵😵 Wake up today and brush all that off. 🤠 You are strong, you are beautiful, you deserve respect and protection. You may be close to someone who is still inside their own head, allowing unchecked emotions to define their behaviour, maybe even their treatment of you.
