i don’t think people understand how much of life is grief. not just people dying, but losing the version of yourself you thought you’d become. grieving the city you had to leave. the friends you lost not in argument, but in silence. the summer that will never come back. the feeling that maybe you peaked at 12 when you were reading books under the covers and believing in forever
#the friends you lost not in argument but in silence#whewwww#whew okay#gonna have to think about that one and also try to overcome what i'm realizing more and more is definitely depression stasis of some kind#because right now i feel like there's a good number of people i'd really love to catch up with and just shoot the shit for an hour#like after the kids go to bed if our timezones line up enough#but i keep not reaching out and not following through when others do#no good reason beyond just...not#although i am also thinking of one friend who ghosted on my bachelorette weekend#(including leaving my sisters on the hook for her portion of the house rental)#and then did come to the actual wedding but left before dinner was fully served to catch a train out (according to others at her table)#and who in the run up vaguely mentioned she was weird about weddings#but never once said 'i'm sorry i can't make it' or 'i'm sorry i had to bail this just wasn't working for me.'#(or offered to reimburse on the house thing)#and just didn't say anything really for the better part of a year until she happened to be in town at the last minute#and asked if i could meet her downtown for dinner the next day#i talked it through with boyfriend for a WHILE and realized...i didn't want to. and this had been a good friend from freaking middle school#i didn't want to sit there and pretend nothing was bothering me#and i didn't want to have to prompt an apology when it didn't seem like she was bothered by any of that behavior#i politely declined and cited the last-minuteness of the request...and that was really the last we heard from each other#still makes me sad once in a while#friendship

#my spouse has back-to-back work travel weekends coming up. which he's usually very good about avoiding. however. conferences.#my parents are coming out for the first one but we're going to their house a couple of weeks later#and i didn't really want my mom on tap three weeks in a row#flying solo with two kids and the dog in an open-ended weekend is. well.#got a babysitter lined up for part of sunday and am trying to find another for some of saturday. just to have more hands available.#i WILL survive but my brain is going to be an amorphous pile of inedible mush by the end#beer me strength#i am so tired#and truly. thisclose to putting the peeps in the chili pot.

#oh damn x 3#calligraphy#handwriting#i'm the left-handed child of two lefties (one of whom is a doctor) so i just had no chance at decent handwriting#but i went to high school with a girl who not only had typewriter-neat and consistent handwriting#but also like. illuminated her notes. like would doodle up a big fancy first letter on a page just in the course of writing!#our creative writing teacher called it 'aarthy font' and i still have no idea how it was achieved#we had several classes together every year including a five-person advanced math class so i saw her in action plenty#just. wild.#anyway shout out to aarthy and also this writer/artist
