SYNOPSIS

cause and effect. push and pull. when you pull too hard and it snaps, how far will you go to fix it?

rina has spent the last three years of their life running from the law, after pushing too hard and getting framed for the murder of Cadian's biggest superstar. liran is doing her best to survive in a world where only the rich are rewarded, pulling and trying her best to catch rina, now a wanted fugitive with a large bounty. When the two eventually collide, they have to choose: remain rivals and continue the chase, or team up as allies and face the ultimate power in their way.

hot take stop making your chinese characters the stereotypical "smart" one not only does it look bad on you for playing into stereotypes but it also furthers the toxicity of the concept that we're not truly chinese if we aren't smart and when it's the only representation you see in media it sucks. many chinese parents put a lot of pressure on their children to do well in school, get a good job, etc. etc. it's extremely stressful, and when you add in the facts that chinese people are rarely included in western media, one of the most common, and that when they do appear, they're smart, it only makes us feel even worse. think on it.

not a single sound follows you into the place, and you wonder if you've made a grave mistake by coming here, entering on your own, guided only by the light of the lantern that's about to go out with just another gust of cold wind, the kind you constantly feel this late in the year, when the weather turns cooler and you bring out the sweaters and jackets.

it's quiet in this city of ghosts, where you find no one else here, and no true way out either. a city of the dead, the half-dead, the undead; of dreams and wishes and hopes all laid to rest, buried under the ground, covered in dirt and grass and moss and leaves and twigs and tiny rocks and markers for each one of them.

the dreams here aren't dead, not yet, at least. it's your job to hunt them down, collect them, store them elsewhere, so no evil can get to it. sure, their owners are dead, but dreams can't die, not really, anyway. you gather them, these undead bits of imagination that were once part of people, and you move them to a better location.

you're the dreamcatcher, and no one tells their children that you, too, are something that was brought back to life, yet not truly alive.

“Well,” Hannah says, nodding along to the music, “I guess this is goodbye.”

Rina looks up from rifling through their bag. “Don’t be silly. This won’t be the last time we meet.”

“It feels like it.”

Rina scoffs, a hand on their hip. Just like old times. “This is not goodbye, Hannah,” they repeat earnestly, looking into her eyes. “This is just graduation. You’re only leaving the school.” And then, to hide the bubbling emotions, they add, “Don’t be so sappy.”

Hannah laughs, and the moment ends. Rina presses a chocolate bar into her hand. “Last one for a while. Make it count.”

A grin, then Hannah unwraps the treat. “Thanks.”

“See you around, Hannah.” Rina turns and leaves the school for good.

Cassidy takes one last look at the run-down apartment that had been her home for the past few years. It wasn’t the best, but it had everything she needed.

But now? Now she had the money. Now she had a luxurious penthouse waiting for her in the Jewel, now she had a grand piano in the living room instead of the cheap keyboard she got at a salvage store, now she had everything she wanted.

Somehow, it was still hard to leave all this behind.

Cassidy picks up her bag and shuts the door behind her, leaving the keys in the lock. The landlord will come by. Eventually.

She goes down the stairs and boards the car waiting outside. The window is rolled up, the car starts, and she turns away from her old life for good.
