Okay so, in my favour, you could argue that she has zero arm muscles and probably couldn't throw a punch.

However, it is pretty tricky to punch a moving, floating cloud in the first place.

Just picturing myself aimlessly swatting at something like two inches above my reach.

I don't know how hardcore my rules would really be considered - Hopefully this suffices.

Anyway, rules wise I tend to do:

1. Typical nuzlocke "if your Pokémon faints it's dead" rule.

Not exclusive to more hardcore approaches.

I used a box on the PC as a "graveyard".

2. Same as the above applies to "first Pokémon you encounter you catch".

3. Nickname all Pokémon. Idk how common this one is but I keep it.

4. Dupes Clause.

Allowing a reroll if I already have the Pokémon just means you don't get 6 of the same encounters.

5. No using Legendaries.

I did catch them in HG for the sake of doing as much of the game as I could but I don't use them.

These tend to be my more hardcore rules:

6. No using items during battle.

This doesn't apply to Pokeballs or held items but any other kind of items that you can use in battle are gone (e.g. healing items).

7. SET mode for battling.

That one took a WHILE to get my head around and I think it's the most significant change imo.

8. The level cap must be at the next gyms ace.

For the Elite 4 and Champion for HG I used Karen's ace as the level cap.

Whilst not a rule I enforced, I generally preferred to only have a few Pokémon match the level caps of those two and not my whole team.

For Red I used the levels of his starters (84). Whilst that was technically 4 levels below his ace, his ace was a Pikachu. 💀

what's more painful: the killing of two teammates or the full DAYS spent grinding up levels cause I was on cartridge?

And the two there that fell:

I love Nuzlockes cause they force me to use Pokémon I never really considered prior for a challenge - e.g. Furfrou, Honchkrow, Gothitelle and now Togekiss have REALLY grown on me.

Plus, it's also a fun way to develop a further attachment to the Pokémon you have caught, which helps raise the stakes.

That does come with almost guaranteed emotional pain though. lol
