The 100-Year-Old Tree... When you live in a place with centuries-old buildings, a hundred years is nothing. When you live in a city that wasn't incorporated until 1884, a century is considered old. Couple that with how the city loves tearing down old buildings, and there's not a lot of easily visible history in urban areas. This elm is in the middle of one of the parking lots at the arena/Stampede grounds, and was planted back when there were still houses instead of paved lots. Now, it's right where the new arena is slated to be, and will be demolished like so many other things. So, we spent some time climbing local history.
