Welcome back to Moon Knight Saturday! We are already on episode 5! And that episode gave us
Moon Knight (1980) #1
And this issue shows us a very familiar backstory. In fact, it is part of what we learn about Moon Knights backstory in the show The story starts with Marc Spector in a desert- together with Bushman, a terrorist-for-hire slaughterin innocent people. Marc (and Frenchie) quickly discover they are standing on the wrong side and rebel against Bushman. In one of their first arguments/fights, a local man joins in, and gets killed. Leaving behind a daughter: Marlene (who we have already met in issue #3). This very much parallels the story of Marc, Layla and her father.
Another parallel to tv Moon Knight: Marc dies in the desert, being brought into the tomb of Pharao Seti....where he awakens again under the statue of Khonshu. Being brought back to life as The Moon Knight
Tumblr media
Another fight with Bushman follows- that Marc eventually loses to save Marlene instead, resulting in Bushmans escape. The two of them leave, to start a new life. A life we have also already gotten to know in issue #3
Tumblr media
He builds of the image of Moon Knight, becomes a vigilante. Until he finds clues of Bushman and goes after him, for one final fight. The fight is brutal and emotional, and he learns a valuabe lesson
Tumblr media
The writing is really good and issue #1 gives us a backstory and emotional arc with character growth *all in one*! It is definitely worth checking out

Welcome back to Moon Knight Saturday for today's comic:
Universe X #6
a story, beginning with a Pharao looking up to Khonshu and hoping for the gift of immortality
Tumblr media
This statue of Khonshu might sound familiar. Because it is. This comic issue gives another explanation at the origion of The Moon Knight, the origin of Marc Spector. It gives us the explanation that is also shown and used in the disney+ series:
Tumblr media
But Marc dying under the statue of Khonsu really is as far as the similarities go. Because in this issue, he is not ressurected by Khonshu as an entity but through the powerful meteoric material that the statue was built from. And though he had no choice in becoming The Moon Knight, he takes respinsibilities for his power
Tumblr media
The whole issue, especially looking at it out of context (with it being #6 after all) can get quite convoluted, but the story of Khonshu, Set and Moon Knight are still very fascinating. And it features more beloved Marvel characters, such as Captain America, the Fantastic Four or mutants. Definitely worth checking out!

Welcome back to Moon Knight Saturday! Today's comic is
Moon Knight (1980) #3 aka "Midnight means Murder"
In this issue, our beloved Moon Knight meets The Midnight Man, a notorious thief operating at the dead of night. Just like our knight in white armour.
But! We also see some more about the way he lives- in a grand mansion, as Steven Grant. In the earlier days, Moon Knight aka Marc Spector was simply a man using multiple secret identities (the rich Steven Grant, the cab driver Jake Lockely or the heroic Moon Knight) to better fight crime
Tumblr media
AND we get to know Marlene, Steven's girlfriend, who drops some wisdom, or perhaps rather a call-out for the man with many identities:
Tumblr media
AND we get an interaction with no other than our dear Crawley as well, not letting himself be bribed (with anything other than money)
Tumblr media
The story proceeds with Steven Grant hosting a grand charity fundraiser and using it as bait to gain the Midnight Mans attention, who turns out be one Anton Mogart, an art collector. It works. And soon Moon Knight and Midnight Man meet. In an epic fight across Mogarts mansion, through artwork and jewerly, the Moon Knight succeeds- with the last minute help of Marlene, and her gun. In the end, Marlene simply shoots Midnight Man, who falls into water. The two of them leave with Frenchie and his helicopter and a certain Marc Spector decides to donate some prized artwork to the local museum!
So in conclusion this issue gave us:
a look into the life of Moon Knight. Or rather, the many lives and personas he uses in his fight of crime
a look into Steven Grant's relationship with Marlene
interactions with Crawley
the introduction of Midnight Man

Welcome back to Moon Knight Saturday! It's time for a new comic! Episode 2 gave us following issue:
Werewolf by Night #33 (1972)
This picks up the story from out last comic, it's the direct follow-up. And we get a lot of new action in this one! Because the werewolf is not going down without a fight! ...but neither is the Moon Knight
Tumblr media
Eventually, Moon Knight wins- but solely because he was in luck. As the night disappeared, Jack transformed back into his human self. Which Moon Knight carries to the committee. Only to find out that they have also kidnapped Jack's girlfriend and sister. AND they are refusing to pay him until he turns into a werewolf again. While they wait, Moon Knight gets confronted by the immorality of his actions:
Tumblr media
The speech works. Moon Knight turns on the committee and helps Jack, who has turned back into a werewolf shortly after adressing Moon Knight, escape and break free from his cage. What follows is another fight- now Moon Knight and Werwolf together against the commitee! Well...until his sister and girlfriend are rescued and the commitee defeated. Then, the werewolf resumes his earlier activities of fighting our Moon Knight, who now chooses to leave the fight in a very dramatic manner
Tumblr media
so in summary, the next Werwolf by Night issue gives us
more amazing action and fight sequences
a heartfelt speech by Jack
Moon Knight getting his first glimpse of fighting against the bad guys
PLUS
This comic also gives us one of my favourite bits of random dialogue: "I don't even carry a gun!" So real.
