unfortunately for someone with 2 years of theology education i don't actually have anything particularly insightful to say about the theology of hamlet HOWEVER one of the turning points in terms of religion to me was when hamlet said in 5.2 "there's a divinity that shapes our ends, rough-hew them how we will" & "we defy augury / there’s a special providence in the fall of a sparrow". since hamlet attended wittenberg which is the ultimate protestant school then was confronted with his father's ghost in catholic purgatory, the christianity in the play is pretty ambiguous, but those lines make me think hamlet is ultimately protestant. i'm not smart enough to say anything about how this shapes the fact that everyone else seems to be catholic but i do think hamlet's apparent 'transformation' after returning to denmark and being at peace with god's providence towards the end is definitely showing a protestant agenda. ultimately hamlet was being performed to an anglican audience in elizabethan england so there would be inherent protestant bias anyways i think.
