The issue with how the OSC treats canon representation

Alright, my first post- it's a long one.

Something I find really strange about the OSC is how they try and push for more diversity but then completely fail to include that diversity in anything- and then when a show is made that has exactly what they want in it, they just refuse to give it a chance or have some weird thing against it.

I saw a poll on twitter that was for Best Autistic Character- and within it- only 1 of the characters was canonically autistic; that being Cracklin from ION. Who, as far as I am aware, is a partial self insert of the queer and autistic creator. And yet- people were rooting for the characters who were nowhere near canonical or good representations.

Right now it's Cracklin vs Sketchpad (TNM). There's tons of quotes begging for Sketchpad to win even though the op states Cracklin is canon and Sketchpad isn't. Some people even saying ION is weird, ugly, or annoying. Why is that? Is Cracklin too autistic for you? Are his autistic quirks just annoying to you? Is there a limit to how accurate the depiction of autism is before people just don't like it?

Cracklin is amazing Autistic representation and the majority of people who refuse to give ION a chance have subtly ableist reasons for it; as well as larger object show creators clearly being jealous of ION's success (which is funny because Heloise has always had a very large audience pre-osc and Russia itself has a much larger object show fanbase; CFMOT often reaches higher view counts than II and has more views than multiple episodes of HFJONE combined) and this baseless criticism and random "this show sucks" with no context from larger english osc creators causing people to not give the show a chance because someone cool said it "looks bad" and keeps making posts to generate more negativity towards it (cough cough yes this is about someone specific)

So, why do shows just avoid making actual canon rep and instead just slap an "it's up for interpretation" label on characters- or, only ever confirm it outside of the show with zero elaboration on that facet of the character in canon? Sure it's weird for a character to just say "I am autistic" but there's also ways to incorporate more genuine types of autistic traits while also hammering in the fact that YES this character is autistic outside of the show instead of way after the fact in some one off qna or livestream. There's also ways to introduce things like autistic pride symbols. (kind of like Paintbrush having a pride flag near their bed!) It can't be that hard...

The point is- if Object Redundancy (gross) and ION are the only shows to have CANON autistic rep only for you to consider the only good one to be "weird and uncomfortable" and would rather have a character who's identity is completely based on headcanons put on a pedestal above them, there is a clear issue. If you crave representation so badly, then make media that has that representation and stop complaining when the one good canon rep we have doesn't meet your standards- because calling Cracklin's quirks "cringe" or "annoying" and blatantly discriminating against Heloise for being different and claiming ION's art style is "gross to look at" without even giving it a chance is just sad. Having a style derivative of the default is not a bad thing. TONS of object show artists have extremely derivative art styles, some even similar to ION, that are very popular. At this point I am starting to doubt the excuse that "the art looks weird" is the genuine reason why you don't like it.
