before u read if u hate will byers and don't even try to look at it from the other side - go away. if u after reading this post still don't understand him as a character - go away too. ty!

1. general useful features.

will is one of smartest characters from stranger things universe, one of strongest (not in the physical sense) and one of a character of strong spirit.

he is not the most physically strongest or physically fit but no one and never will not devalue his intelligence, survivability, adaptability to different life situations and a strong mental system.

every who judge will that he is "crybaby", he is "useless" etc - is every who is wrong about will. don't forget that he is 16 and everything that he has experienced and is experiencing - big pressure for himself. tears, psychos, sadness - natural humanity reaction. turn on empathy and start thinking: what would you be like in his place?

2. analysis of characteristics.

• speaking about his mind - he showed its to us in 1x1. in that wild life situation he is doing everything to safe himself - start calling to the phone, call for help, loaded the gun with shaking hands and being a 12 yo child - all for living. and if stranger things was not abt fantasy he is don't going to ups down and prob don't surviving in wild conditions bc he is doing everything for safe himself. he kept his composure at that moment and did not cower in a corner peacefully and quietly waiting for someone to come to his aid. then he hoping solely on himself and this is alr says a lot abt him.

• speaking abt his survivability - yep, ik and understand that series is fantasy and accordingly that he survived in ud for the week without water & food - insanely. people from the laboratory was scared to be there without a special suit and he without anything survived. ofc it could also be bc he is needed for vecna for vecna's specific goals but if we take some other any kid pre-teen - this kid gonna die bc of shock and atmosphere ud.

i also want to back up my words with a teaser's moment: will jumps from tree to tree - its insanely that i can't find any word to describe my own emotions. this delights me and back up my words abt will's survivability - he was 12 and he fight hard for himself life. i'm sure that he gonna live in every conditions even if he won't be needed for some vecna.

• speaking abt his adaptability to different life situations - should i say anything here if I described everything in the previous points? he like gonna live in every conditions and will survive anywhere yk...

• speaking abt his strong mental system - he collected in himself too much: falling in love with his best friend, internalized homophobia (remember this is 80 in usa) and too much not pretty things in his life like being bullied, missing for a week, hawkins situation(s), etc. - he holds on, although he could have committed suicide long ago bc of pressure in his life - but he still live.

3. overall picture.

i want to touch on the topic again when people talk about will as "crybaby" or he is "useless" etc. - i have to say that this is a wildly misconception abt the character and want asking u: how and what did you watch the series if can't see BANALITY? and if u doesn't understand will like character after reading my post - i have too much questions.

speaking about whether he will live or not - ig he is gonna live. he - last character that die on season 5th. he's a strong and resilient character, even if we're not talking about physical strength. he will do anything - if it all means that he and the people he loves will survive. I don't argue about his probable suicidal tendencies - but even if so, he still remains alive bc he prob has a passion for life, despite all the ailments that prevail in his life. this is actually proves and shows us will as a strong and resilient character who has survived a gigantic horror in his life. will he die in season 5th - good question, but everything leads to a negative answer and a lot of aspects and evidence lead to this very answer.

this post is not about byler at all so if u want to give a refutation of my words - then do it without byler mentions.

this post is not for comments like "it is logical for who u do this" etc - no, this is wrong opinion bc i know how much people don't want understanding series that them love and don't want understanding couple that them love so please refrain from such comments and just read. ty!

1. complete "development" of the couple.

at first let's see them "development" by the seasons for getting picture of their relationship.

season 1st: party (without byers) finds el in the forest. first mike's thought - «this is not will».

el perceives mike like brother and actually their relationship remind siblings or friends with only platonic affair.

season 2nd: whole season mike was without el at all! ironically, isn't it?

whole season mike was in doubt about el - is she alive or not. their relationship did not undergo any development in season 2nd.

they meet at the end of season 2nd and... that's all? them don't ever talk in season 2nd actually. can we say that season was one of the steps for them development? no absolutely.

tbh when people say "omg! i love sm mileven in season 1-2 they're so cute then" - it's pmo bc in season 2nd they contact only in the last episode and??? i have many questions.

season 3rd: the beginning of their relationship. they seem saccharine, but in 3x2 el break up with mike.

every attempt - talk to each other, ends in failure. they were able to talk to each other only in 3x7. but it's not end of this fun joke bc in the end of 3x8 in moment with mileven kiss where el like «devours» mike in kiss - mike js stands rooted to the spot during the kiss with his eyes open. can u explained to me this moment?

could we say that season 3rd was development for their pair? sure, if it development unhealthy relationships, where one - liar, the other - don't want to hear anything.

season 4th: from beginning of the season their relationship do not portend nothing good bc el lying mike abt her "new" life in letters and writing abt how she feel "good" in school, how many friends she got.

later in rink o mania mike finds out that el was lying to him (for 6 months ig) for too much things - and this is hit him.

their fight in 4x3 feels like the beginning of the end: mike can't tell el that he loves her even in letters and el lying to him too much - and that upsets mike.

also in season 4th remembered moment in rink o mania: iykyk el have ptsd (suppose) and when mike asking her "el, what did u do?" - its working like trigger to her and remembered abt her trauma in lab. this hurts even more el and she more and more think abt she like a monster that even her boyfriend doesn't accept anymore.

2. features of their relationship.

their relationship start from nothing, and, ig its have some reason - mike's attempt to be "normal" due to his internalized homophobia. show to homophobic society that he "the same as everyone else" (which btw is not even close to the main idea of the series bc the series is about freaks)

and this is strange when thirteen/fourteen yo girl recently escaped from lab and doesn't even know what means «friend» enters into a relationship.

el's arch - is not abt relationship or "mike's girlfriend". its abt knowing urself even in later. she finds out something in 14-15 yo that some teenagers managed to find out in childhood. her arch consists of self-knowledge and finding urself. el before entering into any romantic relationship need to know herself. she before anything want to be usual girl like everyone but before that everyone see in her monster - its destroys herself at all.

mike is also teenage who need to know himself. he is confused about himself and his own feelings so he need to understand himself and what he wants in general. whole season 4th he doesn't understand what does his relationship with el lead to and does he see himself with her in the future. he is js a teen but more broad-minded (due his life was more social than el's) but them both don't understand themselves. maybe mike understand but doesn't accepts.

3. overall picture of the relationship.

so we get this one mileven: mike - who can't say to el that he loves her and if he CAN then in some extreme & hard situation. he can't say "i love u" to her into eyes. el - embellishes her life and the impression is formed like she doesn't trusts mike if she can't tell him abt her REAL life in the school.

their romantic relationship so toxic and perhaps forced. they don't have any potential stay romantic couple at least bc reminded some usual fading childishness «love» to each other.

also them knowing each other less than dating. maybe due some affection to each other (and how we know mike MAYBE have affection issues. iykyk) or js due fear of letting go. but their break up don't tell abt "they will never be able to communicate again". their break up can be best solution to each other at least to know themselves better. like - mike have leadership qualities and they were noticeable BEFORE he and el entered into a romantic relationship.

they have potential to be friends with platonic affair. and if them gonna be endgame at the end of series - it's gonna be the most reckless solution bc their relationship destructive to each other.
