there's... there's something weird about heavy muscled almost body builder built Emmrich Volkarin. I mean it's not like he couldn't be one it's just... not him. I mean I'm scrolling my feed see art of Emm being not that slender & flexible noodle of a gentleman he is and immediately think "whose goddamn gym rat buddy is it?". he clearly has a good physique and totally not frail but damn...the body he has is perfect to serve💅 and slay 🫦

(yes I know we couldn't see how he looks like under his clothing. this mod that gives him body texture doesn't exist to me)

I know everyone’s annoyed with the media literacy aspect of fandom or criticism but like girl, can we for a minute call the issues around Veilguard and its reception what it is.

Veilguard is the fourth game in a series, yet we have people complaining about continuity or retcons when they take Veilguard out of context and act like it exists in a vacuum. We have people complaining about retcons when the thing retconned is just fanon. We have people complaining about sanitized lore when corpses are everywhere, but they need a character to explicitly point to a corpse and exclaim “oh no, a corpse,” otherwise, it doesn’t count.

We have people acting like every single unanswered question is some great narrative failing when, it’s a serialized story—some threads were meant to be left open for future exploration. We have people claiming Veilguard is fundamentally incompatible with previous games when, in reality, it’s just not catering to the version of the story they built in their head. We have people so caught up in their own interpretations that they think anything that challenges those interpretations is a mistake rather than, you know, just a different perspective.

And honestly, there are waaay too many people who are at their core just dissatisfied with the way Solas was written in Veilguard, mostly because they failed at media literacy a decade ago. And instead of recognizing that maybe they misread the text, they’re out here insisting the writers got it wrong, as if they weren’t the ones constructing an entire personality for him out of vague voice lines and wishful thinking.

Defending Lichdom for Emmrich

I saw a tiktok talking about how Lichdom is the "bad" ending for Emmrich. And someone even compared it to Ascended Astarion vs. Spawn Astarion. (I would love to dig into why it's not even close to the same thing but I will digress.) I think the biggest issue I see with people having trouble choosing Lichdom for Emmrich is Manfred. No matter if Emmrich chooses mortality or Lichdom it's a sacrifice. People only seem to think that if he chooses Manfred that's the best ending. Both are his good ending. Emmrich says that he has moments of regret for foregoing lichdom. No he wouldn't trade it for Manfred if you choose mortality, but he the regret is still there. He worked his whole life towards something that not many could do and all that time and effort is gone. There will be and is grief in that. Emmrich talks about all the studying, the trials, and the sifting of his soul he has gone through. Maybe it was born out of a fear of dying but it has turned into something much more noble. He speaks on the ways he can protect the Necropolis and continue to use his powers and knowledge for good. Of course Emmrich is going to be sad that Manfred is gone if he chooses to continue in Lichdom. But many are forgetting that the ceremony for Lichdom means Emmrich will actually die as well. And unless he passes that final right, he may not even achieve lichdom. Either way he has to come face to face with his mortality and that isn't the issue. The issue is whether or not he would be okay with others passing on. Choosing Manfred shows he was not. And that's okay. Choosing Lichdom shows he was continuing on with his life's work and honoring the sacrifice that Manfred made. That's noble in it's own right.

There are lines Emmrich says as a Lich that it is everything he dreamed of and more. That he is so content and excited for his achievement. If you visit the Necropolis with him once he is excited and eager. My point is, he is not consumed by grief if he chooses Lichdom. He has I believe normal grief because he lost someone very close to him, but he is content, excited, and feeling so accomplished. It is okay that we are sad to lose Manfred. But projecting that Emmrich would forever be distraught and a mess is against his character and what we see in the game. Thank you for coming to my Emmlich talk. And if you haven't romanced him as a lich, you definitely should because it's beautiful.

Alright, finally finished DA2 for the second time ever. Of course Isabela and Fenris were actually recruited this time and I did their personal quests. Unfortunately Merrill's quest bugged out near the end of it :( hers was the only one i wasn't able to finish, but everyone else's got done.

Fenris romance was okay I guess. Maybe if I had him in party more it would have been better, but he hates mages too much for that to work out. At least i can say I romanced someone other than Anders lol

Must have done something wrong with Isabela's quest, because she bailed and never came back despite me having her original outfit in my inventory for some reason. Still not sure what that was about, but considering Merrill's quest bugging out it was probably yet another bug

It's just as fun as it was the first time around when you forget most of the plot teehee

Was fully expecting Fenris to ditch when I sided with the mages, but who knows if I'll ever finish the game :) I'm stuck on a combat section AGAIN
