Zoomester Studyblr Challenge Days 4 and 5!
For my researching fellows, what are you researching on? If you’re not currently researching, what is the topic within your field that you’re most passionate about?
I’m fascinated by the intersection between disability, linguistics, and other topics in my field (like speech and hearing science). For example, one interesting thing I learned recently is that the stapedial reflex, an involuntary response designed to protect your middle and inner ear from loud noises, is often a little wonky in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Autistic people experience loud noises as distressing or painful not due to any weakness or excessive sensitivity on their part, but because loud noises are measurably louder and more painful to them due to a failure of that involuntary protective reflex.
I’d love to do more research on this someday to get a better understanding of why this happens and if there’s any way to stop it. I think that learning more about this reflex would be a great way to potentially reduce sensory overload and suffering for individuals, Autistic or not, who experience painful hyperacusis.
Tag 3 studyblrs that you like seeing on your dashboard
I love seeing posts from @study-van! You’re always so cheerful and upbeat, you inspire me to work hard even when I’m not feeling my best
@ezra-studies is also one of my favorite accounts. I love seeing all the art and poetry you post, it makes me feel more connected to humanity as a whole and reminds me of the beauty that’s there
Finally, I love @lunarstudiesblog. Everything you post is so pretty, and I love how much you romanticize daily life. Your blog inspires me to live in the moment and pay attention to all the beautiful things around me

Zoomester Studyblr Challenge Day 3!
Have you done a challenge before? If so, how was it? If not, what are you expecting to get out of this experience?
I’m new-ish to Studyblr, so this is my first time doing a challenge like this! I think this challenge will be a great motivator for me to be more active both with my studies in general and on this blog in particular. I’m also looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends!

Zoomester Studyblr Challenge Day 2!

If you’ve chosen a major, why did you decide on it? If you’re in any other grade , what field/major interests you the most?
I initially majored in international relations because I love linguistics and wanted to do something practical with it. I took a year-long hiatus for my health, during which I began to work as a transcriptionist. I fell in love and realized that helping people communicate and express themselves is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I changed my major to Communicative Disorders and I’ve never looked back
