Everyone here go fucking listen to Quebec by Ween it’s an incredible album produced during the height of the war on drugs and post-9/11 paranoia. Dean and Gene Ween went through some fucking shit making this album and you feel it. If you like alt rock or whatever the fuck Ween is you owe it to yourself to give it a listen.
Gener was going through a divorce and his substance abuse issues were so bad he eventually left the band for a few years to focus on himself, Deaner lost a friend to an overdose and he himself had some substance abuse issues(seriously the songs about drugs on Ween’s earlier records are like HELL YEAH I am on ACID and COCAINE and the ones on Quebec are like “this isn’t fun anymore but it’s the only thing I have left”), America was about to get into a disastrous and unnecessary war, everyone was in each other’s fucking business, and the surveillance state was doing its bullshit. The songs “So Many People in the Neighborhood” and “Happy Colored Marbles” are basically just musical adaptations of mental breakdowns and they are both so euphoric to listen to. Like its noise and loudness but there’s a certain release to it. When you hear the yelling in Marbles with the distorted music it does something to you. Or maybe I’m just weird.
Also if you listen to the album and you like it you can find the demos for it on YouTube easily, they’re called the Caesar Demos(Caesar was the albums original name) and they were just posted online by Dean Ween one day.
Sorry for the long post but I’m pretty brownpilled right now and Quebec is honestly one of my favorite albums ever made. Praise Boognish. That said, Ween can be hard to get into so if it’s not your thing I understand lol
