📼 Put Your Records On - Corinne Bailey Rae
Hello, it’s Thursday today and I haven’t slept yet! I did some planning for Spain—by planning I mean making lists, and did some sketching–it’s been a long time since I’ve finished drawing anything. I’ve been thinking of posting this for a while now, but I keep forgetting and I didn’t know what to write yet, and to get this over with I’m going to talk about the things I’ve done over the week, some of them had me ticking boxes off my bucket list!
I 𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒎𝒚 𝟐𝟎𝒕𝒉 𝒃𝒊𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒅𝒂𝒚 with my friends eating pizza, Korean bbq, and ice cream. I rarely see them these days since most of us graduated and are looking for jobs, some are still in uni so the catching up was like a breath of fresh air. I didn’t realize how lonely I was without them. They 𝒈𝒊𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒎𝒆 books (Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami and Murder is Easy by Agatha Christie), a bookmark, a brownie, and a pastry. The tea set in my picture was actually also a gift from my mom, I was touched that she knows I enjoy weird stuff like this. I also 𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒎𝒚𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇 𝒂 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒕 𝒇𝒊𝒍𝒎 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒂 for such a cheap price! The day after, 𝑰 𝒈𝒐𝒕 𝒂 𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒐𝒐! The clouds are from Rene Magritte’s The Curse, I love his works; the figure on the left is the Kilometer Zero in Manila, it means starting point, so whenever I think: I have so many things I want to do, but where should I start? The answer is I should start here, where I am; the right one was just built behind the KM 0 and I really didn’t know what it was until I looked it up after getting inked. Oh well, even that is an achievement: not getting too attached to meanings. I’m so happy not just because I designed it myself, but also because as a first tattoo, ribs would be a bad choice. It hurt like hell and I will proudly display it as a feat of bravery. My thing with tattoos is that I thought getting one would be enough, but until now I’m still browsing cute designs and I can’t wait to get another one; it never ends. I had a small date with my boyfriend the next day, we claimed my film SLR which we had fixed, walked around Quiapo, and 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒅 𝑾𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒀𝒐𝒖 in our local cinema. It was such an experience since we literally had the cinema to ourselves, no one else was watching! On Monday I had to wake up at the ungodly hour of 6am to finally 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒎𝒚 𝒅𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝑫, I was very sleepy that when I got home I died on the couch. I took a rest for the next two days, until now!

𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒖𝒑𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆. | 𝚂𝚎𝚙𝚝𝚎𝚖𝚋𝚎𝚛 𝟹, 𝟸𝟶𝟷𝟿 ♥
I know I haven’t posted updates regarding my life for a long time now, but this time I feel like I need to talk about my dreams and how I’m slowly reaching them one step at a time. Back in 2015, I was a very confused, hopeless, and hopeful student at my uni. I was doubting I would ever reach my dreams, not only the big ones, but the smaller ones that comprise days, aesthetics, and lifestyle. Now, I’ve finished my bachelor’s degree in history and I have a lot of things to look forward to in my life. In a month, I will fly to Spain and be an English language assistant, it’s not a lifetime job, but it’s an opportunity, a stepping stone into my dream of travelling the world and visiting different cities, especially Europe. I’m also planning a design for my first ever tattoo, a thing that was in my bucketlist for so many years now. When I was younger I thought: How could I ever do that? I don’t have the resources, the confidence, and the experience to travel the world. Will I ever be able to do that? Now, it doesn’t seem so impossible.
The next step that I’ve been thinking about is applying for an art history master’s degree, maybe in Europe, or maybe back in my country. I’ve always wanted to study in a foreign country. If I ever stumble on a scholarship abroad, that would be two things on my life goals that I will be ticking off:
Study abroad.
Get a master’s degree.
I do think I belong in academia. I know that I’m going to be reading, writing, and researching for the rest of my life; I love writing, as long as I’m informed enough and passionate enough to have something to say or present. It’s not yet a detailed plan, but I’ve been continuously researching, planning, and thinking about it. As a side note, does anyone here has an experience getting a masters degree in art history at Spain? If yes, how was it? Maybe in two to three years, I will take it, but for the meantime, I am first going to enjoy an easier job but with lots of opportunities to travel and explore. What I’ve learned from this is that no matter how absurd you may think your dream is, no matter how dreamy and unattainable your younger self might think it is, you can reach them. There will always be opportunities, big or small, it’s up to you on how you’re going to seize it and work for it.

29 August 2019 | Greetings, friends! I’ve been away for the summer reading *all the books* but now that the term is gearing up again I wanted to check in and say I’m still very much alive. I hope summer treated everyone well, but I’ll just be honest and say that I am plenty ready for autumn. This will be a very heavy term for me, so I would appreciate prayers that I would seek and trust in Christ’s sufficiency during this season when I’m tempted to rely on my own strength. Let me know if there are any ways I can be praying for you as the academic year begins!
