people telling you they reread your fic is the biggest compliment you could ever receive. there are thousands of stories out there begging to be found, to be explored, but your story meant so much to someone that they came back to it eagerly, they went over every word again. to love is to return and loving a fic is rereading it. thank you to all readers and rereaders <3333

Interesting how the majority of MiziSua's fond memories are during the day and full of light.
While pivotal moments for IvanTill are associated with night and darkness.
The light they're depicted in as pairings really highlights the circumstances of their childhoods and the tone of their respective backgrounds.
Mizi is one of, if not the best, treated humans in Anakt Garden and these positive conditions reflect in her positive attitude/disposition.
Ivan, Sua, and Luka are all treated like commodities by their owners. Sua was basically a dress-up doll. Luka and Ivan are status symbols/cash cows. Their wants and needs as human beings are ignored in favor of their owners' desires, but they at least seem to regularly be given the basics requirements (food/hygiene, etc) and maybe even superficially spoiled for their seeming cooperation with their alien captors. They are likely to follow along with their owners' wishes in order to avoid possible punishment.
Till, on the other hand, is actively abused in pretty much every way possible. He's also used as a test subject by the aliens. He thrashes at the chains that bind him and we constantly see the consequences he endures for his rebellious actions.
MiziSua's relationship is framed as pretty lighthearted in the flashbacks despite humanity's present situation, mainly because half the pairing (Mizi) is unaware of how bad things actually are. She's been shielded from the reality of it by everyone around her. No one wanted to dim her light. But, of course, once she lost Sua (her God, her universe), she discovered how harsh this world truly is.
IvanTill, on the other hand, both have always seen this world for what it is. They just cope with it in very different ways. Ivan, by keeping his head down, following orders to the alien's faces, then disobeying secretly behind their backs. Till, by pushing back violently and fighting aggressively against the injustices he's faced with.
This also sort of explains why Ivan and Till both have unrequited feelings for the people that they do. Till represents hope to Ivan through his rebellious nature, his fighting spirit, that Ivan lacks. Mizi represents hope to Till with her positivity/optimism since all of his own has faded away through his years of suffering. They both are admired traits that they wish they had themselves, that they treasure in the other person.
It will be interesting to see if Till's crush on Mizi will survive if they are ever reunited, because Mizi is no longer that blindly optimistic girl he used to have feelings for.

SUA - IVAN TYPE OF JEALOUSY
I've just realized that Sua and Ivan had the same very weird type of jealousy:

- Sua was not jealous of Till even though Till liked Mizi, instead, Sua turned to be upset with Mizi 'cause Mizi was so silly goofy that she didn't realize Till's feelings for her though it was as plain as crystal.

- And in the same way, Ivan was not jealous of Mizi although Mizi won Till's affection. He turned to be upset with Sua instead because Sua's feelings was reciprocated and her affection for Mizi was both-sided while his was not, even though he considered that they were alike, that they were the same kind of person.

Also on the contrary, we can see that Ivan is very close to Mizi in some offical side-arts/side-stories (you can find them on Vivinos X account). Mizi talked to Ivan first and asked him for an explanation when she heard something she didn't understand, and she even asked Ivan to carry her on his back. Mizi and Ivan interaction was far closer than Mizi and Till. Actually, Till's relationship with Mizi was like one-sided, and he just followed behind Mizi to know more about her but did not dare to come closer or tried to strike up a proper conversation.

you know what, thought about it some more and i think the age difference between luka and hyuna makes sense for his character... the juxtaposition of luka being the oldest character and veteran contestant, while his child self is portrayed as a small sickly boy who hangs out with younger children... (3 years is not that much now that they're adults but it is quite a significant gap for children) portraying luka as a golden boy and dominant performer on stage while showing he's actually quite immature both physically and emotionally...
hyuna's situation is pretty true to life too, befriending an older boy and thinking he's harmless, just a soft boy, maybe he just has trouble making friends his own age... and then one day he makes a move on you. when you reject him, he snaps and gets scary and you realize you've underestimated him... like obviously luka was just a child and a troubled individual but so often in real life are young girls expected to be more mature than they actually are, and take the burden of dealing with all the bs when subjected to an emotionally stunted boy's obsession.... shes jsut like me fr....

Upon rewatch I noticed that that the screens were displaying Luka before Mizi was prompted to fight back (seeing his face must have reignited that anger from round 5)
It starts to spin behind her as she fights, and as Hyuna approaches her it appears behind her too. United in their revolutionary hatred for this one fucking guy
But in all seriousness it makes sense. It's not just about Luka himself but what he represents. Beyond the things he's done to them personally, he also foils them narratively. He's the golden boy, he's #1, we literally see him on a throne in Top 3, but on the edge of it cautiously. Luka is the exact opposite of Mizi and Hyuna, who rebel against Alien Stage. He's someone who represents the ideal contestant, both subservient and also a cold-blooded manipulative killer. He's "won" the system by giving into it, and through that losing his humanity.
And I think it's important to recognize that despite how terrible he is, he's a product of Alien Stage. He's not the big bad here, he's a victim too (not that this vindicates him), but he's response to this is what foils our actual heroes. And he looms over them here, for all that he's done and all that he represents. Mizi could have been like Luka too, as someone who once idolized Alien Stage. But she's not. She sees the truth and she spits in the face of all that.
#clap clap clap#EXACTLY THIS#people stop sleeping on the Luka imagery#doomed gays are good but the subtle world building really makes this so so special#alien stage#alnst
