My Imperfections are Your Perfections
Adam Warlock x Loki Laufeyson
Soulmate Au, Canon Divergent
Excerpt 1
“I have seen this phenomenon before. Only once where both parties are intact.” He spoke in his usual condescending way, treating the group as lower intelligence visitors.
“Then that's our sure confirmation; Adam’s soulmate tore their soul bond apart.” Gamora chimed in grimly, clutching Peter’s arm.
Peter clenched and unclenched his fist at an inconsistent pace. “That dick! I’ll kill him myself. A blaster straight to the brain. Doesn't seem to use it anyway.”
The wizard in front of them turned, pausing where he was, “I assume you know the man’s soulmate based on your crude talk.” His eyebrow raised slightly, “I venture that I am correct?”
Quill looked at his crew, waiting for their judgement. Adam made no sound or acknowledgment there was conversation around him. “We don't really know the guy. All we've got is a name and a home. Names Loki, Asgardian?”
Strange’s look turned grim, “I know the god of Mischief quite well. I can not say we are terribly acquainted, however.”
“So you know who he is? What kinda guy are we dealin’ with? Thunder cheeks said he wasn't there.” Rocket waved his arms around and accidentally jostling the equipment on his back.
The doctor stroked his goatee, eyebrows cinched together, “He was most likely watching you while you were there, hidden among his peers. Loki can shape-shift quite well and quickly from what I've seen.”
Excerpt 2
Loki crossed his arms, “I see not how that matters. I do not want it. I do not want possession of the soul bond.”
The silence returned, not a sorrowful one, but a guilty one. A silence that spoke of horrors and pain. Thor turned Loki towards him with a hand on his shoulder, “There is a way,” a second hand made its way to Loki’s other shoulder, shaking the man slightly. Electricity buzzed through the room, Loki’s gaze downcast.
“There is a way to remove the soul bond. There is a way to rip strings from the threads of life and time, so remove every possibility of a soul bond in your life.” Thor spoke slowly, his voice quivering, “But it is not safe. It is not just, Brother.”
“A last ditch effort, then.” Loki decided, sneering, “How come you get the simplicity of an unconnected life? You have no expectations to meet.”
Thor frowned, “I did not choose it. If I could go back, I would save her, no matter how it must be done.”
Loki looked around, bristling, “I will find it myself, and I will remove this gods forsaken bond.” Thor reached for him, but did not close the distance, knowing Loki would not appreciate it.
“Why do you hate it so?” He tried to sound indifferent, he tried to show he did not care what Loki did with his life. He was afraid Loki would take it the wrong way and turn on him again, like all those years ago.
Thor had believed Loki changed. That his hatred for the galaxy and community around had diminished. No, Thor knew he had changed. More than he had in the timeline of his complex life.
Loki still hadn't responded to his question, staring out into the vastness from the window. his fingers wrung together, in a sort of nervous manner.
He sighed, closing his eyes briefly, “The commitment, I suppose. The expectation to be just as perfect as him.”
Excerpt 3
The sky above them shone with its radiant shades, the Bifrost below glowing. The weight of them standing there did not cause the crystals harm, but made them chime beautifully.
Loki opened his mouth to speak the last number, but Adam interrupted him, calling the countdown quicker. “One,” Adam breathed, using one hand to press his soul into Loki, and the other to pull Loki’s face forward.
Loki pressed his soul in at the same moment, the soulmate’s actions flawlessly mirrored. There was pain, but it wasn’t a bad pain, it was a final pain. Pain that let Loki know this was it, something forever. The strings of fate had been pulled, and straightened themselves back out.
Buzzing in his head, prickling in his limbs, and softness in his bones. Adam’s hand lay on the back of his head, carding through his ravenette locks. His hand pulled the god forward, harder against Adam’s forehead, harder against his chest. The souls shone together, bumping against their chests.
