Dan's doing nice stuff
I mean, that's not news, but his latest newsletter is all very nice: Generative Art Riso Prints, Notebooks & Website update
Some days I wish I could do all this (*waves hands*) all over again, and just do it more creatively second time around. Don't you? Sometimes I miss the reason I got into all this stuff in the first place. Maybe it's just been one of those weeks.

A hyperlink isn't a marriage proposal.
"Create a list of bookmarks linking to websites you find interesting, and publish it for the world to see. It's a bit strange, almost nobody seems to be doing this. Looking through a sample of personal websites, very few of them has links to other personal websites. A hyperlink isn't a marriage proposal. It is enough to find some redeeming quality in a website to link to it. It costs nothing, and helps bring traffic to pages that you yourself think deserve it.~" Via: https://wiki.xxiivv.com/site/directory.html Someone contacted me, sort of via my blog, and sent me a link to Oquinie , which sent me down a (good) rabbit hole. I've been really enjoying blogs recently. Like, more so now that everything is all so serious on Substack (and maybe even more so as I have an (ir)rational(?) hatred of Substack). Anyway. I'll sort this at some point. It's up to you do decide what 'this' is, in this instance. As you were. Carry on.

Skip it.
"The Wadsworth Constant says that you can safely skip the first 30% of anything you see online. (It was meant for YouTube videos, but it applies just as well to writing). This is one of those annoying pieces of advice that remains applicable even after you know it. Somehow, whenever I finish a draft, my first few paragraphs almost always contain ideas that were necessary for writing the rest of the piece, but that aren’t necessary for understanding it. It’s like I’m giving someone a tour of my hometown and I start by showing them all the dead ends." https://www.experimental-history.com/p/28-slightly-rude-notes-on-writing

Good notification
"We’ve been notified that a parcel has been posted to you from False Knees in Canada."
It's good because I am excited to get a comic and a print from @falseknees and also, because I really hope that Royal Mail think I am getting some actual false knees.

This is nice
Someone saying nice things about me in a podcast. He says I'll hate it – actually, he's been really generous. And you can't hate that.

If you keep saying it for long enough...
maybe it'll change
Tumblr media
It's register office.
No one knows this. I'm genuinely not pointing fingers here, because I have yet to talk to anyone about this who is not surprised. Including people who work in the death industry and people who don't. This is a screen grab from a funeral directors I was looking at earlier. Oliver Peyton's, actually.
Someone I spoke to recently said it'll probably change at some point. I guess it will. But at least you'll know what it used to be.

The hardest thing in the world is simplicity
"There’s a wonderful letter Chekhov wrote to his brother Alexander about the meaning of grace, how grace is when you make the least number of movements between two points – and that type of athletic prose has always appealed to me, coupled with light-handedness and restraint. Elegance, to me, is writing just enough. And, as James Baldwin said, in his  Paris Review interview, ‘the hardest thing in the world is simplicity’."
Claire Keegan, interviewed for the Booker Prize.

Passion project of the highest calibre
Was just sharing this with someone. Thought I'd share it with you too, because it's still great: How I collected the complete short stories of F Scott Fitzgerald
