I’m not talking about how bad Coyle is, I’m aware he isn’t real, I’m talking about how those who obsessively worship him and disregard his whole villain aspect only to ALSO attack those who don’t like him, and ignoring that part of his character to make him digestible is wrong. Liking him in the way that erases the whole villain aspect of his character because it’s easier, too, should be pointed out.

Maybe having to mischaracterise a character to like them means you don’t really like them 🤷🏻‍♀️

If they have to ignore and disregard his backstory to like him, I don’t think they understand characterisation and shouldn’t be in a fandom like this that NEEDS you to view that characters in a raw and realistic way.

Also? Just because YOU haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

I’m aware a lot of outlasts fandom is teens, and they need to realise and educate themselves on media literacy and analysis of a character rather than “be into shit like that” and just because other villains exist doesn’t mean the complete mischaracterisation and surge in those who are not only grossly harassing others over, but largely making Coyle out to be some misunderstood angry closeted homosexual man instead of who he ACTUALLY is, doesn’t matter.

I’ve been in the outlast fandom for a decade I’m well aware of the freak shit that goes on and that it’s fictional and no one’s a good person, I have media literacy. You’re allowed to like you who like but you need to acknowledge ALL of it, not pick and choose.

But my issue IS they woobify COYLE specifically and completely disregard his past. I’ve seen people SHAME others for not liking Coyle or coming after others for posting Coyle fans DNI when it’s completely rational and expected to not want to interact with people who blatantly disregard his themes and issues. I LIKE Coyle, I said this in the tags but I’m still able to recognise his character and not call him daddy all over the internet and generally pretend his racist, homophobic, misogynistic, violent and horrific ect lore isn’t there. It’s what makes him an outlast character but it gets IGNORED so often to make him fuckable!!

I’ve not seen Franco or gooseberry fans do anything like this either.

He may be fictional but also his character/type of behaviour ect is still very much a reality in many states in the US in this political climate, so yes, it IS relevant to address and call out the inappropriate and gross behaviour of some of the fandom.
