I am so tempted to do this and if you know where I work no you don’t
So like i wanna dress full Victorian, right? Full on, maybe like 1880’s-90’s ish, right? But like, the entire outfit is black and white and I’m painted fully black and white and probably wearing actual boots under my dress so I can run away real fast, then wait for people illegally trespassing at night to piss themselves because holy fuck that’s a ghost
I mean it’s a pipe dream and I’d never actually be allowed to do it, but I’ve always wanted to. The last time I scared people off who were doing illegal things on the property I stood on a bridge t-posing and chanting in Latin, why not become the ghost of the woman the camp is named after? I mean it’s the wrong time period but no one is gonna know that, right? Obviously since I’m talking about a summer camp this would never fly, but man that would be fun
EDIT: actually I was bang on about 1890’s she was born in 1883 so she’d be camper age about then

Humans are not parasites on the world.
One thing that I think a lot of Environmentalists in America really overlook is that humans are supposed to be part of an ecosystem.  Humans are part of the food web; we fill an environmental niche, just as much as beavers and wolves do.
We are SUPPOSED to interact with the environment- the problem arises when we begin interacting with the environment in UNSUSTAINABLE ways. This idea that we should try to “return” the environment to the way it was “before” humans so so so often ignores the way that Indigenous people all over the world were (and are) an important part of their environments- and trying to “preserve” those places without people filling their ecological niche can cause harm in super weird ways.
You know how its shitty for deer populations if you take out all of the wolves? It’s just as bad if you stop all human hunting too. Humans hunting deer has been an important part of the food web for thousands and thousands of years! Deer populations NEED hunters- human, wolf, cougar- to stay healthy.
Yes- massive clear cutting of forests and strip mining is bad. HOWEVER, not allowing Indigenous people to practice traditional controlled burns of grass lands? Not only makes wildfires worse, but ALSO fucks up the bio-diversity of those grasslands. Totally unmanaged “pristine” grasslands without humans are actually less healthy than grasslands that are sustainably managed by people.
Mono-crop super farms are not good- but humans have been farming for thousands of years- tending for plants and increasing their yield, monitoring the soil, in ways that benefit those plants and the other animals that eat them, and the other plants that use that soil, and the insects that make their home there. Sustainable, diversified farming isn’t bad.
Laying out acres and acres of asphalt and oil pipelines? Bad. But digging natural cisterns in the dessert that catches rainwater for grazing animals to use? Benefits the entire ecosystem and all the animals in it.
We are part of the environment. We belong here. And the ecosystems that human beings evolved in and lived in need us just as much as we need them. We aren’t parasites on the planet, we are a part of it. It’s just that global capitalism has thrown us terribly out of balance.  Colonialism and profit-seeking are the problem- not human beings existing.
The goal of environmentalism should not be to protect nature by keeping humans totally separate from it, but rather to restore balance with our interactions with nature, for sustainable practices that help us coexist with the ecosystems that we are part of. That we have been a part of forever.  And that is hard with billions of people on the planet, yes, and we will need to be clever and resourceful and thoughtful to find ways of restoring that balance, it will take a lot of people working together to find those answers- but humans’ greatest trait has always been our cleverness and our ability to work together.

I’m still thinking of that post about the baby shark song that I just reblogged and honestly? yeah. the beauty of camp songs is 100% in how they differ depending on your home camp and who’s leading the song and stuff. and it’s GLORIOUS. I LOVE not knowing how my song’s gonna end.
Bill Grogan’s Goat. Does the goat die or get shipped off to slowly be tortured at a Girl Scout camp? God knows until we get there.
Will the littlest worm escape his fate by means of tiny scuba gear, or is he permadead?
When your song leader yells EARLY IN THE MOOOOOORNIN’ are you about to embark on the journey of a bird with a really long name, or are you going to yell about how Felix doesn’t like pits in his juice?
What are we thankful for in the Lollipop Grace? Chocolate? Raisins? Tacos?
What is Herman the worm even eating?
Princess Pat. Did she live in a tree or was she involved with a wide infantry? A first infantry?
What the ever loving chestnut do you sing when you’re introducing Running Bear?
How many things rhyme with “thunderation?”
Anyway camp songs are about questions and not knowing and assuming that probably someone will die by the end of it (but in like a fun way, with historic reasons for why so many songs involve death). And it’s glorious. And the commercialization of these songs would take them away and it’s why I have so much fun laughing at anything with Melinda Caroll.

maybe its bc i live in a place where forestry is one of the dominant industries but like tree planting rly isnt good. like the majority of the time its done by forestry companies to “offset” what they’ve cut down, and they almost always just plant fir & spruce monocrops and then they prevent the rest of the forest from naturally regenerating by spraying glyphosate, because they want to kill off the hardwoods that grow back since softwoods are worth more to the pulp industry… anything a company does that is supposedly “green” never is.
