he's assuming the other is talking about platypus themed sports and not his ODDLY colored pet.

" a little.... " he tinkers with the ball for a few seconds, holding it out and inspecting his handiwork before he nods proudly. shutting the slot he gently places the ball at the end of the platypus's tail.

" usually my brother and i play together, but he's off at debate camp. you get to be his stand in. you wanna be the PITCHER or the BATTER ? i'm good with either. "

"It's aright, accidents happen."

Mob pet the platypus idly, attention drawn to the cluster of wires and circuitry within the baseball. Huh. If he was being quite honest, he just imagined there were two big magnets in the baseball and glove.

He's never been the technology type though, so maybe the requirements to make it work are a bit more complicated than that.

"I wouldn't know, I don't think I've ever seen one before. Are they usually all like this?"

" a huuge deal. at least that's what my sister told me. " he offers the platypus another reassuring pet on his head before scooping him up. he cradles him with the utmost care as he speaks to the girl.

" i'm PHINEAS. and this is PERRY ! hope i'm the first to say welcome to danville. i dunno if it'll live up to gravity falls but i think our town has it's own charm too. "

"An excellent suggestion. Slow burn romance is a big deal nowadays." She's smiling-- she often did. It was rare for someone to match her energy so effortlessly. Waddles was hefted up for inspection, she seemed quite capable of lifting the heavy creature.

"I'm Mabel. This is Waddles. We just moved in down the street. I got him from Gravity Falls. It's a super weird town."

" yeah sure ! the more help the better ! oh i'm phineas by the way, and that's perry. "

he pointedly gestures to the image on his phone again, before tucking it back into his pocket. he wasn't all that worried about perry being lost, not yet anyway.

a curious head turns at the flash of a bright light, it finally dawns on him that he's in a completely new and otherworldly place. blue eyes widen with wonder, stepping out into the street, and glancing all around his surroundings.

" whoa ! where AM i ? i just thought that door was a teleporter but this this is a whole other WOLRD ! "

"A platypus, huh?" 

Crouching down to be more level with the kid, mismatched eyes scan over the pulled up photo with an amused grin. When was the last time she'd seen one of those weirdos? She's pretty sure they got banished out of the Isles ages ago.

This is what she gets for leaving that dang door unlocked.

"Can't say I saw him. Would've noticed something like that... but, if he came through my door, I think it's only fair if I help you find him." Besides, she's not letting another human kid loose on the Isles. She's still cleaning up Luz's messes. "If you want the help, that is?"

this might be a hot take but i'll never understand the point of writing a child muse and aging them up to 18 and then only writing them as that age

ever so diligent hands cease in movement, clutching the large vial full of lithium with a vice grip. other than that, he hardly flinches at the sudden invading voice. what can he say, he's used to people inviting themselves over at this point. heck ! he WELCOMES it !

" hi ! just making a HOMEMADE battery for our large pogo stick that'll take us to the moon. "

he glances beside his shoulder at the girl, there's little to no acknowledgment on the girl's idle floating. all he can offer is a brief glance to her shadow in the grass before he glance back up at her. offering a welcoming smile.

" ha ! yeah. i get that A LOT. " he carefully places the glass down onto the counter, eyes scan the surface for his burner. after a few seconds, he shakes his head, thinking it best he give their new guest all his attention for time being. " i don't think i've seen you around before, i'm phineas ! "

" what'cha working on there ? " a coy , cat - like grin is curled across the girl's features as she leeeeaans to regard the boy's fixation , her eyes bright with curiosity . glitch's presence begets explanation , but she'll never motion to offer so much as a word of it unprompted .

there's a noted distortion of her voice ; it wavers and stutters erratically as she speaks again , hovering over phineas' shoulder as she hangs suspended in the air in a casual defiance of gravity's grip .

" you're , like , my age . probably a little young to be getting your hands on materials like these ! heehee . " ( there's something knowing behind the benign sentiment - unsettlingly meaningful , as if she's making a joke for somebody else's benefit rather than his . )
