Tango - "Spellbound" DJ-Kicks by Kruder & Dorfmeister 1996 Atmospheric Drum n Bass

Chilly piece of dnb from one of the most revered DJ mixes of all time, Austrian duo Kruder & Dorfmeister's installment in German label !k7's consistently terrific DJ-Kicks series. Tango was a UK veteran of drum-break-based music of many stripes, originating with breakbeat hardcore, then jungle, and then dnb, and here he gives us a sweet package of smooth and mellow cocktail lounge jazziness, in which his drum n bass elements serve as accompaniment to the blended keys, brass, strings, and rest of the package, rather than taking center-stage. Of note, though, is the fact that the main drum here is a hand-drum, thus lending this luxuriant groove an extra touch of intimacy too.
