it bothers me much that neither adaptation of City of Bones included the scene of Simon defeating Abbadon because it's so incredibly pivotal to his character. it marks the shift away from the depicted of this guy who's so obviously out of his depth in this world, a burden who can't cope and gets himself in helpless situations like where he's a rat and kidnapped by vampires. the Lightwoods are dismissive of him right up until this moment, where Simon proves he is capable of adapting to their world and that he is an asset. he succeeds where they fails and saves all their lives, through both cleverness (realising breaking the skylight will injure the demon) and athleticism (being able to use Alec's bow to effectively execute his plan). it's also the moment where the illusion of the shadowhunters is broken a bit, like they aren't always fearless and capable to face any threat — they are not invincible! its so important on so many levels to everything that happens later!

....and the show doesn't even attempt to adapt it and the movie changes it so Simon whacks Dorothea with a shovel and Jace kills her instead 🙃

Reminder that Clace's devotion to each other was so strong that jace's goodness and mercy for the world was FOR CLARY.

Jace was jace herondale but without her he'd be jace morgenstern.

In contrary to popular belief, I actually really love the small filler moments between the Crows, in which they are all sitting and just talking to each other. Discussing things, planning things. Because these are the moments that show how human they are, how they are just like you and me. We see them debating. We see them joking around with each other as well every now and then. We see them slumping against a chair, drawing circles on the table with their finger, mussing their disheveled hair and drinking coffee. When they aren't being dangerous crime lords getting involved in some intense action, but just people. Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom prove that filler moments aren't always boring when the characters involved are highly intriguing and their shared dialogue is also a joy to read. It's why I really cherished that one scene in the show during the second episode of the second season, when Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Nina and Wylan were all seated at a table in that breakfast shop and just talking about things. It meant a lot to me and I wanted more of them.

AN: This is my first time writing on Tumblr, I don't even know if I'm doing this right. But I got this idea all of a sudden and I just had to write it. Hope you enjoy! :)

Type: One-shot

Pairing(s): Grayson Hawthorne x Lyra Kane

Warning(s): Nothing much, Grayson being overprotective, Lyra being a badass queen

Lyra didn’t need a caretaker. She wasn’t a child. And yet, that seemed to be the exact role that Grayson Hawthorne was playing.

“You are aware that the surface you’re sitting on is highly flammable, yes?” Came his arrogant voice from behind her.

“I would hope so. Otherwise I’d be putting my third grade Science teacher to shame,” Lyra replied, not taking her eyes off the folded piece of paper in her hands.

She heard his footsteps come to a stop. Then he spoke again. “And you know that the paper you are holding will burst into flames in a second upon opening it, I assume?”

“Yes.” She looked up at him. He was standing beside the wooden bench she was sitting on, wearing a suit, as usual. His hands were in his pockets and his expression was one of disapproval. Lyra didn’t give a damn about his approval, though. Not when she was this close to the next clue.

She gestured to the small pond in front of her. “As you can see, there’s water.” She didn’t think she needed to provide any further explanation.

Grayson merely looked at her. He was examining her, trying to figure her out. He often looked at her like that. Lyra didn’t know why.

Since he wasn’t saying anything, Lyra turned her attention back to the paper. Taking a deep breath, she opened it. She only had a second to run her eyes over the words before the paper caught fire. Quickly, she tossed it into the water and stood up.

“The cliffs,” Lyra said, thinking out loud. Her mind was running as fast as she did on her daily runs. “Of course. That’s where it is. The cliffs.”

She turned to leave but was stopped by a firm hand grabbing her elbow. She glanced back. Grayson. He was still there. If he looked disapproving before, it was nothing compared to what he looked like now.

“No,” he said. Just “no”. Only a simple word, yet spoken with so much power.

“I don’t think your Heiress would appreciate you stopping a player from playing the Game,” Lyra snapped. She did not have time for this.

“You need to stop doing such reckless things,” Grayson told her.

“I thought I made it clear,” Lyra said through gritted teeth, “that I don’t need your protection.”

“And I thought it was clear that your safety is my responsibility,” Grayson replied in an even voice.

He was calm even when he was angry. That infuriated her even more.

“There’s an eighty-year-old woman in this game. And your two sisters. I think they need your protection more than I do,” Lyra told him.

She saw the muscles in his face tighten, and felt a little satisfaction. She had always been good at making people mad. Apparently that was a talent she shared with the man standing in front of her, because she had never met anyone more infuriating than him.

For a while, neither of them said anything. They just glared at each other. A wordless challenge. Pale eyes on dark ones. Silver on brown.

Finally, Grayson loosened his grip. Lyra jerked her arm away. Giving him one last dirty look, she turned and walked away.

She barely made five steps before she heard him again. “Ms. Kane.”

Lyra stopped. She didn’t want to, but it was almost like his voice had an unwanted effect on her.

“I would appreciate it if you tried to keep yourself safe,” Grayson said.

Lyra processed the words for a moment. Then she turned, puzzled, but he was already gone.

Was she mistaken or had she heard concern in his voice? No. That wasn’t possible. Grayson Hawthorne would never let an ounce of emotion escape.

But she was sure she hadn’t mistaken his tone. For the first time, Grayson Hawthorne hadn’t sounded commanding. He wasn’t issuing an order. It sounded more like a… request.
