hey guys! i know i'm a bit late on this sketch topic but better late than never, right?

anyway, here you see a drawing i did when i was nine years old on the top and my quick re-draw on the bottom. i really liked drawing girls in cool clothes and fancy dresses, many of my characters resembling either a disney princess or the olsen twins. i also wrote some short stories to go along with these drawings, but we won't get into that.

this is my OC Blank the Wolf he is 16 years old and bisexual he likes piercings and shiny objects he wears a gray hoodie he likes zippers running and kissing boy wolfs even though sometimes he thinks about girls wolfs but hes really confused about that he has a really cool earing on the top of his ear like the one my mom wont let me get and big gloves his favorite food is macaroni and cheese and he likes to hang out with Knuckles the Echidna they are best friends and sometimes they kiss each other its really weird XD um Blank also has a little sister her name is Chibi and he likes to torture her he has a voodoo doll that he pokes sometimes that looks like her his favorite tv shows are naruto death note and bleach

Zack here with my truly, truly awful OC. This is an excerpt from an actual sketchbook of mine from about 9 years ago (God does that make me feel old) and I don't have the heart to throw it out.

Like almost anybody in Jr. High I spent most of 7th grade being addicted to anime, manga, video games and making tons of characters in the same style. This particular character doesn't have a name or anything, but he's basically a rip-off of Tidus from Final Fantasy X, Cloud from Final Fantasy VII, and a little bit of Trunks from DBZ and some others. I probably tried to convince myself that it was super, super original though. Re-making this with my current artistic tools was a super fun project. It's really cool to see how different you do things than how you used to. Highly recommended for our other artist friends out there to try out.

So yeah, if you ever wanted to know what my art looked like when I was 13, here you go!

Super Cool Sketchblog is BACK! This weeks' theme is "Awful OCs". BACK IN MY DAY "OC" wasn't a term that anyone used. I never really understood its purpose, but I'm thinking that maybe now on an internet FILLED with fanart an "original character" is a rarity and needs its own name to differentiate from the sea of homestuck and adventure time drawings. I think the term "OC" is a phrase that mostly inexperienced artists use, or maybe at least artists who don't take themselves seriously, which leaves a ton of room for really really awful art. I'm not saying I'm not guilty of doing it myself, though. 12 year old anime-obsessed Johnman drew plenty of enormous sparkly eyeballs and gravity defying multicolored hair, and that's what this week is all about! The challenge is to create a terrible OC and draw it as a super inexperienced/young artist would, and then draw it with all of your current skills. HAVE FUN!

JOHN HERE! WHEW! Okay, so my favorite thing about winter is SNOW, and I was thinking about how to draw snow, so I thought of drawing a snowman...BUT THEN IT HIT ME! I decided to draw the scene between Fozzy and the snowman in A Muppet Family Christmas, MY FAVORITE MUPPET MOVIE EVER where they're outside singing together :D They never actually both say "wakka wakka" but it's not too far of a stretch. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

(*edit* Here's a clip of the scene! Also I have no idea if that's how you spell wakka wakka. Is it wocka? Is it wacka? Is it 3 instead of 2? Should I have looked that up before I made this? Does it matter?)

Almost forgot it was my day today!

Did a quick little ink sketch in my Moleskine! Well, my favorite thing about winter is all of the holiday movies/specials. I really, really, really love themed sitcom episodes and Christmas classics like Home Alone, A Muppet's Christmas Carol, Charlie Brown, etc.

I've never actually seen a full episode of Sailor Moon, but I think I remember Tuxedo Mask throwing roses around and stuff? And wasn't Sailor Moon all dopey in love for him? Zack here, and I'm picking Anime as the theme for this week! I've been knee-deep in the ol' Japanimation lately (got Outlaw Star and Big-O on dvd and bought a Perfect Grade Gundam model) so I've got this stuff on the brain! Pick an anime character and draw your (pork) buns off!

To be clear, do NOT draw in anime style- take the character and make it how you'd normally draw anything!
