Book review: Bride by Ali Hazelwood
Rating: 4⭐️
I was not expecting to enjoy the book as much as I did. I was so used to STEM romances from Ali that I didn’t know how to react to this release. And I’m so glad I was wrong.
I really liked their relationship, their growth; the world building, it’s dramas and rules. It caught my interest. And since I don’t read much werewolf/vampire stories, I was surprised with something at the end… new knowledge achieve 😂
And the possibility of another book in this world makes me craving for it. I can’t wait!

Book review: An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
Ratings:
An Ember In The Ashes: 4⭐️
A Torch Against The Night: 4⭐️
A Reaper At The Gates: 4⭐️
A Sky Beyond The Storm: 4,5⭐️
My chest hurts. It took me so long to read this series, but not in a bad way. I enjoyed the story a lot. I laughed, smiled and cried with these books. My chest hurts. I know that the story continues with the new book called Heir. But it’s not the same. My chest hurts. I fell in love with Laia and Elias, their companionship, friendship and then relationship; my heart broke with Helene, for every trial and error, for her love. My chest hurts. Even though I understood Meherya and Keris, I couldn’t connect with them. Although I thought they were great characters. My chest hurts with the end - finality - of this story, and now I need to treat this book-hangover.
Also, it’s really unfair that I just bought these editions and now there are new ones of 10 years anniversary with a beautiful design and illustrations. 🥲
“Curse this world for what it does to the mothers, for what it does to the daughters. Curse it for making us strong through loss and pain, our hearts torn from our chests again and again. Curse it for forcing us to endure.”

Book review: King of Sloth by Ana Huang
Rating: 4⭐️
Finally, one book from these series that didn’t disappoint. Yes, as you know, somehow I’ve been putting some hopes for these series and they weren’t met. I was hoping for the last two books to be written in certain way or better explored and they weren’t. However, this book saved it.
The pace, the story, the relationship, the tension, the banter was a crescendo. It had time to flourish and it was a beautiful to read.
"Life ebbs and flows, and there's always room for change. Humans have the capacity for growth until they leave this earth, so never feel like it's too late for you to take another road if you're unhappy with the one you're traveling."
"Perhaps that was why I rarely went on vacation. It lulled us into a false sense of security only to thrust us back into our regular lives, where we were confronted with a world that kept spinning without us and the realisation that our presence didn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things."

Book review: The Selection trilogy by Kiera Cass
Rating: 4⭐️
I re-read some of my favourite trilogy from my young adulthood and I won’t lie, I giggled all over again. I really like the story, I almost know it by heart ahahah.
Of course, as an adult, I wanted to slap America so many times but nonetheless, I enjoyed it.
Art by @mellendraws
The Selection quotes:
“True love is usually the most inconvenient kind.”
“It’s always the fear of looking stupid that stops you from being awesome.”
The Elite quotes:
“You know that you’ve found something amazing, and you want to hold on to it forever; and every second after you have it, you fear the moment you might lose it.”
“It wasn’t like I made his world better. It was like I was his world. It wasn’t some explosion; it wasn’t fireworks. It was a fire, burning slowly from the inside out.”
“It’s the most wonderful and terrible thing that can ever happen to you,” she said simply. “You know that you’ve found something amazing, and you want to hold on to it forever; and every second after you have it, you fear the moment you might lose it.” I sighed softly. She was absolutely right. Love was beautiful fear.”
The one quotes:
“Break my heart. Break it a thousand times if you like. It was only ever yours to break anyway.”
“The best people all have some kind of scar.”
“I’ll love you until my very last breath. Every beat of my heart is yours. I don’t want to die without you knowing that.”

Book review: The Paradox Hotel by Rob Hart
Rating: 4⭐️
I liked the book. I liked January and her bitchy personality and humor. And the story’s theme was interesting: an investigation about a murder in a time travel hotel.
The way it was written was great: we follow January everywhere, we know what she’s thinking and seeing; we get lost alongside her when she slips, and we understand that that’s on purpose. It’s there to make us feel disoriented, and I liked that touch. Sure, for some people it’s not a great plus for the book that you can get lost a lot, but I just think that it made it more intriguing, and it made sense with the story.
I liked that we were in a time travel hotel and had some funny events unroll (not for the characters though ahahah), and also that there were some politics involved as well. Which I think could have been more explored.
I liked the fact that at the bottom of it, this book was about a girl fighting her grief and trying to save her home; fighting her pain and trying to find some peace.
The ending was not very explicit, so I believe we have some questions left to be answered. But I think that not having the classic monologue makes us feel more compelled by the story, more intrigued.

Book review: Bromance Book Club series by Lyssa Kay Adams
Rating:
The Bromance Book Club: 3⭐️
Undercover Bromance: 3⭐️
Crazy Stupid Bromance: 3⭐️
Isn’t it Bromantic?: 3⭐️
A Very Merry Bromance: 4⭐️
These books made me laugh so much: the concept of the bromance book club, the group dynamics, their relationships.
Even though they made me laugh, the stories themselves were just ok. I wish they weren’t so repetitive, or that sometimes the men weren’t the ones in the wrong at the end, because in my opinion sometimes it was the women’s fault.
My favourite book was the last one, even though I was hyped for the Russian’s story, but it was a big let down for me.

Book review: Powerless by Lauren Roberts
Rating: 4,5⭐️
Hunger games with powers. Nice.
The romance was so very cute 🥰 typical YA, which I don’t mind it. The tension was great. The ending wassss goooooooooooood. I enjoyed the book so much, the writing, the plot… I just liked it so. And now , I need the second book!!!!!
I actually fell in love before reading the book, with this quote:
“What’s your favourite color?" I spin her if only to give myself some time to think. I'd never thought about what my favorite color was before. It never seemed important. Not until I looked into a pair of ocean blue eyes and realized that perhaps drowning was a beautiful thing. Not until I looked into a pair of fiery blue eyes and realized that perhaps burning was a painless thing. Not until I looked into a pair of sky blue eyes and realized that perhaps falling was a peaceful thing. I'd never thought about what my favorite color was before because I hadn't seen one that was worthy of the title. Until now, that is. "Blue," I say, my voice low.”
I hope this convince you as well to read it eheheh

Manga review: The Girl from the Other Side vol.1-3 by Nagabe
Rating Vol.1-3: 3⭐️
“The Girl From the Other Side”’s story was okay for me. I only read the first three volumes and it was missing something for me. But I’ll persist until I understand this world. However, the characters and design were so fucking cute!!!!

Book review: Happy Place by Emily Henry
Rating: 5⭐️
Currently, I'm in a reader mood, and somehow this book hit just the spot. I don't read the synopsis anymore, and had no expectations, but every time I read Emily's books they turn out good.
What the couple was dealing with, the issues around the friendships, was something I felt deep in my heart. I related too much with the story and the characters. And that's what I've been noticing with Emily's books. The stories feel real, tangible to everyone's lives. And yeah sure sometimes the characters can be annoying (not that I felt that in this story, just in general) but hey, we are annoying sometimes, and we are stupid. And that's how it feels with these books. The romance wasn't over the top, it wasn't about smut, it was about the connection between the MC. And It felt real.
Simply put, this is my favourite book this year so far, and my favorite book from Emily.
And tbh I'm not trying to hype this book too much, instead I'm giving my humble opinion.
Some quotes:
“Just promise," I say, "we'll end things before we ever let them get like that." Hurt flashes across his face. I want to take it back, but I don't. This is all I can give him, all I can give myself: some tiny measure of protection. The only way I can bear loving anyone this much is knowing it will never turn to poison. Knowing we'll give each other up before we can destroy each other.”
“He’s become my best friend the way the others did: bit by bit, sand passing through an hourglass so slowly it’s impossible to pin down the moment it happens. When suddenly more of my heart belongs to him than doesn’t, and I know I’ll never get a single grain back.”
“Everything is changing. It has to. You can’t stop time. All you can do is point yourself in a direction and hope the wind will let you get there."
"I don’t need you to stay the same, Cleo," I say. "And it’s not ‘having things in common’ that makes me love you. We’re so different, Clee. All of us. And I wouldn’t change anything about you. Like I said, you are a missing piece of my heart, and Sabrina is too.(...)"

Book review: Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
Rating: 4⭐️
Howl’s moving castle is one of my favourite movies of all time. And now I read this, a source of inspiration for Miyazaki’s work. Of course, it’s different, and I don’t mind it. The movie has more war elements attached to it, while in the book it was just mentioned; Howl in the book is a drama queen, while in the movie we idolise him as our future husband ahahah; I loved both of Sophie’s versions, she’s such a boss lady; and I liked how in the book we have more connections with her family. I wish that at the end it wasn’t so rushed and we had a bit more of romance.

The design and the story was cute but the book didn’t click for me.
The way the story was told wasn’t the way I expected and didn’t grab me.
Overall ok. But just that.

Book review: Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Rating: 4⭐️
Different sisters, different values/morals, different romance stories. Even though this happens in the 18th/19th century, it’s funny how some things never change into the modern era. What people look for in a partner.
P&P is one of my favourite books and subconsciously I hoped I felt the same thing for this book. I didn’t. However, this book felt like a rollercoaster tbh. I thought it was going to end badly… and then I gasped (literally) at the end. Ahahaha All in all, a good read and I discovered there are the BBC series, so in the future I’ll binge watch them.

Book review: Strictly Not Yours by Carrie Elks
Rating: 4,5⭐️
I loved them, I was laughing and clinging to the story like I was in the second book. It was the “drama” at the end that downgraded my feelings I guess. And I know I shouldn’t be comparing but when you have a favourite it’s difficult not to compare.
Anyway, I’ll be here patiently waiting for the next one cause I’m addicted to the Salinger’s family. LOOK AT WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO ME CARRIEEEEEE!! Jk

Book review: Wildfire by Hannah Grace

Rating: 5⭐️
Hannah’s books makes me laugh. I really like the relationships between the characters with their friends. It’s hella funny. I’m always laughing in these books.
I also was hesitant to read this book and I’m glad my expectations were low because I believe I enjoyed the book more than I’d have.
And I guess the male MC resembles to me and I felt a bit represented.
“To happy endings and unlimited pets.”
Amen ❤️

It was what I needed when I read it. I was in one of those moods. However, something is missing for me, I don’t know what it is.

Book review: The Tale of Shikanoko by Lian Hearn

Rating:
Emperor of the Eight Islands: 3,5⭐️
Autumn Daughter, Dragon Child: 4⭐️
Lord of the Darkwood: 3⭐️
The Tengu’s Game of Go: 3⭐️
Easy reading. Interesting world building and weird magic. A typical Asian-literature-narrative style. A lot is happening and you fell into the story out of nowhere.
I bought these books out of nowhere too. I was at Lucy Score’s fan sign in Lisbon, when the book’s spine caught my eyes. The cover designs were amazing and the price also encouraged me to buy it.
Unfortunately, in the first book, due to the fast pace of the story and complexity, I didn’t connect with it. But then in the second book, I suffered. The last two books somehow the magic of the story slowly died for me.
Overall the story plot was interesting but I believe the writing style didn’t help me enjoy more the books. Or perhaps was the way the author wanted to incorporate Japanese culture mixed with a lot of fantasy and it didn’t come out well.
I recommend reading the books one after the other to not get lost in it.
