Character Previews
With some challenges out of the way, it’s time for another character preview! This one is for a canon character on site, and one who’s in a position to interact with just about everyone! Continue below the Read More for a snippet of his application.
One Job
You had never intended to work for the government or any subsidiary of it, such as the United Nations. It rarely ended well for you, and the last time a similar project had been approached, you had merely been placed as a figure head to sooth those who were pro-abnormal among the employees and higher ups. You doubted that this 'ISIT' would be any different and so, at the first offer, you declined. You kept an eye on them, ready to tear them down like you hadn't done quickly enough with SCIU, but they held true to their course.
When Lilian asked a second time, you still said no. She could see you starting to waver, though, and rather than fill the position, she waited you out. Within two weeks, she asked again. No. Two weeks, again, no. The third time should have been the charm, but you were stubborn; it took a fourth request to get you to resign yourself to the position. You expected to be met with a whole host of regulations and checks intended to keep you in your place and keep them in full control, but you did not find it. Instead, you found yourself given more freedom than any employer had ever dared offer someone as bright as you.
You clamped down on the bit and ran with it.
The Taskforce has flourished over the years you've been in charge, and its rather a point of pride if you're to be honest. You are strict with your employees, insisting on being in the interview process for each and every one to ensure they meet your high standards (which, really, are just you trying to ensure they're here for the right reasons; you could care less about their other qualifications). It leads to long days, longer nights, and very little chance for rest, but as much as you complain, you wouldn't have it any other way.

Character Challenge Closed!
Also closed is our character challenge! Unfortunately we didn’t get many entries - and only staff entries. As such, we’re going to opt to not hand out the first and second place awards, only the participation awards. We want our first features to be character members and want ads on site, if at all possible!

Introduction Challenge Closed!
Thanks for sending in your introductions; everyone who has posted one will have gotten the link to the site by now. If you still want the link before we officially open on the 16th, though, you can still join our discord and introduce yourself there!

Character Previews
So, we’ve leaked all the main information for the site at this point, from required reads (like the rules and member groups) to the world-building non-essentials (like the institutions that you don’t technically have to interact with). We’ve reached soft open, which is running more like a beta than anything. But the full opening is still a week away, and we figured.... why not leak more site content that’s being generated? So, we’re going to do our very best to get you a snapshot of applications, shippers, and so on every day or two until next Thursday when you can see it all yourself!
(Or, you know, you could join the soft open and see it now. Just saying.)
Continue on past the Read More for a snippet from a freeform application!
something borrowed,
When you walked down the aisle, you came prepared with all the various wedding traditions. After everything that had happened, you needed this to be good and right. You needed this to stick. So you loaded yourself up with everything you could find:
A sugar cube in your glove, even though all you wanted to do was take it out and eat it from the stress.
Six pence in your shoe, even though it kept floating to the toe and stubbing with every step.
Bells attached to your bouquets, in an effort to keep bad spirits away (because there were a lot that seemed to follow you around after Old City).
You did not see your to-be-husband beforehand, even though he tried effortlessly to make this happen because he wanted to kiss you good morning.
You made him pinky-promise to carry you across the threshold after, because that would keep even more evil away. He laughed at you for this, but pinky-promises were always serious for you.
You prayed for rain on your wedding day, hoping it would cleanse the darkness, and you jumped for joy, nearly breaking your delicate high heels when you heard the thunder crack even from the depths of building you were sequestered in, with your bridesmaids getting you ready.
You even followed the old adage: something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new. It hadn't all been easy to come by, honestly. You sort of fell a little short, in the end. You figured, these days, your carefree smile of your youth (or, well, younger days — you were still barely nineteen) was so hard to come by that the way you grinned and flitted about, that had to count. You were borrowing something from you.
You should have known it wouldn't.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves.

Lux here, just letting you all know that, although we are in soft open, we’ve been hard at work getting our own characters set up and we’ve already got a couple ready! There’s a new tab available for development in the profile (code storage, pictured above), there’s a wanted ad already (which is summarized after the Read More, if you’re interested), and we are still accepting members into the soft open! Just make sure to join our discord and use the #introduction channel or post for the introduction challenge and we’ll send a link to you as quick as we can!
Speaking of that wanted ad- consider this a little teaser! More will come as we lead up to the grand opening, content-creation permitting! Our first wanted ad is for...
The Zodiac Crew
The Zodiac crew are a relatively small group of some of the best professionals in Old City. It is, however, important to keep in mind that they aren't professionals in the sense of things like carpentry or research. Rather, they hone skills useful to either criminals or law enforcement. There were fourteen individuals, initially, but they are currently at a count of thirteen after one member was left excluded. They often refer to each other by their Zodiac position, rather than their real names. Many might not even know the real names of their coworkers.
Although they are primarily a group of, essentially, criminal experts, the Zodiac crew are not aimless bad guys. In fact, without being hired for a job, they don't often do more than hone their skills by practicing on each other. However, if hired for a job, you can rest assured that they will not stop until the goal has been met. They will provide their services to whoever pays more, whether that be a philanthropic rich man just looking to put some criminals in jail or the head of a criminal gang, and they will always complete their job if they take it - unless given an offer of more money from the opposite side. The individual members, however, are allowed to take on their own jobs on the side, so long as it doesn't interfere with any they may be handed as a Zodiac member.
Please note that all Zodiac members are at least part abnormal and show abilities from their abnormal genes.
Faces and genders are completed open and currently available positions in the Zodiac are:
The Emperor/Empress: “the leader”, 30-40
The Rat: “the thief”, 25-30
The Ox: “the warrior”, 30+
The Tiger: “the assassin”, 25-35
The Rabbit: “the lover”, 23-28
The Dragon: “the hacker”, 20-25
The Snake: “the watcher”, 35+
The Sheep: “the forger”, 25-40
The Monkey: “the scholar”, 35+
The Rooster: “the charmer”, 30+
The Dog: “the guardian”, 25-30
The Pig: “the accountant”, 35+
Interested in any of them? Want more information or to reserve/take one of the members? Get in on the soft open!

Character Challenge
It’s also time for a new challenge to start - a character challenge! The point of this one is to get you starting to think about the characters you’re going to be bringing on-site. That said, don’t worry too much - the introduction challenge is still ongoing! I highly recommend you use that to your advantage as the introduction challenge is the only way to get into the soft opening.
This challenge comes with a different prize: the winners, as judged by both staff, will get the first feature spots on site. We have two of these in the site header and they’re set to change every two weeks. Moving forward from the site’s opening, they’ll be able to be characters, members, or wanted ads as recommended by members and they change on an offset schedule: the first will change only on weeks the second does (e.g., one will change the 23rd, the next will change the 30th). As such, first place in this challenge gets until two weeks after the grand opening (the 30th), while second place gets until one week after (the 23rd). Features come with a special badge for your account as well as some bonus credits for the featured character. This rings true to the challenge as well. Again, moving forward, members who recommend features also get a special credit bonus, as an incentive for participating in the site community.
Additionally, all participants in this challenge will get a badge on-site for the characters they introduce this way (just let us know if the name changes!) and also a small bonus of 100 credits!
Now, what, exactly, do you have to do for this character challenge? It’s easy! We’ve made a little checklist below for you, and you’re welcome to touch on those point in any format and any order you prefer. You can include more information if you want - this list is the minimum only! Just make sure to tag the challenge for #survivorguiltrp so we can find it! If we haven’t reblogged it to here within 24 hours, please contact via message or ask as the tag has been a little wonky on desktop and isn’t showing things (thanks Tumblr).
Also remember that we won’t ding you if any of this information changes later. Character development takes time and we don’t mind! We just want to start getting an idea of who might be making an appearance!
Requirements
At least one picture of your character
Name (first and last)
Age
Pronouns
Species
Career
Preferred Face Claim
Three fun facts (can be literally anything - some personality traits, key points in their history, relatable lyrics/sayings, pictures of their pets… you name it, it counts!)
This challenge ends January 5, 2020 at 11:59 pm EST (GMT - 5).

25 · she/her · quinterran · barista · alina kovalenko
Huge believer in family and is very close to hers… but has told them nothing about how her life has fallen apart or why.
Wanted to be a professional dancer, but Shit Happened ™ and is now stuck serving coffee
Makes compulsive bad decisions that she keeps thinking will work out, but they don’t, and it’s a bit of a problem.
First generation surface-dweller; has visited Praxis as a child, but didn’t care for the damp and the dark, so didn’t go back even after her family did.
