El Salvador: where WiFi is like bottomless mimosas
[searching for...] the Internet, at El Salvador International Aiport
Cars before the Roaring Twenties. TV before 1960s. Internet before… 1990s?
Luxury.
Apparently, internet still IS a luxury in some countries, like El Salvador where I had a looong 8-hours stopover on my way to Lima.
8 hours – officially, a day of work. And since the Department of State warned me that "crime and violence levels in El Salvador remain critically high”, I decided to chill at the airport and finish all the work leftovers before the Christmas and New Year’s oblivion.
WiFi! I marched to a coffee place with the same name as the only promising network that my phone had detected. But the only connection I got was a human one – an apologetic look from a lovely barista: she didn’t know / remember the password. (Dang! It’s like owning a goldfish without any wishes to ask).
After cruising the airport for good 20 min I finally found it – all you can eat for just $5.
So I enjoyed it with my coffee, almost like a sandwich, or brunch mimosas because that’s the way it was – bottomless.
It’s funny how quickly we get used to good things in life, juggling them from a luxury to a mass pocket at the speed of light.
BOTTOM(les)S UP to appreciation!

[searching for...] a spice-up-your-bus-ride, on the way from Lima to Arequipa in Peru
They film you, feed you and entertain you!
Have you ever been filmed on a bus? Me neither! Until I took a public bus from Nazca to Arequipa in Peru.
When I asked why, the bus attendant (are they even called like this?) casually explained “Just for security reasons - in case the bus gets attacked so we can identify who’s gone missing”. Encouraging, I thought.
And then BINGO! Another bus attendant (sticking to this name for consistency) showed up and offered everyone to play… a bingo game. Sadly, I didn’t win but the entire experience of ~50 people marking numbers on a bus in the middle of the night totally made it up for a 10 hour trip.
Oh, and they give you Old England ;)

Peru Food Orgasms: Not Your Typical Kebab
[searching for...] THE perfect kebab, in Lima, Peru
Cevice. Pollo a la brasa. Lomo saltado.
If this what you think traditional Peruvian cuisine is all about, forget it! I did the same mistake going for a traditional Peruvian meal on my first night in Lima.
Bull hearts kebab, stomach, kidneys – anticuchos de corazón de res, rachi, mollejitas.
Yes – INTESTINES! As traditional as Peruvian cuisine gets. I was skeptical about those “delights” the same way I’d be skeptical about Russian “democracy". BUT don’t be thrown off by your visual associations – these bad boys are orgasmically delicious!
Tumblr media
Another theory about this food tradition blames Spanish conquistadors (who else?!) who used to dismiss all kinds of offal. And that’s how Incas and slaves that Spaniards had brought from Africa ended up with anticuchos and organs alike.
Whichever theory you decide to embrace, please give it a try! Best with aji – a spicy pepper sauce (Incas used to call it uchu) that will set you on fire, in a delicious way!
Oh, and finish with some traditional dessert – picarones (or Peruvian doughnuts if you will) that are to anticuchos as ceviche is to pisco sour ;)
Tumblr media
Bon appétit!

People and Experiences
Folks around the table went… Nutella. Yoga. Walking in the rain. Drawing. Delicious burrito. Monocle magazine. My dog. Music. … We were talking about our favorite things in life.
“People and experiences” – I said. The answer immediately got me a red card as the most vague and broad. Yes, I was called a cheater, no less.
Some people believe in karma, others in long walks on the beach. I’m a true believer in people and experiences.
Tumblr media
These (and myriads more incredible things in life) are experiences. We just have a choice to breathe them in as the freshest sip of air, or leave unnoticed. And in my world the latter just doesn’t have the right to happen.
Yes, I’m probably a cheater who couldn’t or didn’t want to pick just one thing to write about. That doesn’t change my religion though – creating and appreciating those moments of happiness, joy, surprise, sadness, frustration, adrenaline – with people you like, love, care about, just met, feel excited about.
Let’s just get out of that office chair or a coach and explore! And In Search of A Pink Unicorn is my exploration journey.
My trip to Peru comes in handy and will be a test battlefield for this blog.
There will be pictures, videos, lots of them, AHA moments, confessions, food orgasms, dramas (who doesn’t like them?!), fireworks and many more snackable discoveries. Every day.
Without further due let’s go burn some rubber!
P.S. Oh, and Places made it to the blog’s title because People and Experiences have to happen somewhere ;)
