hurt locker just wouldn’t leave minhee’s head, even as mi amor blared through her airpods en route to suwei’s -- to lucid’s, rather. she wasn’t sure what the rooming arrangements were for lucid’s members, but minhee was hoping that suwei was stuck with alice or jeonghwa, mostly because she figured they were the least likely to care, and most likely to welcome, a stray senior idol passing out on their floor in the middle of the night.

“hey!” she called back, jogging the last few steps down the corridor to lucid’s front door and suwei in front of it. she shook her tote bag, noiseless thanks to its soft contents. “yeah, i did!” as she walked backwards through the door, minhee tugged the short, blue sleeve of her cozy pajama button-up out of the top of the bag. “look, they’ve got bananas on them. cute, right?” she haphazardly kicked off her shoes, and took a long look at the entryway of lucid’s dorms. it was an oddly nostalgic setting to be in. she whipped her head around, turning back to suwei with a smile. “so, which one’s your room?”

suwei buzzed with excitement as she waited for minhee outside the lucid dorm. she wasn’t sure when she texted her this afternoon if she’d be able to make it. as idols schedules could be busy and sometimes there was no time for relaxation. she wasn’t lucky tonight but not everyone was. so when minhee texted her back telling her she was coming she finished prepping the living room. when everything was done she went outside so she could wait.

when she saw minhee approach she smiled back as the older woman approached her. she watched as minhee shook the content of the bags she asked her to bring. it would be hard to have a slumber party with out pajamas to sleep in. she opened the door before turning around to look at the blue bottoms sticking out of minhee’s bag. “yes. they fit you.” she closed the door allowing minhee to kick off her shoes before walking into the living room. “that way.” she said pointing down the hall. “second room on the right. i room with jeonghwa. if you want we can sleep in my room or out here. i have an air mattress set up.”

Adolescence is a confusing time for everyone. There’s a constant influx of new hormones racing through the body that influence both mental and physical changes, and sadly, Rioh hasn’t quite learned how best to navigate all of it. There are many times where he wishes he was a kid again—even though others would argue that he’s still very much a kid even now. He misses the lack of responsibility; the carefree nature that he once had. Now, it seems like all of these adult-level problems are thrust upon him and he has absolutely no idea how to even process them, much less solve them in a graceful fashion. He’s very much still a work-in-progress, and he tries his hardest not to step on any toes or hurt anyone, but there comes a moment in life where every person hurts someone else… and sadly, today’s going to be the day that he lets someone down—and what’s worse is that he really cares for this individual and never wants to see them upset.

They’ve spent so much time together and she’s been a rock for him throughout his many ups and downs as a trainee in this dog-eat-dog industry, and he’s grown to really love and appreciate her… just not in the way that he’s expected to.

All of this started when his brother raised a question to him regarding his sexuality. While his family has been supportive of his decision to come out to them and live his truth, one of his siblings asked how he knew if he was gay if he’d never tried to date girls before… and that caused a lot of confusion. So, in an attempt to figure things out, he asked Suwei to be his girlfriend after the two got to know one another more, and the last few months of have been great… but he now knows for sure that his orientation is confirmed to be homosexual, and he thinks it’s best she knows. So, when he receives a text message from her, he takes a deep breath; nerves causing his stomach to turn as he types out his response.

And now he waits… and tries work up the courage to be completely candid with her.

suwei is still very much a child. at just 20 years old she still felt unable to handle everything real life had to throw at her. she isn’t ready to be an adult. she wishes sometimes that she was back in taiwan. but in truth she’s all alone in a sense. she has her friends. but sometimes all she wants is for her mother to wrap her arms around her and tell her it’ll be all right. or her dad to pat her on the back and tell her how proud he is of her. she doesn’t have that comfort anymore. she wasn’t ready to be an adult. but she knew that she couldn’t hide from it forever. no matter how much she ran she would never run fast enough. she was doing her best navigating her new normal. moving to seoul all those years ago was big step. she likes to think she did the best she could do. but she knew she still had a lot of growing to do.

when she met rioh things seemed to fall in place. they seemed to fit in a way that she’s never experience before. it was special. they’ve supported each other. he’s been her rock. and she knows she loves him. she just didn’t know that he could never reciprocate her feelings.

growing up suwei never questioned her sexuality. but recently she’s been left questioning her feelings. she’s always been attracted to males. that she’s never questioned. it was her attraction to females that she’s been questioning. she downer know when she started to question it. or why? it just sort of happened. it left her in a tizzy. she knows what it’s like to be at odds with something that should come so naturally. but for her she isn’t truly sure. and she doesn’t want to hurt anyone in the process. her mixed-up emotions should be her problem.

suwei never really knew what she wanted to be. when she was young the possibilities were endless. her parents let her believe that she could be anything she dreamed of. and maybe they believed that. growing up being an idol never even crossed her mind. she always had a love for music. and while she dreamed of becoming a performer she just never thought she’d live out those dreams in another country. but here she was three years after debut. doing something she wasn’t sure she’d be able to do.

her childhood friends were in taiwan. the friends she grew up with. some have moved around but none of them have moved to seoul. and her former group members were still in china. she still talked to them when ever she could. texts and video calls whenever her schedule allowed it. but her friend in seoul were all idols. there was no way around it. and she didn’t mind.

it seemed that suwei was apart of a small population when it came to loving her job. being an idol wasn’t a job for her. and while yes her days are long she loves seeing the joy she brings to her fans. she sometimes wondered why some idols stayed. even when given the chance to leave they stay. “it’s definitely not a chore. but resting, staying hydrated, and getting sleep is very important.” she paused for a second before moving on to the next question. “is there anything you have yer to achieve in your career that you want to?”

growing up it was never her dream to be an idol. music didn’t run in her blood. and studying in a traditional sense was never something that crossed her mind. and while yes it may be good for her to take some formal lessons considering her job choice she just doesn’t want to. she’s happy with her voice. it could definitely be improved. and she worked in it everyday with the trainees and coaches. with lucids busy schedule she doesn’t know where she’d fit it in.

suwei was like a magnet. drawn to people like a bee to honey. she couldn’t help it. it was a part of her. to be social was the most important thing in her life. and she tried to be as social as she could be with other idols. most of them her seniors in age and experience. most of her friends where her age. but there were some exceptions. most of these friendships resulting from being an idol.

“yes. loving what your doing is key. when your spending time with people you genuinely like being around it’s not a chore.” she smiles as she says this. for the most part she genuinely enjoyed being around the lucid members. they’re like a second family to her. “rest is just as important as work. i have to rest to be the best i can be.”

at first, duri didn’t actually have ambitions to be an idol. however, that was something that ultimately ended up changing once he saw a music show on television one day, and decided that he wanted to become an idol as well. so, his studying of music had gone towards that, and he decided he was ready once he did his mandatory military enlistment as a public servant. it seemed to work out really well and that sign to wait was really the right choice. 

duri still had a lot of friends from his school days that he kept in contact with. however, he probably couldn’t say that a lot of them were close friends because he didn’t get to see most of them all that much, besides for jinsol and hanui, whom he had been able to see a lot, surprisingly. most of his close friends were all idols and others that are in the industry, since it seemed that was the easiest way to make friends now.

“that’s very true! i’m really glad that i get to say that i feel like my job isn’t a chore of any kind. i really enjoy getting to do what i want,” he said, his smile widening a bit more. not many people shared the same sentiment that he had, he knew that, but he probably held enough of that for everyone. he nodded his head, “resting, a lot of water, and good meals is the best thing for yourself!”

it’s been a few months and she likes where they’re at. even with their different schedules they’re making things work. it was hard but totally worth it. she couldn’t say with certainty if it was love. but for now though it was what she wanted. maybe even what she needed. he was her support system during the long hours of practice and the endless cycle of prep and promote. he was good for her. and in turn she tried to be a pillar for him. she just hoped he could say the same about her.

she was walking out of the dance studio when she pulls out her phone. she pulls him up on her contacts and sends him a message.

suwei has never once studied vocals in the traditional sense. she was gifted with a good voice and made it by sheer luck. the trainers since then have done a good job helping her improve. so anyone with any vocal training she respected. she respects them because they’ve worked to get that respect. by default they are more knowledgeable than her. duri is older with more experience not only in life but in the industry. she sees him as more knowledgeable. she’s 21 and has only been in the industry for three years. she has a lot to learn and she’s willing to learn as she goes.

her friends varied widely in age. she never thought it’d be easy making friends with someone nearly a decade older then her. growing up she stuck close to her school friends. her parents weren’t big on letting her wander alone. but as an idols she’s around people twice her age seemingly everyday. and with her outgoing personality it wasn’t hard for her to make friends with just about anyone. she liked sticking with people similar to her. and it seemed duri was like her in a lot of ways. despite her fear of having nothing in common they’ve made it work. and their friendship has only grown since they first met.

“i’m still left in awe sometimes that lucid debuted three years ago. our anniversary a couple of months ago made that surreal. time really does fly by. especially when your enjoying what you’re doing. but on the other hand when she really thought about it three years didn’t seem like a long time. time is a condstricy she feels she never truly understand. i feel hard work is alway important. but i feel allowing yourself to rest is just as important. you can’t push yourself too hard. you got remember to rest.”

duri had been gifted with an incredible voice himself, then he decided to go to vocal classes to really be able to keep up with his voice. he wanted to learn how to take care of it, how to not ruin it, and how to do so many things with it. he continued to go for years to vocal classes to study the art of vocals. not to mention, to this day, he’s still meeting with vocal trainers to make sure he’s still doing great and his voice is in tip-top shape. it’s work that duri really, really enjoys, to say the least. 

friends somehow came easy to him. he liked having people around him, friends to take care of. it was seemingly how he worked best. namely, it’s rather hard to become friends with people who are rather younger than you or rather older than you - but, somehow in someway, duri managed to have friends of those ages. suwei was one of those people, being a decade younger than he is. but, duri to having a common personality and both being out-going, they’ve managed to become friends. it was rather cool, to say the least. 

he nodded his head, “it’s all about having fun, right?” he asked, giggling softly. it had felt like just yesterday that duri debuted as a member of knight. but now, they were super close to being in the industry for ten years. it was almost odd to think about, but it was something that had managed to fly right past him in a way. he wondered what awaited after ten years as a group. he nodded his head, “work hard, but rest incredibly as well. it’s not good to push yourself really hard.”

suwei lives to be surrounded by people. crowded places are where she thrives. which means she did a good job at choosing an occupation. as an idol it was hard for her to ever truly be alone. that is unless you lived in your own apartment. which she did not, so she was always surrounded by her members, staff, and other idols. the shopping mall wasnt a problem for her. “okay i will. but you have to let me buy something for you too.” as much as she loved receiving gifts she also likes giving. “it is different, but you should always expect the unexpected with the companies.”

“you’re a very busy woman. it’s hard to find time to shop when your so busy.” suwei despite her distaste for shopping enjoyed browsing the store shelves to find a gift. she liked being able to see everything in person. and it was during this browsing that she found some of her best gifts. the gift that she just couldn’t look away from. online shopping would never compare. “yeah.” she say following the other women toward the store.

“i guess i’m full of surprises.” she says with a playful smile. she loved collecting small trinkets from those she loved. she didn’t usually buy them for herself but they made wonderful gifts. especially when came back from a trip. she looked forward trying to see if a shop caught her eye. really any store would do. “it’s fine if they don’t. i can always order it online. and i don’t really wear pants, so i think i’ll pass on the floral print.”

Jiah is glad that, despite being the first time in a long time that she gets to be around this many people, she’s not completely unused to the crowd. Being always busy, with staff and production teams always helped, though the environments are different. “Well, let me know if something catches your eye? I’ll buy you a little something since we’re already here anyway. And also, to remember this time that we’re working together on a project. I must say I never expected our companies to do something like this,” she admits with a shrug.

“I think most of my gift shopping was online in the most recent years, so this is quite nice, being out and looking for things,” Jiah comments distractedly as one shop catches her attention, and she points at it when she turns to look at Suwei. “This one looks like it has what I’m looking for. Let’s go.”

sweet, sweet summer child. she’d learn soon enough, there wasn’t a reason to force the point on her. “that’s the goal, there are somethings i do enjoy spending my idol time on. i could spend hours with fans.” the only thing she wanted was for it to be in person. 

this vr thing, it was just a bit uncomfortable. which meant she didn’t want to do it at all. and she’d have fun alright, giving everyone a mental middle finger throughout the shoot. “do you have any schedules after this? something fun to look forward too?” that helped her push through at times. 

at the moment suwei was blissfully unaware of the realities of being an idol. she was happy with her career. proud of how far lucid has come. and people could bad mouth the industry all they want and she’d simply ignore them. agree to disagree. “i love interacting with fans. meeting them is always better.”

she was enjoying the shoot but she could accept that some people don’t. there was no point in trying to change her mind. “no.” lucid wasn’t do much that month besides preparing for a comeback. and honestly if they weren’t promoting they were preparing a another comeback. “what about you? do you have something to do after this?”
