The Star Wars Fic Reading Club will be on indefinite hiatus until I can assemble a proper team to manage blog updates. The invitation to join the mod crew still stands. I encourage this blog's followers to refer parties interested in joining the SWFRC project. Once I am confident in this blog's ability to post consistent and timely updates, we will resume the project as before. Thank you so much for reading with us. We hope to read with you again soon.

Mod K here. The Star Wars Fic Reading Club will be postponing the current schedule and taking a one-month hiatus. This is to allow us time to find additional moderators so that updates will be more consistent. I really love this project and want to keep it going, but as it stands right now, it's not something I can do by myself. Thank you to everyone who has followed this blog and engaged with the wonderful authors whose fics we've featured here. We hope to be able to continue this project in the near future. If you or anyone you know would be interested in assisting the upkeep of this blog, please reach out!

How much research was involved in Countersigns?
Hi again! Sorry to be late in replying to this. I had started a reply, but it got eaten somehow and I had to start over.
There was at least some research involved, mostly on in-universe lore. First, there was the matter of finding a Star Wars world that would be likely to throw a fancy masquerade ball, and since that felt like a royal court sort of thing, I looked into worlds that had royal courts and eventually settled on Eiattu, which I remembered being the setting of the Rogue Squadron comic The Warrior Princess back in the day. (Which of course I reread, and I highly recommend it if you can find it!)
Then, because the theme of the ball was sports and games, I had to look into sports and games in the SW universe in order to come up with some of the other costumes. That was easy and fun to do, thanks to the relevant Wookieepedia list page, and that’s how I came up with, for example, the one noblewoman and her family dressing as a Theed quoits set (I hadn’t previously known about that game).
So while this wasn’t the most research-intensive story I’ve written by any means, it definitely involved some, and the research it did involve was the fun rather than the depressing or boring kind! 🙂

Due to lack of submissions, we will not be holding a Followers' Choice poll for the month of July. We would like to thank one submitter, to be announced later, for submitting two oneshots which will be part of the reading schedule for July. As these oneshots are part of an episodic series, we will not hold a poll to determine which fic will be read first. The other fic on our reading schedule, a multichapter fic, will be announced Saturday. This fic was chosen second in the June Followers' Choice poll.
We are still looking for moderators! DM @jedi-valjean to inquire about the position.

douse the flames, Ch. 4-5
by bellybeansss (@bellybeansss)
“So, there’s a high possibility that there is at least one time-traveling offspring of Anakin Skywalker roaming the galaxy right now."
“That was my conclusion, yes.”
“Force help us all.”
Luke Skywalker and a few members of his new Jedi Order are sent back in time twenty-six years to the height of The Clone Wars.
This story was submitted by @dream-beyond-the-fantasy!
Recommender's notes: It's a fantastic time travel fix-it fic that centers on the Skywalker family and Obi-Wan, which utilizes Legends and Disney Canon material.
Read along with us as we discuss this fic and tag your posts with #sw fic reading club so we can reblog them here!

Did Jyn and Cassian's costumes in Countersigns have any significance?
Hi and thanks so much for asking! 🙂 There isn’t really any deeper significance behind their costumes at the ball (Jyn as the Queen of Air and Darkness sabacc card, Cassian as a racing fathier) other than that they fit the “games and sports” theme of the ball (which I chose just because it seemed like an easy theme for which to come up with fun costumes). That, and it was an excuse to put Jyn in a glamorous, flashy outfit of the sort she probably doesn’t get to wear often, and to give Cassian the challenge of carrying out a (mostly) serious mission while wearing something goofy.
Hope that answers your question, and thanks again for the ask! 🙂

Just finished the first three chapters of douse the flames and I love it so far! What made you decide to have those specific characters travel back in time?
Hello! So glad you're enjoying the fic. Thanks for reaching out!
Without giving any spoilers past chapter 3 or the tags, I specifically chose New Order Jedi that either combine Legends and Canon or have some significance to Luke or Anakin's redemption, since the story is meant to circulate around them.
I chose Kyp because he has a really interesting story that perfectly embodies Luke's kindness and ability to redeem others. He's from Star Wars Legends and I knew I wanted to include him as a representative of Luke's new order and as a mirror of Anakin.
I chose Ezra partly because I wanted a canon character, and partly because I wanted to once again showcase the kind of growth Jedi under the New Order receive. If you haven't noticed, I've tried to keep certain qualities that make Ezra's character the same, but he acts older and knows when to back off now. I also think he just goes together really well with Kyp, the two both having a knack for being a bit hotheaded although Kyp is the more serious version.
Mara, Leia, and Luke I think are all pretty self-explanatory, but I also want to point out that I didn't include Mara simply because I'm a Skyjade shipper--I'm actually more mildly one--I wanted to include her for many of the same reasons I wanted Kyp and Ezra: the growth and wisdom her story and experiences with Luke have given her. She's also a badass and totally underrated, so we love that.
Thanks again for the ask, hope this answered your questions!
