Preachers Daughter; I feel???

i am SHOOK. I know I'm way behind on this but preachers daughter just literally shook me to MY CORE. The direct and indirect writing in this album going so disgustingly into religious trauma and seeking out a relationship and wholeness with not only a god you've reached your whole life for, but a wanting for a deep intimate relationship with people either in your family or people in the church who appear to have this oneness with god. Throughout the whole album she is practically SCREAMING for help, torn between her own image and these religious expectations from the people around her. Just wow. This album painted such a beautiful but guttural story, but also related so heavily with those who have resonated in religious traumas most of their lives. As someone who was cried and begged for help and struggled with my religion and identity, two things that so violently clash together in the eyes of this religion and the followers who have belittled me and battered me down about this, this album both healed and tore a part of me i didn't know i needed.

Thank you so much to Matthew Tomasi for his drums on Vacillator (and the boom on Amber Waves), Angel Diaz for the lapsteel and baritone guitar on Punish that makes my world go round, the upright bass on Onanist, and that lapsteel and e-piano also on Amber Waves, Madeline Johnston for her heavenly metal on Amber Waves (a track she served as an intense inspiration for), and Bryan De Leon for his acoustic stylings on Etienne. Y’all make my world go round.

I’d also like to think the natural drone music that exists everywhere in this world, in transformer boxes and powerlines on the side of the highway, in the radio static of an empty AM frequency, in the fan of my computer as my Ableton project files overloaded the CPU, and in the distant roar of the interstate on the other side of my favorite field. I love you, sound, you have always been there for me.
