Week 11: Great Firewall of China
Firstly, lets talk about social media in China where it does not have apps like other countries as an example Facebook is not used in China but then instead, another app in China was created as a substitute for users there as an example of Instagram which is called Sina’s Weibo which is the closest in  some key ways. Moreover, through this app also the people in China they treat it as ‘China’s Twitter but the which is much more functional than the standard Twitter, in the concept of making this app equivalent to Facebook instead.
Tumblr media
However, there are more apps made by American company such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and more because of the firewall made by China to block the unmade apps in China because of certain circumstances which are can’t be avoided. Why this happens is because China is a developed country where there are policies that have been made by the country (Alexa, 2019). Besides that, the censorship in China through the “Great Firewall” web filter because of the users are made to use applications that are Chinese at the same time not knowing what is happening in other country’s updates especially now knowing how to actually communicate in English to grow. In accommodating to 1.35 billion of people in China where the apps developed in China is used by all social media users to communicate with each other especially in business where WeChat is important for business users where there are over 1 billion monthly active users (DeGennaro, 2019).
Tumblr media
In the recent happening where U.S Companies begins to cut off China which made China create the firewall app to block apps from the U.S because of the decision said by Trump himself were to also block of accepting products and services from China. Moreover, since Google is from the U.S where they started to restrict the future updates of its Android operating software. Some other manufacturers in the U.S also suspending dealings with the Chinese firm (Whalen, 2019)
Tumblr media
On the other hand, VPNs in China is also banned because it might hard the academics, software developer and foreign business dealing between China. Although researchers are lack of adequate access to overseas journals at the same time communication between universities in China and other universities in other countries to gain access to information to be thought in the university (Haas, 2017). In banning VPN, which is to save censorship in China especially during a high-level government meeting in Beijing.
Tumblr media
To finish off, this can be seen that China is a developed country that can make the people follow its footstep although not seeing the world happening outside but then being able to be a fast-developing country because of being itself as for their GDP was $7,594 in 2014.

Drugs, tobacco and alcohol are always associated with addiction. Do social games fit into that category?
Nowadays addiction towards video games is common towards teenagers and early adult age was noticed by the World Health Organization (WHO) that game addicts are almost equivalent to drug addicts (Feltman, 2018). This happens when the habit of a person happens to be always wanted to enjoy the fun of playing games wherein a day it is a must to play video games which shows it is some kind of mental health condition because of being an addict in video games (Feltman, 2018). Why who is a concern about gaming addiction because there are many cases where people died because of playing video games as an example which happened in South Korea where the two couples were so into gaming which mad them losing a child due to malnutrition of not taking care of their child instead of busy playing games which also, affect the reality of their duty taking care of the child which resulted to death (Achieng, 2017). Besides that, there are games that can make a person be violent in the reality side where it happened in Europe where the two brother made their own kind of Grand Theft Auto where the policeman was killed because of being into the game so much which feels that you can do it at the same time no bothering that life in the game is not the same as real life (Achieng,2017).
Tumblr media
However, they are positivity in gaming but just that not until the stage where it affects everything as mentioned above where you may still play the game but then there is a limit of someone or something to be attained to. Leaving in this world there are responsibilities to be taken care of rather than consuming time by just sitting in front of the video games for hours just because it is fun and there is no stress to it, but on the other hand actually if affects the health of the individual. Moreover, there a lot of benefits of gaming such as to the society, making friends and other benefits to it where always remember that you have a limit to something which might cause the bad side to appear. The culture of gaming should be decent instead of violence where should not happen where gaming culture should have grown and developed in the future. Gaming culture nowadays is not a perfect world because of how the public perceive playing the game is and should be treated by the responsible society which can help those who needs help (Anderton, K 2018).
Tumblr media
Besides that, according to the Qutee’s research made where the benefits of gaming are judge as a whole because of the population of the society in every country increase by day and over 40% said that gaming improves emotional well-being (Anderton, K 2018). Moreover, the popularity of video games in increasing which is used to entertain kids nowadays so that they can satisfy their curiosities in return which is good for kids and not an enemy for them. This also can increase the brain activity of the children and enhance the knowledge of wanting to learn something new every day although it is no academically thought but through something that is fun (Willis, J 2011).

What does it mean to be a fan and where does this Fandom come from?
As can be seen, nowadays everyone must be a fan of something regardless if its in sport, anime, movies, musicians and so on. Which also it is affected by the things that are seen on the internet or indulged in daily life. Taking a example of a marvels fan were people who were brought up watching these movies continuously as for now the recently made movie of Avengers: End Game where it was produced after 10 years of movie production which are almost all the heroes in the movie are connected to each other where of the parts of the movie connected as for example, Iron man has a short scene in Spiderman until the ending of endgame.
Tumblr media
As for now since all the heroes are connected to each other which build a fanbase of sites for users to post the expectation of what is MCU is producing and on the internet, which is where the information comes from for fans to indulged in to satisfy their satisfaction in return to gain income of producing the next movie as a business. Besides that, since everyone is a fan of something where it also created the word “Fandom” which also changed the internet how it is today. As an example, fandoms who are the ones that are a fan of something till the stage where in their own home must have the collectibles of the movie that they are a fan of.
Tumblr media
Moreover, these fans have created their own fan page website to discuss or exchange information regarding about MCU production of a movie or even collectibles which can be placed wherever they want. They also discussed the comics of the movie produced and their imagination suggested in the website let’s say what if the Avenger’s team were not who they are today and teamed with other heroes as an example.
Tumblr media
On the other hand, after fandom, was created and some of the society can accept how these fandoms interact wherever they are especially online page which created a scene where these fandoms are weird to others instead of being a normal citizen. When there are good things happening which also the bad things will happen together so nowadays there are controversial part saying that fandoms are being toxic to the community which is good in the first place and now bad to society. These happens because of the fandom arguing against each other as an example of the old fandom movies such as ‘USS Callister’, where the fandoms have been watching these series for a long time already but then it happened in the fan culture which it became toxic to the society.

• Fake news nowadays crowds the internet with the readers to believe it or not? Can it effect the political and social benefitting the communities?
A fake news is something that is read online or on paper which is high the possibility made online for reader to read and believe. As an example of fake news which are mostly made in news, stories or hoaxes created deliberately misinforming or deceive readers. With this made up stories usually readers may be influenced by the topics made and being deceived by the creator of the news itself especially organizations that has its reputation good for the communities as an example of fake news especially on Twitter with the hashtags made by people and followed by the community which thinks it is true but as research by people says otherwise. It is also having to be known by the communities where stories that have some truth but aren’t 100 percent accurate.
Tumblr media
Fake news can also affect the communities by taking and example like the latest fake news made towards the government especially on Facebook nowadays where fake news is easily shard and created especially in the U.S which threatens the democracy body at the same time corrupts the self-dealing governments (Hollyer, RJ, Rosedorff, PB & Vreelan, RJ 2019) Moreover, this may also change the perception of the voters which is the health of the economy by believing in the fake news which is not officially made by the government themselves which can cause havoc by the communities towards the government.
Tumblr media
A statement made by the Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in helping the government of being threatened by the fake news it is made for the government regulations of content on the Internet in several areas, including “election integrity.” At the same time, it is also important for the community to trust and research or ask around the information which is it true or fake to avoid misunderstanding with each other in future the same time rotate the perception of readers towards the news made which is a fake before believing the news itself.
Tumblr media
Moreover, in Bangladesh where transparency rose in the late 1980s but fluctuated with a never reaching levels of never ending transparency issued with the democratic issues made on the internet at the same time change the story of the right message that is suppose to be out for the communities to read and believes.

Does Social Media and Governance Works?
Firstly, is to save money for the government as their benefit in return. A traditional outreach is costly because of the materials is needed to be printed out and the workforce needed to distribute the flyers to the public although the government has the budget for it but then they still prefer to used what us the society is on these days to gain their attention on what the government is doing for them which is either to develop a certain part of the country itself or new rules and regulation to manage the public for themselves. In fact, as an example the Unites States roughly spend almost $1.5 Billion per year on public relations and advertising alone.
Tumblr media
Secondly, is crisis communication where the social media has transformed the government in communicating with the public because of the users are mostly of social is used by the public to gain news for their knowledge. As an example of why devastating California which decimated more than 150,000 acres of land in November 2018. As destroyed by the inferno was 14,000 homes which it was costly to the government to build back up the parts that are destroyed at the same time governments uses social media to inform or spread what they will do in return to the public. With the social is one of the benefits for the government to inform the public such as promoting evacuation protocols to help those that are impacted by the inferno itself at the same time being able to connect to the civilians with their emergency relief resources. Moreover, being able to provide up to date schedule of evacuating the residents that are affected.
Tumblr media
Thirdly, is citizen engagement being also important for the government to approach them to know how happy they are with the governments' action towards them at the same this will also result to double engagement such as:
1.     Able to build trust. Through social media is one of the opportunities for the government to be transparent with them and through opening up to the public which will also help to gain the public’s trust.
2.     The brand is humanized. Often people forget there are actually people behind the government agencies so social media with the given opportunity to engage the public in return.
Tumblr media
As an example, where the video posted on the National Park Service’s Instagram account although it is 30 seconds long still the audiences take the opportunity to watch at the video with over 25,000 views made on the page (Tran, T 2019)

What is digital activism?
0Digital activism may also know as cyberactivism which a form of activism who use the internet to initiate their step to move something from another place to another without any trace of their movement. In the early 1980’s to the modern “smart mobs” and blogs used by these people to approach the digital network as a channel for action. Moreover, now as the people nowadays knows that a World Wide Web is used for many possibilities as mention in the topic this week is Digital Activism which consists of such as gaming, protest, delivering some thing good to the publics, politics, banking and so on. So, the digital activism has their pros and cons to which are the benefits as example social media:
·       Spreading awareness about ta cause or event
·       Allowing students to engage and participated in school activities,
·       Networking
·       Fundraising
Which are mentioned above shows that it should be good for ages young or elderly which are able to use social media to contact their family members which are the ones that is easily scammed or hacked by the hackers especially the teenagers who uses the internet with caution and don’t simply click on any links or website to avoid longer causes.
Tumblr media
Next, is the pros of digital activism:
·       Lack of privacy
·       Unreliable information is often shared
·       Likes or Hashtags do not result in change
·       Systematic issues also arise from hashtags
This is something which might cause hackers to invade someone’s account to gain access to their credit cards or bank account to steal their cash or private information to gain on their own profit in return. As and example of digital activism is campaigns for food causes which deserve the right implementation to give a stronger voice to the subject of campaigning.
Tumblr media
Activists use social media in future:
How activist used social media in the where there good and bad where we are going to talk about the bad part to make people being aware of the current situation that is happening in the social media psychological perspective research shows that individual’s desire or motivation to protest within he community to show that who is who and what is what which is like to show that there is someone in the net trying to voice out their opinions which is not noticed by the community or other bigger bodies to take action. Furthermore, liberals were also found that not expressing anger one the net or even ideological concerns. Ideological concerns is more like ideal ethical set that is built through beliefs and value which is hold in a group of other than purely epistemic reasons and terms at the same time describing the idea based on political theory and policy.

Social Media and Politics
Nowadays politics fly like the speed of light because of social media that spread the news regardless it is true or fake. In the media age which it is an opportunity to spread the concern towards the public promising their promises at the same time helping those who needs help. Moreover, since media is one of the major factors that news spread because of people wants to know what is happening in the political world. The use of social media such as twitter, Facebook and YouTube has dramatically changed the ways of campaign such as example the previous General Election 14 in Malaysia where the previous prime minister’s twitter has more followers than the current prime minister where take into aspects of political engagement is where the voters control who they prefer to vote as a right direction for the future. However, it also depends on what happen in the pass that made it to be like how it is supposed to be as for the previous prime minister’s scandal of 2.6 Billion 1MDB which is not settle till today together with other negative rumours following together. Social media has been one of the ways to contact to directly with the voters with their promises towards the voters but then as for me as a voter sees is it true and does the person voted keep their promises or not is another story to believe or not. During this time Pakatan Harapan and Barisan was battling each other till the end of the line through the counting of voters result as all wanting to know the result which also the live made on TV.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Besides that, social media has been hot with hashtags about political campaign as an example also Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton general election in the United States where the campaign was drastically used on twitter with the mems and pictures made to reflect the election campaign. As said by Trump himself ‘I like it because I can get also my point of view out there, and my point is very important to a lot of people that are looking at me (Murse T, 2019). Moreover, campaign goes viral by allowing the minded voters and activists to easily share news and information such as campaign events with each other through the sharing function provided by the social media itself as easy as just pressing the button on the social media.
Tumblr media
However, social media has been used in providing the news that they want to know whether it is true or false which falls to the judgement made by the voters to trust who is right or wrong and who is true on their promises and which is not. Money during political campaign is not a problem because while doing campaign that the money or receiving and spending transactions is vice versa. In other words, a campaign may find one message appropriate for voters between 30 years old will not be as effective with over 60 years old.
Tumblr media
Campaigns can cause controversial because what ever happen at that time is critical with whatever happen between political body with how the problems over come and promises made which can happen good for voters and for the politicians them selves which result to a win-win situation and every one is happy about the decision made. Feedback from the people is not wise choice because of the wants and need by the politicians themselves because of not accepting good feedback where at that time feelings might affect with whatever is happening.
POLITICS AND GOVERNANCE
Governance and politics are essential because it is an exercise to control both sides of activities such as institutions, power, order and the ideal justice as an example rules and regulations made for to control the politicians as for the do’s and don’ts because of the power that they have compared to a normal citizen. The power exercised by the participating sectors of the society is always for the common good, as it is essential for demanding respect and cooperation from the citizens and the state. As such, a great deal about governance is the proper and effective utilization of resources. Good governance is understood through its eight indicators or characteristics: (1) Participatory; (2) Rule of Law; (3) Effective and Efficient; (4) Transparent; (5) Responsive; (6) Equitable and Inclusive; (7) Consensus Oriented; and (8) Accountability. They are inextricably related to each other.
It must also be emphasized that good governance and development should not be based exclusively on economic growth. Through global persuasion, good governance and development signify a broader spectrum of things, such as protection of human rights, equitable distribution of wealth, enhancement of individual capabilities and creation of an enabling environment to foster participation and growth of human potentials.
Moreover, rules and regulations are important to maintain both sides of authority because if a country has no rules which might cause a havoc which might leads to destruction of both sides and might cause a big misunderstanding between each other. On the other hand, decision made is the most important so that order is maintained within the country itself to get each other aspects in to one majority chosen.
We're just talking about common sense regulation here.
Nobody needs an hour long news show.
Some reasonable legislation might be :
-Limiting interview rounds by restricting the hours they can broadcast.
-No high capacity video clips.
-Registration of hand mics.
-Full background checks and regular mental health check-ups.

Is Tumblr a blog or social media?
Tumblr is where it all begins.
Is Tumblr a Blog or Social Networking Site?
The creator of Tumblr, which is by David Karp in the year 2007 and according to Susan Gunelius herself the used of Tumblr which is a hybrid blogging and microblogging tool for people to publish or post on their dashboards. This also enables you to post images, videos which can be post longer than a twitter account itself. Besides that, through Tumblr itself which is fun because of the services provided while blogging without any restriction of limitation the post itself to satisfied users around the world.
Tumblr media
According to Elise Moreau (2019), that Tumblr is a bit of both because why, Tumblr provides blogging services and after blogging customizing of page is also included in Tumblr, post a wide range of contents such as text, videos, gif and more. Tumblr provides services such as customising the blog itself to make the page interesting to be seen by users especially ladies who wants their page to be fancy for users to read or attract other users to indulge whatever is written on their page. Moreover, another comparison for Tumblr is Facebook where some of the things that can be done on Tumblr cannot be done on Facebook which shows this that there is setback here. (Murmson, n.d) Which also falls under the communities who differs the changing of social media especially from twitter to Tumblr because of the things can be done on sites respectively.
Tumblr media
Besides that, what made Tumblr interesting again it is because the blogs made by user to read and explore more from bloggers all around the world and follow their account for more updates to be read on my leisure time. Since the evolution of Tumblr and it can be seen that most of the users are active posting their thoughts on current happening in the world as an example the recent blow-up in the movies about the Avengers Endgame which it is coming out soon there are a lot of leakages and posting about this hot topic and through social media is where users tend to know the whereabouts of the hot trending topics. This part is more under communities of movie story line which build a community there exchanging writing and opinion between each other.
Tumblr media
Since people nowadays like to post long status on their blogs so since Tumblr is evolving where posting of topics are not limited as for some websites such as twitter which has been a rivalry seen in the social media. From my experience using social media itself sees the setback between these 3 social medias and it depends also on the user on how they used it for their personal posting there are pros and cons in using the services on every social media itself which shows that are we ready to accept of using it or not. Every post made on Tumblr itself sometimes there are people quoting on our post which made the people open their eyes in posting on the internet.
More to add, we sometimes we have to enjoy the little things that is made for us in life for future use.
“Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.” -Mark Twain

Game On!
Ass. 1b. Week 10.  Social Gaming: Playing the Crowd.
Tumblr media
Social gaming. What is it? Social gaming is how we describe games that are predominantly made for playing on social media sites (O’Neil 2008). Though that may be the case, it would become clear that it has long since outgrown that description. Massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG) have grown to the point that within themselves they have created a social network or social group. People do not just play the game, they team up, make plans, and execute them as if they were in the real world. Sure, going alone is an option, but enduring success is unlikely (Williams 2016 p.665).
youtube
Understanding the overall picture of the gaming world takes a lot more attention than a surface glance. When we mention online gaming, people automatically seem to think of violence or gambling. However, there are games out there that carry a far more positive aspect. Yes, games like Fortnite, War Thunder, Call of duty, and World of WarCraft call us to arms, to kill or be killed. However, it appears the hype of negative media forget the likes of Farmville, Words with Friends, and Pop Quiz entirely. All of these are social, and all stimulate our capacity to learn. Add Pokémon Go, that got people of their seats and out into the streets, and the benefits of online games become apparent.
Tumblr media
Okay, so we can justify the personal social side of gaming, but what about the issues? Like anything that involves human beings, there is always an issue. For example, online games usually involve an in-game currency. Fortnite had a case where it was accused of being used to launder money (Gershgorn 2019). Likewise, Eve Online has had a couple of scandals that saw players lose $300,000 worth of purchases over a simple in-game deal that went wrong (Thornhill 2014). Eve also encountered an issue when one player from the in-game council (the Council of Stellar Management), failed to step out of his game role and into reality during an online video post. The player, known as ‘The Mittani’, and for his violent and ruthless actions, made statements and threats that are not acceptable in the real world (De Zwart & Humphreys 2014 p.93). While the Mittani apologised, the damage was already done.
