it's genuinely bullshit that you should be required to own a mobile phone for participation in literally any aspect of life

It's incredibly frustrating when I'm looking through Goodreads for new releases to read, or giveaways, or just looking up a title to see where I should be shelving it at the bookstore, and the only 'genre' listed for it is 'LGBTQ'.

That means nothing to me.

Is it a fantasy? Is it a romance? Is it a murder mystery? Is it a coming of age story? Is it nonfiction? Who fucking knows. Apparently the only thing that matters now is if a character is gay.

If you want to tag it as lgbtq in the description, or put it into a themed display/playlist, that's perfectly fine, whatever, but it should not ever be the genre, especially the ONLY genre, that a piece of media is listed under. That's unhelpful to everyone.

If anything, having that be your only listed genre is telling your audience that having representation is the media's only selling point. It's advertising 'it doesn't matter what it's about since it has lgbt characters' and that's a good sign that it's bad writing.
