Thanks for reaching out! Right now, while we do have some people still typing hard as we get close to the deadline, every assignment has people working on it! It's been a quiet year for pinch hits - we didn't have many compared to other years.

Is there a policy about getting assigned the same person two years in a row? Should we let you know or is it just a normal situation?

There's no policy, it's just a Thing That Happens sometimes. It's fairly normal, especially when two people request similar ships.

At this point, assignments are locked in for the year. If you'd like to make sure you match with someone else in future years, you're welcome to put in your offers box when you sign up (not the requests, the offers where only mods can see) that you'd rather not be paired with a particular person. We do our best to honor those requests, and you don't need a reason.

Sign Up Deadline - Extended

Hi All! Due to some mod life things, sign ups are going to be extended by an hour, with a new close time of 9:15 PST. If anyone thought they procrastinated too long and missed it, now's your chance! Get that sign up in!

I signed up for the exchange put it's my first one and I'm not sure I did my requests correctly. I made a different request for each ship (to be able to adjust my DNW and optional details for each), but I'm now wondering if I should have made a request per fandom and put all the ships in it (which is what I did for my offers). Should I edit it or is it okay?

(I tried looking through the rules and FAQ but it didn't really clear it up)

Hello! We're so excited to be your first exchange!! Welcome!

I'm going to answer this publicly because I suspect you are not the only person to have this question. Either way is absolutely fine. Doing it the way you did it lets you give specific examples for each one, doing it the other way lets you potentially request more ships! So if you have a whole bunch of ships you want, then it's better to bunch them so you can request more than 10 (10 is the maximum number of requests Ao3 let's us have), but if you don't want that many ships you can do it whichever way makes the most sense for you.

I'm glad you asked the question, please ask any more you have. It's tricky doing Ao3 based exchanges for the first time, it's a complicated system

What making it easy for us looks like is structuring it as so:

Nominations close at 11:59PM EST - a little less than seven hours from time of posting. Get any last-minute nominations in!

We'll begin cleaning up the tagset after this. Feel free to comment here (anon is on) with any errors you've noticed in the already approved tag. Or, you can join the Discord Server and put any comments in the tagset-cleanup channel.

Our discord also has nominations-swaps section if you've run out of space but have more delicious rarepairs you'd like to share, or if you're willing to use your unused spots to facilitate someone's else's dreams.

What if you don't want to join the exchange (because deadline reasons) but you still want to write for a given ship? Can you treat?

Yes! Treats are welcome, we have some pinch hits that come up (though those still have a deadline attached) and we also welcome gifts added to the exchange collection without an assigned recipient as long as the main pairing is rare.

Noms Updates and Info

Hi everyone!

Nominations have started and we've noticed that there have been a few noms that show up in the wrong fandoms. Some common issues are characters and properties that only exist in Disney Canon have been nominated in Any Star Wars Crossovers, and people using fandoms that are not a part of the new larger fandom categories we are using.

As a reminder, all ships should be nominated under the fandoms: • Star Wars Original Trilogy • Star Wars Prequel Trilogy • Star Wars Sequel Trilogy • Star Wars Disney Canon • Star Wars: Legends EU • Other Star Wars Universes • Any Star Wars Crossovers • Crossovers (Non-Star Wars)

At this time, any ships we find like this we are moving into the correct category. The way that we do that, these nominations may show up as rejected on your noms screen. You'll be able to find the ships in the categories above.

If you get the chance to edit your nominations yourself, please do so, this will save time for your mods, let you confirm your noms have been approved, and let everyone's noms happen faster.

Star Wars Rare Pairs Exchange is a gift exchange run on Ao3 for Star Wars relationships that have less than 250 works, in English, on Ao3. We welcome every corner of canon, and you can offer to give or receive fic, art, podfic, or vids.
