You're never gonna catch me saying stuff like, "Zenos had to die, in the end. He'd just hurt so many people. 😢 It had to happen. 😢"
Because I am one of those people who look at the long trail of blood behind the Warrior of Light, and their characterization moments in HW, where they pursue vengeance, in SB, where they're like, "I'll kill your god even if I don't have to," in the entire Dark Knight questline, and I go, "Yeah, nah, we both should be dead, then."
The Warrior of Light forges numerous relic weapons that use the blood of people to give it strength, when you think about it, but nope. It's ZENOS who's the only monster here.
Sure, Jan.

dark knight questline in ffxiv is the most mouth foaming side quest line to accompany main quest line ever. your first introduction is you find the corpse of some ‘heretic’ that was executed in trial of combat by temple knights before a crowd that cheered itself hoarse at the event of their death, and the in-game narration is like, is this the only fate that awaits YOU? in the end will you just bleed endlessly for the common person without any gratitude and then die alone and shunned by them? to be vexed by their fetch quests (i actually dont relate much to this part of the questline personally, but watch for the next part). and then after the culmination of that long lonely downwards spiral for the player character the game goes, youre not alone in this, and you didnt know this before, but the guy you found dead had a family – here they are; he died for them. i like to think this sections a story about sidurgu and rielle just as much as its one for you. no one forced you to take on the risk of trying to help or protect anybody: you did this all willingly, so dont blame them for that. role of a dark knight is to defend the helpless and deliver retribution to corrupt elite that abuse their power over them - you knew this part already. you can say its for some detached principle of justice or valor but at its heart the flame in the abyss that will keep you going through this darkness is love. don’t lose sight of that. and then, not just necessary compassion for your fellow person, but love for yourself, with all the weight of what you’ve done and the guilt of not being able to save everybody

Elmer may be king, but he'll never be able to match what he has.

Currency and Farming
While we're all farming FATES for Gerolt (again), it's helpful to remember how to track currency without opening the currency menu, especially to avoid over-capping.
The currency menu is usually a helpful keybind or console menu option away, but please note the little cogwheel icon in the upper right, marked in the image below with a yellow box and arrow.

Opening that menu we get the option to set cycled default currencies of our choice, up to 5 we would like to track.
In the below example, my first slot is for Gil, and my second has a drop down menu opened, here currently selecting Storm Seals.

I also want to draw attention to the instructions at the bottom of the submenu, in the below screenshot boxed in yellow:
The above currency will display on the HUD by default. Right-click on the currency icon to cycle through currencies in your rotation. The order in which they display can be changed via the arrows to the right of each rotation slot.

This means that the little currency tracker on your HUD, usually around your inventory and character pane HUD options, can be cycled to track various currencies without having to open the menu.
In this case in my screenshot here, I set it to show my Bicolor Gem totals while I farmed FATES in Yak'Tel:

If I want to check on my tomestones as well, I just rotate to see what my tomes are at. In this case, because I am using a mouse, I right-click on the icon for the currency (the gem itself) and get to my tomes:

So go forth, farm to your heart's content, but without accidentally over-capping cuz you're not keeping the currency menu open!

My fave thing abt the scions is how they yell at WoL when WoL sacrifices themself once (1) as if each and every single one of them hadn't sacrificed themselves several times before. 1 hour ago even!!

that post says it but I think it's extremely important to reiterate that the very first thing g'raha does is deceive and manipulate you and that was back in a fucking realm reborn. yeah it's jokes and it seems pointless at the time but holy fucking shit does that behavior stay relevant from the moment he re-enters the story to present day. like lmao
#G'raha Tia#yeah it was interesting replaying crystal tower with q'hara#and for the longest time thinking “aha they'd click like brothers”#and then going...eh I don't actually think g'raha's personality would endear him to the earnest q'hara

It’s been like two years since Carmine pointed out to me that people blatantly mischaracterization G’raha every day and the more I’ve grown to like him the more mad it makes me. I’m going to start getting mean about it. I will flat out say that if you are creating a G’raha Tia and his primary character trait is not sheer cunning you are doing it wrong. Reconsider. He has adorable nerd out moments, but they are NOT entirely WoL-centric and are vastly outweighed by the times he is sly, manipulative, scheming, and plotting, and the only reason he is not a villain is because he does all this to further the good of the populace rather than his own ends.

ffxiv fans’ ability to devour content that’s intended to be slowly worked on in months rather than days and then say it’s the developer’s fault they’re burnt out and bored never fails to astound me

A lot of my writing with Syngigeim and her awkwardness about her relationship with Mariko (aka guy who adores her and she just felt overwhelmed for the longest time about it) was aboslutely an expression of me being on the ace-spectrum, me being in a romantic relationship with a person who is very affectionate, (I'm calling you out hun!) and trying to sort those feelings out. Syngigeim gradually accepting those feelings is a bit of MSQ-motivated development, but also me looking at my wife one day and just being re-assured that "Yeah, yeah I do actually truely love and cherish her. It may not be heart-racing butterflies as they say love is, but it's love and care all the same."
I have a pride-themed WoLQoTD. :)
What does your character(s) gender/sexuality mean to you in the context of their stories and how you perceive them? Have they helped you come to terms with your own gender/sexuality, or let you explore a facet of it that you may not have done otherwise? Has your character's gender/sexuality changed over the course of their story or as a direct result of your own discoveries around your own identity?
#also evidently gender-detachment is an ace thing!?!#thanks lyn for pointing that out and clarifying this#on this first day of pride
