Update 6th/Apr/2024: I have unfortunately decided to shelf this idea for the time being. I started working on other things that allow me to explore more simple game development avenues and I really regre that I left this project to stagnate.
I'm not abandoning the game, I still plan to make it work as an experiment for making boss battles work and finding the right style and mechanics. When I get back to this I will make a version with no models and save that, then make the Korra and Asami models.
If Nickelodeon sends me a cease-and-desist, then I will simply remove the models and replace them with onces that fit with a different project, but the animations and code will remain almostt completely the same (hopefully)
I'll post about my other projects when I have some tangible updates. And for future reference, any update posts are tagged "#gameupdate" so you can easily filter out anything else I post.
I have been working on a short LOK boss battle fan game.
I would like to share my ideas on this game, both because I want to mark my progress, and because maybe some people will become interested.
Basic summary
The game is a twin stick shooter where you battle a single boss, Asami Sato. She can use her electo gloves to fire off a set of ranged attacks, as well as using a few electrified melee combos. (I feel like she didnt fight enough in the show, so I'm going to make her a force to be reckoned with)
In addition to having a large and complex moveset, Asami has immense vitality and hits like a Moose Lion. The game will be challenging, but I intend for it to be entirely fair and skill-based. You just need to be patient, pay attention, and adapt and you'll beat her.
How you fight
At the start of the game you get to pick an element to bend. You have a regular attack as well as an attack specialised for that element:
Air = Focussed jetstream + Use a blast of air behind you to body slam Asami (carries you a decent distance)
Water = Rapid fire icicles + Close range melee combo, creating splashes with each hit (low range but high damage)
Earth = Throw a large blast of sand + Bend a wave of lava in front of you (like a shotgun, more damage at lower range)
Fire = Throw fireballs at regular pace + Lightning bending (long windup, high damage)
In addition to attacks, you have 2 forms of defence. A dodge with invulnerbaility frames, and a parry that allows you to avoid damage from Asami's melee attacks and deal damage to her instead. You will also probably have a stamina bar to stop you from overusing attacks.
Difficulty modes
The game is intended to be difficult, but some people want to be eased into a massive challenge instead of being dropped in front of a wall. Therefore, the game will have 3 difficulty modes:
Easy: Asami has less health, less attack power, and some of her more difficult attacks have been removed or altered. Intended as a practice for the intended challenge
Normal: The intended challenge.
Hard: Asami has more attack power, more health, she has 1 or 2 new attacks, and one extra secret. Spoiler: Once Asami is beaten, Korra joins the battle for a second phase. Now you have to deal with Korra's bending AND Asami's electricity at the same time
Is it free?
Yes. Definitely. Absolutely. Not just because I'm a kind soul, but also because selling it would probably get me sued by Nick. If it's free, worst scenario I get a cease and desist which I can argue against saying the game is a parody and therefore, fair use.
Extra details
The game is being made in godot 3.3.4 and will be made available on gamejolt and itchio (for free. Please hold all applause until the very end). The music for the game will be a metal cover of the Agni Kai theme from ATLA because it's my favourite piece of music in the franchise. I will probably have to hire somebody to make the art for me since I'm awful at it (this isnt a bad thing, since this means I can make it look as good as possible)

Please dont hesitate to comment any. The game will be better if people tell me about things that seem like bad ideas before I've made the game.
Update: As I continue to watch One Piece, Nami continues to get more and more Sapphic with every episode. In the Zou arc, the first time we see her in 70+ episodes, she already has a girlfriend.
Honestly, this is the most autistic shit ive ever seen.
And i say that because i have ASD and I always have the compulsion to give people honest and thorough critiques (and compliments as well) on anything they make, even if its as innocuous as a meme.
Update 2nd/Aug/2023: The engine has changed to Godot 3.5.2 because it's a later version and the change over was unbelievably easy.
I am also not sure about the water melee combo being "high damage" because that does sound potentially exploitable. It'll all come down to testing at a later time.
